Traveler impressions of Chiang Saen

More about Chiang Saen

Long ago, Chiang Saen was a major city in the Lanna Kingdom, serving as the capital city until the 1200s. With its history going back so far, it’s no wonder why Chiang Saen is a stunning and historical city that sees thousands of visitors every year. The city is easy to reach from Chiang Rai, just a couple of hours by bus from the city for a very cheap fare. It’s also possible to just rent a car in Chiang Mai and drive along the stunning countryside to visit this and many other small cities along the way.

Chiang Saen’s strategic location right by the Golden Triangle also makes it a favorite destination for geography buffs. For those who don’t really that much about the convergence point of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar, there’s the gorgeous scenery of the nearby Golden Triangle Park, a complete recreational area with shopping and dining opportunities.

Wat Pradhatphangao maybe yet another Buddhist temple in a country that has no shortage of them, but it’s also spectacularly located overlooking the Mekong, and is home to many statues and a unique Chedi. A place of religious and cultural significance, it’s also a favorite subject for many shutterbugs.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Chiang Saen, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
