Chiang Rai hotels & places to stay

There are few hotels in Chiang Rai that meet a Westerners expectations. Grand Vista does. Security is excellent, room is clean. Breakfast was Thai style with a special Chiang Rai speciality soup, vegetables/salad and egg station. Front desk staff was extremely kind and English was well spoken. For the rate I'd recommend this hotel as the #1 in CR. I recommend booking a back room as the front faces the highway and back-side is quiet.

Had a 2 night stay here with my elderly parents when touring Chiang Rai. This is a lovely hotel in Chiang Rai city, walking distance to the Chiang Rai night bazaar. Hotel staff spoke good English and were very smiley and friendly. We could feel that they were eager to please the guests with their prompt service and pleasant demeanour. According to the receptionist, the hotel is only a little over a year old, and you can feel the facilities are very new. Bed and bathroom was well kept and clean. The controls in the room uses touch sensors, not very elder friendly, but I guess that's OK. Breakfast was good with a decent spread. Freshly cooked eggs and bacon were available for ordering. Only feedback that the spread could get tired, particularly when one stays longer than 2 nights. Overall great hotel with exceptional value!

This hotel has been one of the highlights of my travels around Asia. Set on a quiet road about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Chiang Rai, the fairly ordinary entrance road does not prepare you for what waits at reception and beyond. Once checked in the friendly staff guide you through a tropical paradise of plants and trees to one of the spacious and well equipped bungalows. Make sure to bring mosquito repellent as this is one of the prices you pay for staying in the centre of so much greenery. Reception staff are friendly and helpful although two of my few criticisms of the resort are that a) Their airport transfer is overpriced by about 200 baht (I booked through the tour place across road) and b) some of their tours are also more expensive than walking across road - plus there do not seem a lot of options for the solo traveller. But these are both small, easily remedied criticisms. The attached restaurant bar provides breakfast in the morning and drinks and meals at night; remember to get your daily 10% discount coupon and remember the 3 for 2 happy hours too. The restaurant have both friendly staff and some amazing food. Try the Kao Soi Gai - a new dish for me and now one of my all time Thai favourites! The breakfast buffet was perhaps the best I have experienced with a wide range of Thai and Western choices. Also easy to get a tuk tuk up to the night market (should be about 50 baht each way) All in all, the LaLuna is a gem in Chiang Rai and is most definitely on the 'must return' list!

This is my first time at this hotel and it’s the best of the 3 hotels I have stayed in Chiang Rai. The location is very good in the centre of the traditional part of Chiang Rai. There are plenty of Thai and foreign restaurants nearby. The Night Bazaar is only 2 minutes’ walk and these markets are great affordable shopping with cheap eating options. The room was very pleasant and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is great with much variety. The staff are friendly and helpful. The shuttle to the airport is only 100 THB per person. The swimming pool is big and deep however, it is not suitable for non-swimmers and children. Even the shallow end is deeper than a young child. Supervision is essential. The hotel is popular for tour groups which means that the tourism industry sees this as value for money, but also means it can be very busy, especially with booming Chinese tourism. I have nothing to be disappointed about with my stay here.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was very quiet, the surrounding area is very beautiful, my room was awesome, and I was able to immerse myself in total quiet and relaxation. I felt tucked away from the the rest of the world. Upon check in, was upgraded to a room with a big tub on the balcony, which was awesome. I enjoyed hiking everyday and lounging by the quiet pool while staring at the mountains. I did not leave the resort for 4 days. This hotel is not a place to stay if you want to explore the towns nearby or use as a landing point for sightseeing. The hotel is about 45 minutes north of Chiang Rai and the hotel charges 300 baht just to take you into Mae Sai, and 1000 baht if you want to go to Chiang Rai. Only come here if you just want to relax and chill. To get back to Chiang Rai, I paid the hotel 300 baht to take me into Mae Sai and then I paid 20 baht to ride the bus to Chiang Rai. If you are coming from Chiang Rai, and you get a taxi to bring you to the hotel, (mine charged 400 baht), get your taxi driver's number so he can pick you up and bring you back to Chiang Rai when you leave.

The hotel is located in resort environment, I firstly surprised to see the ambient atmosphere with super staff service when I checked in. Chiang Rai is a very nice province upnorth of Thailand, it's fully filled with Thai cultural and natural experiences. Before I booked this hotel, I have gone thru the comments, most of them looked positive to me. I didn't disappoint myself to stay in this hotel. Breakfast was good, staff was nice, room was clean with perfect amenities, lots of car park space, free night ride to night market, beautiful flowers/trees all along the walkway, etc. Unfortunately, swimming pool was a bit off. Gym wasn't open in the morning. A bit far from downtown, therefore, those who have no car may find it a bit difficult, however, hotel has a service ride at reasonable price to anywhere in town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at De Hug. The reception staff (particularly the lady who seemed to be the manager) were exceptional. The welcome greeting was warm and sincere and she dealt with all our questions regarding routes to sights in an informative, efficient manner. Quite exceptional these days. The room was spacious, well-appointed and spotlessly clean.The hotel is situated in a most convenient location and within easy walking distance of the Sunday night market and other local eateries. I would most definitely recommend the hotel to travellers. It's about a 20 minute drive to the White Temple - artistically intriguing.Try to visit Canary Natural Resort while you are in Chiang Rai. A beautifully tranquil property in exquisite surroundings. Relaxing to sit on the verandah overlooking the hills, forests and gardens. Coffee (locally grown) is robust and aromatic., particularly at sunset. Thank you De Hug for a most enjoyable stay.

Room service from Tid Doi Tid Din was by far the worst thing we ate in Chiang Rai. Breakfast buffet was great for a breakfast buffet. There is excellent food in the area, but there is a message/guideline posted requesting that guests don't bring in food, which was disturbing and offensive considering the quality of the room service. The staff were cordial and professional. They took a while to get around to requests at times, but at other and more important tasks, they were very prompt. The room was close to immaculate and much more impressive than it appeared on the website. The pool and view were not impressive.

the hotel consists of 15-20 small buildings, each having 2-4 rooms, disposed around the swimming pool. a night-lit running track encircles the site. the hotel is on the road to the airport, very close to it (free ride to/from), but a good distance from the city (baht ride). there is nothing of interest immediately around the hotel, so it is mainly a place to relax, or a base from which to go explore the (beautiful) region. you are going to have to rent a scooter or car to go to chiang rai, or pay 2x250 baht for the roundtrip every time you go downtown. i found chiang rai fairly boring, dead after 9pm, so i would not see any benefit to booking a hotel downtown. the "superior" room was very enjoyable: large, quiet, clean, well ventilated. the bathroom only had a shower, but that's fine with me. the safe was large enough for laptop + cameras + stuff. the breakfast buffet was the best i had during my trip to thailand. good choice and quality. the staff is friendly and tries hard to help, but some of the pretty desk ladies only have very limited english speaking skills (but a lot better than my thai).

stayed one night before flying out to bangkok. saw the hotel on agoda and was very happy we chose this one as it has a huge lobby, huge dinning room and nice pool surrounded by lovely trees and plants. the room was small with two twin beds but very confortable with fridge, hot water for coffee and the bathroom was well laid out. roomrate came with breakfast and we had a good buffet breakfast before flying out. they have a van for each to the airport and not wanting to take a tuktuk we went by the van. the hotel is so close to the newest or only mall in chiang rai with the only starbucks so we enjoyed walking over to the mall for dinner and coffee, very nice mall, about time chiang rai got one. will be back and will stay at this hotel again.

the hotel is simple but nice. spacious room even with the extra bed with the nice mountain view(deluxe room.they have a large living room in the hotel building where you can watch tv, read a book or whatever.we stayed there the night before visiting the royal villa and mae fah luang garden and it is very convenient. we were the first one to enter the royal villa at 7 am. the hotel provide the minivan service from the hotel to the entrance royal villa. it is quite far to walk to the hotel restaurant but the hotel have the minivan service and the driver was very polite. we felt like we were royal family members. the food also excellent and big portion.i will definitely go back.

General impressions: This resort is set apart from the main street and overlooks the Kok River. For our trip in February, the resort was very quiet, with only a couple dozen other guests from what we could gather. Public Areas: The lobby is spacious and comfortable. A welcome drink is offered during check-in. The main pool area is scenic and well designed, though the pool water was a bit too cold for our tastes. Only one elevator is available for each wing of the hotel, though given the low number of guests, this was not an issue. Rooms: Rooms were quite spacious with a comfortable Thai-style couch by the window. The rooms actually look nicer in person than they did in photos. Bathrooms were also quite clean and all plumbing worked well. WiFi is free and rather fast. Power outlets are plentiful. Food: Breakfast is rather good, even if the buffet is a bit small. Fresh eggs are cooked to order perfectly. Room service is also available and the pricing is very reasonable given that this is a resort set apart from the main roads. The food, particularly the curries, was delicious. Services: The hotel offers a van service to the Night Bazaar upon demand. The fee is 100 baht each way per room. (The return trip can be made via other means, though taxis are not plentiful in Chiang Rai.) A pleasant surprise was the free airport shuttle, also available upon demand. I recommend checking with the hotel first to ensure availability, even though this didn't seem necessary when we used the service.

We were only at Diamond Park Inn Resort for a quick overnight stay, so we didn't get a real sense of the place. The staff was friendly, and the rooms were fine. We arrived at the wrong hotel initially, because there are two hotels in Chiang Rai of the same name (Diamond Park Inn and Diamond Park Inn Resort) and the staff kindly drove us from one location to the next:)

Wangcome is a pleasant clean hotel right in centre of Chiang Rai, all the facilities which a tourist may require are readily to hand. It's a little dated but clean and comfortable. The breakfast menu could do with a little more imagination, however, there is more than enough choice to see you through to a late lunch

I wasn't expecting such a great hotel in Chiang Rai as the city is abit of a sleepy place (and the reason I visited to get away from the chaos of Bangkok) but the Rasa is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The whole place is very clean and well designed. The beds are firm and comfy and the rooms are well proportioned and the water is the fridge is free! (important in hot Thailand) The breakfast served was huge (3 courses!) and tasted good. The best thing about the hotel is the quality if the staff. An example was when we were greeted at the car park with an umbrella on return from a rainy day out (you don't get this outside of posh hotels!) Also the staff were friendly and spoke good English.

Stayed at Pimanninn for first time, and was more than satisfied w/ quality of room, especially for having been booked at such budget price. Location is not the best in Chiang Rai, but one may walk to several areas of interest w/in 20 minutes. Staff is very friendly, although severely lacking in English communication skills. Swimming pool is rather large, and Fitness Center is replete w/ high-qualify fitness equipment. If visiting Chiang Rai in future, will definitely consider booking at Pimanninn again.

My husband and I stayed here while visiting Chiang Rai. The hotel was about a 10-15 minute drive from the airport. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The receptionist spoke English and were able to communicate with us for any of our needs during our stay. The hotel has a free shuttle each night to the Night Bazaar which was great! We also rented a scooter from a company that was advertised at the front desk, and the staff at the resort made sure the booking went smoothly for us. They all work very hard! The room was very clean. Nothing fancy or big, however we did not expect that when booking, and it was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We didn’t use the pool, but it did look very nice and well maintained. The free breakfast was great as well. They did have some of the same dishes each day, but there was plenty of food to choose from, and we were quite happy! We would definitely recommend this hotel to people travelling to Chiang Rai :)

We stayed in the hotel for 3 days, and had a lovely time. I have never before had such beautiful views as those from the dinning room. The staff were always very helpful and attentive. The room was very clean and well equipped. I loved my time in Chiang Rai and the surrounding area, and will be using this hotel again.

just few minutes from central Chiang Rai but feeled like stayed in Bali🌴 I would be back my next trip to Chiang Rai . Agree

We only booked for one night in a garden villa but ended up staying for 2 nights and didn't want to leave at all. This place is sooooo nice it feels like you are in a nature with the sound of birds singing in the background all the time. The villa is specious with big balcony, very clean and very beautiful with Bali style. It is also so private each bungalow is close to each other. The staff is very helpful and very nice. We live in Chiang Mai but will definitely come back to this place as often as possible. It feels so much like home but in a super nice environment. This place is very beautiful with big and small trees everywhere which we love. This has become one of our favorites places to relax that's for sure.

The hotel 10 mins outside Chiang Rai no problem as we had a hire car but could be problem if you don't.I seen buggies at the entrance but never asked if they were going into town.The staff very frendly and helpful the room were excellent clean cosy and spacious.We had 2 teenager chidren and they like the place which is saying something for a peacefull retreat like this,

The Bandu Resort, as of November 2019, is under a new very committed and enthusiastic management, which will definitely improve an already very good structure. Location is excellent if you need to get to the airport as well as for daily trips in the Chiang Rai area. Not far from the city either, although very good wating/drinking options are within walking distance in the nearby streets, especially if you like to live the genuine local scene away from the tourists. Nice (salt water) pool open till evening (9pm i think). Last but not least, very good value for the cost. I'll stay here again next time I am in the Chiang Rai area. This is one of the few times when the actual experience of the property/facilities was nicer than the photos (it's usually the other way around). The hotel exceeded our expectations and made for a happy stay. The staff is very friendly and the hotel room was big, very nicely appointed, and clean. The hotel grounds were well kept and very pleasing - quiet, comfortable and relaxing. We overlooked the pool, had a nice little balcony, and were always greeted very nicely by the service staff whenever we'd encounter them. The breakfast was pretty good in that they make eggs to order and have fresh waffles, plus fruit (besides the local foods, which we tasted, but we preferred to eat the western food). If you're looking for a really nice breakfast buffet, you won't find it here - but, for us, that it was perfect (fruit, salad, eggs, waffles and coffee). We only had dinner at the hotel once, and we ate light, so not much to comment regarding the food from the restaurant. What we had was nice and met our expectations. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning on staying in Chiang Rai. We really really enjoyed our Chiang Rai experience, and our stay was made extra special because of this hotel.

Way WAY out of town. Not worth the money. Not inviting. Room smelled moldy, had no WiFi (although it is advertised as available in rooms) and the sliding door couldn't lock (could move the whole complete door to one side . . .it didn't fit into its original frame). Although satellite TV (none in English or even English subtitles . . . .you have your own decoder, but you can't choose English). Laundry is definitely overpriced for the service. No mini bar. Very noisy. . . especially in the early morning with guests checking out. The reason being that sound is carried and echoes throughout the whole hotel. . . Ring design and all room doors aren't sealed properly with huge gaps under the door. Swimming pool area was nice and the restaurant food was excellent. The fitness center was disappointing and requires more equipment. . . . ALL this said and done and having the worst first impression ever arriving at the hotel and then trying to check out again which ended in a huge fail. . . . . the manager went out of his way to put us in a VIP suite. This room was excellent and would recommend it IF a foreigner wants to go here, to book the suite instead of the other available rooms. This place is way too far from anything. . .not even a 7Eleven is nearby. It forces you then to stay at the hotel and make use of their restaurant and "bar". . .also have to mention that not everything on the menu was available and same goes for the so called "bar". We stayed for 3 nights and the best day was when we went to the hospital in Chiang Rai and only got back late that afternoon (that should say something).

We were a little confused during check in since the payment was not made thru on line. The price thru Agoda was in dollars but front desk would not accept dollars. We also have to deposit 1000 baths for key deposit not mentioned in Agoda plus very unusual for hotel. The rooms had no hand towels or soap for sink. We had half a roll of toilet tissue. The room was not cleaned for second day of stay. No clean towels. We got up early but the second floor door was locked and could not come down stairs thru the lobby just like prison. I mentioned that to the manager but he just said he locked the door so stuff would not be stolen! Wow! We are guests not thieves. Entrance to the property is awkward as it is diagonal to the road and many cars must have scraped their cars. The positive notes are that the building is new and everything is still new. The price is too high for the location. The coffee was served early but the manager said 9 am us a normal time. If you want to accommodate guests especially thru Agoda, I would have more competitive standard. Than what they have. I’d like to see Thais do well and not fails after a few years. So use this review as you see fit.

After spending 2 days in Chiang Rai we wanted to get more out into the surrounding countryside and the Manee Dheva was the perfect place for us! It is located about 45 minutes outside of Chiang Rai and this resort provides transport to their place. The owner, Francis was very helpful with emails to help us coordinate our tours and how we'd get to and from this resort since we didn't have a car. We absolutely loved the location out in nature with the rice fields and mountains in the background. The individual villas were clean and spacious and you really felt a sense of peace out in nature at this resort. We especially enjoyed visiting the Golden Horse Monastery that was about 20 minutes away and heading up into the hills of Doi Mae Salong. We stayed here 2 nights and could have stayed longer as it was truly a relaxing and beautiful resort!

We were impressed with the resort and pool - we definitely weren't expecting what we got because we paid such a low price. This place is very good value for money!! The staff were very friendly and helpful too. However, there are some things you need to know, especially for families with young children. The pool, although very clean, has no cover so hats and sunscreen are a must. There is also no barrier separating the deep pool from the children's pool, so you need to be watching your children AT ALL TIMES! It is very easy for them to be walking along in the children's pool and all of a sudden step onto ground that is too deep for them to stand. I highly recommend the hotel put a barrier there before something happens. Luck Swan is also a few kms out of town which is great for those who have a car or tour guides picking them up, but not for those who want to be able to walk to the night market. The only other thing is that it seems to be a popular place for meetings and large tours, which meant that for both nights during our stay there were tour groups from other asian countries that arrived late at night and were yelling near our door (past 10pm). This, of course, is not the hotel's fault. But just something to be aware of. It can happen at any place. If this becomes a problem it would be good for the hotel to put up signs asking guests to be mindful of others. For those with a low budget who want a clean, professional hotel with a swimming pool, and have your own transport to the places you need to go in Chiang Rai, Luck Swan is a great choice.

It's very beautiful hotel in Chiang Rai. Room is very clean and all of the staffs are very polite. The breakfast have many kind of food that you can choice. And they have shuttle bus to airport and bus terminal for free. They also provide many local tour service for customer. Highly recommend Nak Nakara hotel when you travel in Chiang Rai.

We love this place! The view was so nice wherever you were in this hotel! Because we went to this hotel on weekdays before long weekends started so we felt like we're only customer there, actually they had another customers too but it just what we felt, so we had dinner, breakfast, explored the hotel just only 2 of us and felt like we own the swimming pool which is great! The location was great because we stayed on the top of the mountain, surrounded by the lake but a bit hard to go out because you have to take a boat to get in or go out and a bit far from the town.
