Traveler impressions of Akita

The capital city of the province of the same name on Japan’s Honshu Island, Akita is a large metropolitan city. Akita Airport is less than an hour away from the city center, and serves many domestic flights from major Japanese cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Akita is home to the popular Kanto Matsuri festival, which takes place in the summer and is centered around prayers for the harvest season. The streets are beautifully lit-up with lanterns, and parades of people of all ages. It’s truly one of the highlights of visiting this city.

Akita is very easy to get around, whether by bus, taxi, or bike, so reaching attractions like the city’s Senshu Park will not be a challenge. Most of the hotels in Akita can be found right in the city center and within easy reach of the city’s many attractions.

Akarenga-Kan Museum houses many historical artifacts and arts pertaining to the Akita prefecture.

There’s much more to see and do in Akita, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this exciting city.
