Nice quiet place to stay but bad matress”
Unfortunately terrible poor bed. I could feel every singel curled iron wire of the matress. Bring your own beach towel. No coffe at all just Nescafe in the restaurant. But the Staff 120% too friendly helpful!!!
Best beach in Thailand ”
We had a perfect stay at this property. The staff is super helpful and friendly, they picked us up at the pier and brought us back where when it was time to leave. The beach was cleaned by the staff daily and there are no corals in the water, so it’s a great place to swim. And there is hardly anyone at the beach with you.
A nice place near the beach”
Considering the price, i am quite happy I decided to stay here. Very good food ( love their tom yang!) and relaxing atmosphere. Staffs are super friendly and accommodating. Beach at sunset is quite beautiful. Only thing I would recommend they do is install a curtain or something in their bathroom as the window glass is transparent and window is facing the street.
Close to beach with value price”
I just back from Koh Mak. It's okay with the quality of accommodation but all the staff were great. great service and gave us a lot of info. The restaurant in the resort sell the same price with other small shop. Important if you come for beach, you will be disappointed.
Love my stay at Baan Koh Mak. The staff is incredibly friendly and nice and helpful. Location is great (sunseeeet!), the beachfront is clean and feels incredibly good! They rent scooters so going around is easy. Also did a boat tour through the hotel, that was fantastic. Food is really good too, and the rooms, well, they have a view on the sea, and they do the job really well!
Cheap and basic”
No fridge, no water kettle, coffee or tea in room. Old and tired chalet. Service could be better. This is the place for basic accommodation with good location ( 2 blocks away from jetty) and cheap price.
Good service mind, Good price and peaceful location”
good - staffs are good and really polite. the location is peaceful place. the Room is clean. no TV so you can enjoy your relaxing time. bad - the beach area is full of stone and the sand has some trashes.
Great place, great staff”
Incredibly friendly staff. Got picked up at the pier without them even knowing when we were going to arrive. Everything you need is within walking distance. It's right on the beach. Their motorbikes are in good shape and easy to drive. Would definitely recommend it!
Could be better”
I think the hotel could upgrade a bit by adding at least one or 2 furniture in the room which is empty. I like the bathroom. The food at the restaurant is quite random, sometimes good, sometimes so so. They did not clean the room over the 4 nights we stayed there. No regret but I think it could be better for that price.
nice cozy and love hotel”
It was nice staying there, the staffs are friendly and helpful. The food is also good. The room is very cute and cozy, also the main area and reception is open and right next to the beach. The staffs also friendly, and helpful.
Very chilled ,relaxing”
Amazing. The bungalow was modern in design & the decor was bright & cheerful. Bathroom was modern & just lovely. Staff couldn't do enough for you & so attentive. Great cocktail bar on the beach & restaurants & bars close by. We hired cycles & biked round the Island stopping at different places for refreshment & sightseeing. Had a great time.
Wonderful staff - disappointing beach”
The staff here were wonderful and I could not find fault with with their attentive service. Every request was met promptly and the food at the restaurant was great. Unfortunately the beach in front of the resort is littered with plastic. It just seems to be the way the weather and currents direct things. Each day in April brought a fresh load. The beaches on the opposite side of the island were fine. Apart from the plastics pollution, the water here is shallow and there are many submerged rocks, broken coral and spiky sea urchins. Sadly, this just a beach to look at. Definitely not one for getting wet. The bungalows have floor to ceiling windows on three sides so you may feel kind of exposed when you draw the curtains to see out. Scooters and bicycles are readily available so getting out and about is no problem. This area also has the greatest cluster of shops and services. The sand flies are a nuisance but there is no malaria on Koh Mak.
I didn't fancy the first room they put us in, mainly cause there was a insect nest on our hammock but the staff relocated us to a different room, and this was a larger room with all 3 top-to-bottom windowed walls, no additional cost for the room change! There's no tv or fridge in the room but that doesn't matter, the only time we're in the room is when we want to have a bit of a shut eye or just lay down, relax and gazing outside and view the beautiful beach scenery. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and will do their very best to make our stay memorable to us. Everything in this island close before 10.30pm. After that, things seem to be quiet around. I thought we would be having a goodnight sleep for our tomorrow's activities in Koh Mak.This is the down side of this hotel... the dogs are very noisy at night... it's really hard to sleep sometimes. I hope the staff have some ways to make the dogs not to wonder around near the rooms at night and bark so loud. All in all, still a nice place to stay. x
Located at beautiful Ao Kao beach...quiet and secluded, privacy is assured. Lived in beachfront bungalow, I was abounded in breezes. Cozy and comfy environment with friendly staff. Love the simplicity of the room especially the design of its toilet. The food is so so and think that the bbq seafood dinner is nothing to shout about. Alternatives - there are a row of restaurants behind Baan Koh Mak.
good food but very small room”
we went to Koh Mak with 2 year-old boy. Normally, double bed is ok for our family. But the bed here is very small so we need extra bed which highly surcharged 400/day. The bathroom is too small and not in good condition. The beach is ok for walking not swimming. However, they served us very good food and staff is friendly.
Great bungalows, perfect location on the beach”
after staying in cheap fan bungalows with open bathrooms for a while we decided to treat ourselves to some air conditioning - this was a splurge for us. we arrived at baan koh mak to find they had not received our reservation from agoda (this seems to be an agoda error?). they had no rooms available and went out of the way to help us find another room for the night - making phone calls and carrying my backpack around to check out a few places nearby. we were planning to stay a few extra days anyway so this was no bother. we ended up almost next door at monkey island (also great) for two nights and came back to baan after. the food was a little expensive, but the beach front location was certain worth it for a few meals - we tried all the restaurants nearby (bbq at the food garden and the art hut were favorites). everyone was very friendly - one of the ladies noticed i wasn't feeling well, offered headache medicine, and remembered the next morning to ask if i felt better. the bungalows are enclosed and concrete, modern feeling, thoughtfully designed, and nicely placed so that each feels a bit private. we stayed an extra night, and would have stayed much longer if it weren't for our budget - we paid baht per night. nice beach, hammock or swing on each porch, quiet and very mellow. a few things could use improvement: the sheet did not fit the bed and the bathroom could have been cleaner.
Top Spot on the beach & very friendly staff”
We walked past & liked the aspect on bungalows on beachfront with restaurant at shoreline. Was low season so place was empty and staff busy cleaning, painting & getting resort ready but were very friendly & showed us rooms. We booked online with agoda and the 5 of us ended up staying seven nights as it was so relaxing. Close to good restaurant Kon Gin Sen who serve excellent food and are very friendly. Weather was good most days for low season but best part was no other travellers so we had it to ourself.
A good place”
my thai wife and i have stayed at many bungalow operations all over thailand, north to south. this was one of the better ones for the money; at least during the low season (we will not pay high season prices, as we travel for many months at a time). they have only ac rooms, but booking on agoda saved some baht. the room was clean and neat, and had hot shower water and quiet ac. the on site restaurant was not open then, but that's ok, as the nearby restaurants on the nearly deserted street were not too expensive and served good food. we both love dogs, and there were several very friendly ones there who were well fed by the manager. they would even lie on our porch sometimes when we sat outside. bottom line: good deal and friendly
Fab low-key, intimate beach resort w great staff”
having toured 3 weeks in thailand with sightseings and transportation, we looked for a relaxing place for a week. baan koh mak more than delivered on this, and we especially took to our hearts the great staff, kids-friendly, but still keeping a professional distance. the room were nice, small but clean and with a great design. the hammock in front of each house was the icing on the cake. the resort is situated right next to the beach, with a beach bar where the bartender sometimes gets on the beach in the evening and performs a fire-show. the sunset from the beach is a must. koh mak is a relaxing, quiet island, but still with enough choices for other eating places.
