Traveler impressions of Amman

More about Amman

The history of Amman dates back to millennia before many other nations, its ruins going back to the ancient days of the Greek and Roman civilizations. However, Amman isn’t just about ancient history. This modern and vibrant metropolis is one of the most visited cities in the world, with one of the fastest growing economies.

Amman’s city center is full of unique and stunning attractions such as the ancient Roman Amphitheater, the Citadel, and King Abdullah I Mosque. The hill where the Citadel sits has been important to many kingdoms dating to prehistoric times. Mosques, Byzantine churches and Greek temples have all been located at this place at some point during its vast history.

While the Old City has plenty of attraction for tourists, the western part of the city also offers a more modern and upscale side of the city.

Most tourists arrive in Amman via Queen Alia International Airport or Amman Civil Apt Airport. Both airports are accompanied by a few hotels, but the selection is better downtown. The easiest way to get to the central districts is by taxi or rental car. Amman is a city of historic and cultural importance, but it’s also a modern and exciting place that should not be missed.
