More about Chom Thong

This small town in Chaing Mai province is best known as the gateway into one of the most famous national parks in this region. From Chiang Mai, the easiest way to reach the town is by car or public bus, arriving right in the center of town where the highest concentration of hotels and local guesthouses can be found.

While the town has its own charms as most small towns in Thailand do, the main attraction here is Doi Inthanon National Park, which can take several days to fully explore, and even then it’s not possible to say one has seen or done it all. This national park is home to the highest mountain in the country, which makes it a popular destination among mountain climbers and trekking enthusiasts who flock to the park to reach the peak.

Besides the impressive mountain, Doi Inthanon is also home to many waterfalls and wildlife that should not be neglected by any traveler. One of the biggest waterfalls in this park is Mae Ya Waterfall, a very popular destination for very good reason.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Chom Thong, especially if concentrating one’s focus on the massive national park that takes over the whole town. The best way to see everything that this area has to offer is to explore the interactive map on this page.
