Traveler impressions of Changsha
Changsha is definitely a big city, but is smaller than many other Chinese metropolises. There is plenty to do, whether seeking an expat or local experience.
Big sprawling foggy city. Clearly a lot of industry in this region. Good o/n stop on the way to Wulingyuan
Changsha. as with most other cities in China, is full of history. The Hunan Province Museum would bring you back to the era of more than 2000 years, and the recent history include the house of the great leader Chairman Mao.
I would only recommend staying here as a stop over to get a connection via Bullet/fast train out into Hunan to see Fenghuang and natural Parks.
This city has bad traffics even for us who stay in Jakarta!! Bad design for roads, u-turn, lights and can say totally bad city master-design.
Not much city attractions. Electronic city n computer city were nearby. It is a stop to get to fenghuang ancient city.
Changsha is an older city expanding into the modern era. Great food, shopping and site-seeing; especially the ancient Hunan university and an old houtong village about 80 kms from the city.
It was hot but people were very helpful giving directions and help with bus roots. some bus drivers went out of their way to help as my Chinese reading skills are very basic.
it is modernized design, clean with acceptable travelling network. Can find the locallized gourmet with comparative affortable price.
I thoroughly enjoyed the eating experiences. From the 'stinky tofu' to other skewered meats. The 'stinky tofu' is Changsha specialty and is very good.
This city is not as modern as the coastal cities of China. Traffic is quite disorderly and they are still building their subway system.
The place is famous for Mao Zhe Dong's original place. There are lots of famous places for sightseeing.
It is a city with a lot of modern developments going on. Rather congested and packed. However, nice city to go around eventhough it is difficult to find friendly faces.
Places to visit in Changsa will be Tianxin Ge, the riverside for boat ride, watch 20 minutes amazing fireworks entertainment from the island (Ju Ze Dao)on every Saturday night at 8.

More about Changsha
Cultural and historical sites in Changsha are aplenty. Most of the cultural sites pay homage to Mao Zedong, including Long Island and Mt. Shaoshan. Mt. Yuelu is another popular destination as the foot of this scenic destination is where the famous Yuelu Academy is located. The Hunan Provincial Museum is a fantastic stop for lovers of history as here can be seen the remains of a Western Han Dynasty woman excavated from the Mawangdui Han Tombs as well as thousands of unearthed relics. There is also the Kaifu Temple built in 927 AD and the ancient porcelain kiln site of Tongguan. For a bit of city living, there are a number of theaters where visitors can watch traditional folk art, and street vendors and restaurants serve up delicious local cuisine.
