Service at this hotel is so lovely. Everyone is so accommodating and friendly. The hotel itself is beautiful. We discovered a church and library inside! Great location too - it’s about a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum. The cons aren’t too much of a big deal: WiFi connection is terrible. No kettle/teabags etc provided in the room. Shower water was occasionally temperamental. Tax charge of €6 per person per night - 2 of us stayed for 5 nights and had to pay €60 - apparently it’s a Rome thing and not a hotel thing.
Shouldn't be a 4 Star Hotel”
Given that this was rated as a 4 Star Hotel we were massively disappointed: On arrival at reception, everything seemed pleasant and professional (as you'd expect). The Lift was temperamental and appeared not to be able to cope with multiple stops. Even selecting a single destination took several attempts. We had 2 bedrooms - the sizes were OK, however there were initial problems. Faulty fridges and a broken TV remote. The rooms were outdated and in need of investment to meet 4 star expectations (and in some cases safety concerns too). The Bar isn't open from 2pm Sunday afternoon. Air Cooling / Heating controls weren't functional. Everytime someone showered or flushed a toilet it sounded like the downpipe was in the room. Excellent location. Friendly staff, however couldn't recommend it.
Is This Really A Four Star Hotel?”
Hotel is in severe need of maintenance. Initial room provided was a lower level than the room booked & paid for. Airconditioner in first room didn’t work and when moved to the correct room, airconditioner leaked and dripped onto floor. Staff were notified & advised airconditioner was fixed but it continued to leak for the remainder of our week stay. Sheets were not changed during our stay with no means of indicating to cleaning staff that they needed to be changed. No WiFi in room until last day after complaining each day. The bathroom light blew on day two and took a whole night & day to replace with us unable to see in bathroom without using a torch that we had. Crockery chipped in breakfast dining room. Toaster broken so no toast available for the whole week. Breakfast available till 10am but dishes not replenished after 9:30am.
Would not recommend to my worst enemy”
There was no hot water, apparently someone turned the central system off, & the front desk turned it back on & we have to wait “not sure how long but it’ll be back”. So the front desk offered us a room at a sister hotel, the Valle, a block away, so I had to walk over 11PM at night so I could have a hot shower and sleep. The air conditioning wasn’t working and front desk gave us a table fan instead. Mind you this is a 4 star rated hotel. In my personal opinion this hotel is old and tired, not maintained, apart from is claimed history, there’s nothing good about it except the location.
Exceeded expectations ”
A nearly perfect combination of superb location and the value. With only few exceptions, all major Rome sites are within 20-minute walking distance.. An official Taxi stand is right next to the hotel (it took us 10 Euros and 15 minute or so to get to Vatican). And so is a stop of the hop-in - hop-off buses. One night we got an unscheduled guided tour of the magnificent Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore just cross the street. Another night we took a 10 minute stroll to a 'The Barber of Seville' performance. If someone prefers a budget dinner, a mid-size supermarket is virtually next door; when/if someone prefers to eat/snack out, there are plenty of gelaterias, restaurants and pizzerias close by. Neighbourhood is clean, with streets full of people at 10pm. The hotel can be used as a base camp for trips outside of Rome: a walk to Termini is about 10 minutes. Before checking out, do not forget to visit the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele hosting a small colony of cats.. Etc and so on.
All in all we liked the Hotel and the facilities, but the breakfast wasn't even adequate for a Hotel with four stars!!! The variety of the food was very limited and it was based on sweet food, like croissants etc. If the hotel places people from all over the world, the breakfast has to fit an international level. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Excellent location & service”
Excellent location; Santa Maria church across the street is magnificent. All the Hop on hop off busses stop there. Metro and Central railway station one block away. Lots of restaurants and shops in walking distance. Hotel offers a good breakfast and the staff is extremely helpful. Will definitely return
Excellent location, helpful and friendly staff, walking distance Colosseum & Rome Termini”
Stayed for 2 nights in April with our 12 year old daughter. Hotel is in a great location, walking distance (with luggage) from Rome Termini. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. 10 mins walk to Colosseum and there are some great restaurants nearby too. Room was clean and spacious enough for 3 of us. Beautiful courtyard which we sat out in each evening after returning from dinner. Breakfast area quite compact and limited hot food available but enough variety to set us up til lunchtime. Hotel has some lovely sitting room/lounge areas too, worth exploring as we found there was a lot of history to the hotel. Great base for a lovely trip to Rome.
Old hotel, need renovation but the staffs are good”
I don't want to criticize but rather to give this hotel notes for improvement. 3 good things from this hotel: Staffs are helpful and friendly (especially Marco, Christopher/Christian, and the young lady in breakfast area), location is good and its history. If I were the owner or management, I would seek for funding to renovate. This hotel actually has beautiful relaxing rooms (it's like a big living, family room). Please get rid off old furniture smell, bathtub needs to be replaced when it has tainted, carpet need to be replaced, need re-paint, replace the closet, tv. Fridge can't look old and dirty, we didn't want to put bottles in there. Nothing wrong with your breakfast and the servers are friendly and helpful. If only it's not as old as it is ...
Good location and value for money”
Superior double is large but not particularly modern. As other reviews said the bathroom was in need of some repair - wrong bath plug, loose shower. Overall still good value for money based on location and breakfast with a friendly staff and a nice courtyard.
The Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi Hotel in Rome is located next to a nice square and quite close to the turistic centres. The staff is very nice. The big problem with the hotel are the facilities: The rooms are tiny. no desks in the rooms. The batherooms are very old and small, no gym, the dining room is small, the windows are old and the nise from the street during day and night is unbarable, the internet disconnects nonstop... The hotel is not cheap at all though. I would not go back. Just find another place.
Great stay at your hotel. ”
We would highly recommend this hotel. The history of the building itself is very interesting. The chapel inside, and the library area just beautiful. My sister and I and a girlfriend stayed in a triple room which was very spacious and even had a refrigerator. We walked from this hotel to all the major sights (except the Vatican) and then the next day walked to the train station and easily transferred to the cruise port. Perfect location. Thanks for a wonderful Rome experience!
Hotel in Rome”
I stayed here in October 2015. The Hotel staff were really helpful especially Marco. Th e room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. Clean towels were supplied every day. There was continental breakfast every day . The Hotel is near buses and Termini station. I would stay here again if I were in Rome.
Elegant Antique Hotel, good service hotel”
i love the environment and good and responsive service, very close to rome termini station, just 10mins walk. next to santa maria maggiore church. i believe this hotel was the home of a nobility / rich family, you can see those facilities and impressive interior design and layout.
Good hotel, but not really four-star quality”
A good hotel with a great location, good breakfast - at least by Mediterranean standards - and a friendly receptionist. However, the room was not really deserving of four stars. Pretty standard. My shower doors couldn't close, and it wasn't fixed, even though I informed the reception on the day of arrival. The people in the breakfast room were not too friendly. Nice garden with large tables, where I could sit and work.
Very bad hotel everything need maintenance and repair and the ”
The hotel is 3star
Nice hotel, very central ”
Good hotel. Breakfast was a little disappointing. Central to a lot of things
Comfertable bed. Good location. Luggage storage. No tea or coffee maker in the room although I booked a room with this facility. Poor breakfast..Shower stuck. Very small room.
True Italian style in a great position.”
The communal areas had wonderful relaxing Italian charm from another era. The rooms themselves although a little dated were adequate for weary tourists. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
Excellent option for quick stay in Rome”
Extremely helpful staff, quaint hotel, great location (although a bit of a walk to the Metro), good nearby parking, and excellent value for money.
