More about Albany

Albany is a port city situated on Princess Royal Harbor. It is a city of history with its founding in 1826 making it the oldest continuous settlement in Western Australia. Albany Airport is 10km to the north and accepts daily flights from Perth. A cycleway network allows exploration of the city without having to rent a car, although exploration further out of town might require one.

Albany has plenty to see and do. On the historical front, there is the Old Convict Gaol showcasing the life of a convict here in 1852. Patrick Taylor Cottage is the oldest dwelling in Australia, and Princess Royal Fortress looks down on King George Sound from Mount Adelaide. There is also the oldest farm in Western Australia – the Strawberry Hill Farm. A great way to cover the history would be to take the Albany Historic Town Trails. Abany isn’t all old though, and it showcases some modern wonders as well. One such site would be the Albany Wind Farm and its 12 wind turbines that provide clean electricity. Classic Australian adventures can be had here as well, including whale watching and diving, and Whale World serves as a great complement to these activities.
