Great Location to experience the local culture”
The price is good, and the staffs are able to understand English are generally helpful. The location is good as well to experience the local culture. The room is not very big, but it is cosy. At night it can be quite cold (during Winter period). Don't expect the breakfast to be a fantastic , as it is only 20 RMB. You can fry the egg yourself, or can ask the staff to help you if they are not busy.
Clean Hotel with self service breakfast”
location: hotel is located near metro station. it takes about 15 minutes walk. the hotel is located in hutong which you can have a walk, see and learn about hutong local people living. room: the room and bathroom is quite small. it's hard to put the big language and open it while there're three people in the room. however the room is clean and tiny. service: the staff are friendly and ready to give you information politely. food: you have to cook breakfast by yourself if you choose this hotel. the staff will prepare eggs and vegetable. there is mc donald near by the hotel. it takes 2 minutes walk and may be the better choice for those who don't want to cook.
Delightful Inn in a backlane”
Stayed here for almost a week and it was a great deal (at least it is on the Agoda rates, compared to the hotels' own advertised rates). It is located on a small road but it is close enough to the subway and also is close to some attractions including the Houhai drinking areas. Personable enough service and modest breakfast where you have to cook your own eggs but these novel features add to the atmosphere of the place. would definitely stay here again.
bad bad bad”
Only female staffs were kind. They didn't seem to clean the room. (just bad making) I stayed there for 6 days and they didn't even change the towel before I asked. And when I asked, they brought me stuff like rag. I also had to ask for tooth brush, tooth paste and toilet paper in reception everyday! Distance to subway station was quite good but that's all.
Not to demand more but convenient”
Suitable for budget traveler & convenient to access to subway. Room is a bit small & disadvantages are without lift & the room is a bit smelly perhaps due to poor air ventilation. If just look for a convenient stay & acceptable cleanliness, I would recommend this place.
Excellent choice in an Excellent location!!”
I enjoyed my stay in the Hutong , good location but also in a quiet back street. One problem we had real heavy cases and there was no lift and nobody to help us up 3 floors , we complained they gave us a room ground floor, other than that excellent choice of hotel.
Budget small hotel=Manager on duty NO warmth.”
Hotel is about 20 mins. slow walk from Guloudajie Subway Station.Exit towards Line 8 at Exit F or G.Once out you will see McDonalds.Walk pass 7 Inn hotel and about 100m. down the road you will see a RED sign "Zhangwang Hutong". Walk into the lane and you can see hotel sign ontop of roof "Zao Yuan Ju Hotel (Hutong Inn)". Trainee checked us in abt.1400h.with winter weather -3deg.C.Get help from one supervisor and one mgr.Trainee/Supervisor able to speak little english but felt no warmth from Manager(grumpy).Trainee felt pressured! Able to get requested room at 1st level instead of 3rd. floor due to lots of baggage.Overall, service was acceptable. Room no window, small but clean, enough for 2 pax.Room Tea(2pkts)& toiletries are FREE but the rest have to pay.Good for short stay.
Great service ”
A hotel that is value for money. Easy to locate. Don't expect 5 star hotel but if u r just looking for a night to crash in, it's pretty good. Only but thing is during winter, it's super cold. Staffs there were really helpful
Nice hotel, but the toilet smelled quite badly”
I booked the room for just me, but when I arrived, there were two beds, so I asked the staff if it would be OK of my friend, who lives in Beijing, could stay there as well, and they said yes, no problem. They speak English - better than most Chinese people, anyway, which is an enormous advantage. The first night the room was really cold, and we couldn't figure out the heater, but the staff kindly helped us when we asked them to the following day. Recommendable, I'd go there again.
Nice and clean hotel”
So far everything is fine. The Gulou MRT station is currently having construction and will be expanding. In coming future,it will be nearer for everyone to walk to the station from hotel. There are lots of restaurants, pubs, shops around the hotel. If you walk further down to the main street, there are some shops that you can see lots of unique items. Can be decorations, fashion and night market.
Great location and inexpensive”
We liked many things about the hotel. Some of the staff are more friendly than the rest. Laundry is 40 yuan per basket but don't get it done if you have a choice because my clothes carried odour after washing. I asked if we could check out at one o'clock because we fly at 4pm. One staff said we could but on the day of departure, another staff said that we could not do so. I wouldn't recommend the hotel breakfast because it is just eggs and bread for 20 yuan per pax. I prefer the local breakfast. If you get tired of fried stuff, look for the Hangzhou eatery in the next hutong. Just 5 minutes away and you get soupy and steamed stuff. Meat buns and dumpling are made fresh on the spot. Breakfast for one cost us about 5 yuan each. If you crave fastfood, Mcdonald's is nearby.
Good value for money”
ysia. We were out sightseeing the whole day while in Beijing on 13-19 Nov so we did not want a fancy, expensive accommodation. The Inn, situated in a hutong area and about 10 mins. walk to a metro station, was just perfect for us. for the money we paid for two rooms (we have four kids), we couldn't complain. The only problem we had was that there was a Chinese couple staying in an adjacent room who were fighting loudly late at night on the first night we checked in. Also, the toilet at room #305 was faulty but was quickly fixed after we told the reception counter. Room #325 has a certain unpleasant smell; an air freshener dispenser in each room would have been nice. The drain in the bathroom in room #325 also needs to be fixed; water clogged on the floor while taking shower. One other thing, I wanted to heat some food but apparently nobody at the counter - who actually spoke decent English - understood what 'microwave oven' means. Brushing up on the language a bit would do the Inn a lot of good. That said, I really should work on expanding my Mandarin vocab beyond 'Ni hao', 'Xie xie' and 'Tai gue le'! All in all, our pleasant stay far outweighed those niggling problems. Like I said, it's no four-star establishment, so keep your expectation low but don't let them wipe the floor with it. If we ever come to Beijing again, we will not hesitate to stay at the Inn provided the above issues are addressed.
Good and comfortable hotel”
This is very comfortable and simple hotel with good location and nice service. Wifi included, can rent bike. you can move around easily.Near to MRt. there is alot of restarant and bar near by. Very convinient。
brilliant location, keen staff; fairly good room”
I arrived at the hotel with a grampy face due to the tiring flights; but the receptionists did everything they could to put a smile on my face. I gave a hard time to them insisting that I have booked a double room rather than the twin room they kept for me (which I am wrong); but the receptionists exhausted their resources to find a middleland. The manager Mr Ye even double checked with me to my room making sure I am satisfied. I had a busy stay in Beijing and a great lot of fun in HouHai near the hotel; so busy that I guess I did not thank Hutong Inn enough.
More hostel than hotel”
Hotel was more like a hostel , small rooms with no wardrobes or closet area(there were a lot of rooms with no windows). Bathroom was good size and everything worked well. Computer and TV in room, wi-fi worked well. Beds usual hardness for China. Staff were helpful but gave the impression that they wouldn't go the extra mile if you needed them to, just a point in the right direction and no more. Nicely positioned in the Hutongs ,less than 10 mins walk from the subway and just behind the bell and drum towers. Only a short walk from Houhai bar street.
Room was quite nice and had no problems with the staff or room. No problems with presenting a foreign passport. Best thing about the hotel is the price and location which is right near Line 2 subway station.
Overall great value for money”
overall a really good value for money (at least the deluxe room). clean, quiet, friendly staff that speaks reasonably good english, everything (water, air conditioning, etc.) is working properly. apart from a few glitches it's a perfect place to stay if you want to travel on a budget. the most notable problem is that the hotel wifi is pretty useless for any practical purpose.
nice cosy hotel in the hutong”
hotel is located conviently near houhai there are many things to see around the lake also the bell tower is also a stone's throw away hotel toliet drainage was not so ideal breakfast is also passable, standard western fare of bread and butter
Small rm for 3 but lovely n service is gd”
Easy to book hotel n taxis are available. Go to train station abt 60 rmb n to airport abt 80 rmb. Going to houhai also very near abt 200 m. Very save. Hotel are nice n clean breakfast provided n u can make your own scramble eggs.reasonable price.
Nice location and great room !”
As far as the quality of the room, they are not very big or fancy, but it's just what you need to spend the night comfortably. The wireless internet they have in place is not that great, but I they had an ethernet plug in the room so I was able to get reliable internet. I didn't try their food since there's plenty of cheaper places to eat nearby, so I cannot speak for that. Overall it was a good experience, and I would certainly return. Cons - I think for the price there was really no weakness.
