Traveler impressions of Dubrovnik

More about Dubrovnik

For such a small city, Dubrovnik packs a big punch with its intact city walls and Mediterranean atmosphere. The “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as a prominent tourist resort that attracts heads of states and celebrities to its gorgeous shores. The area is served by Dubrovnik Airport, which is 20 kilometers to the south.

This ancient city is filled with wonderful museums, churches, forts, and beaches, all set within an incredible environment. The Old Town is undoubtedly a highlight and includes Sponza Palace, Placa Stradun, and Big Onofrio’s Fountain. The city walls are another must-see and can be walked on for stunning views and a feel of the history they represent. They have even starred in the “Game of Thrones” series as the setting of several fictional places. Other sites related to the series include Rector’s Palace and Lokrum Island. A number of forts are within the walls as well, with St. John’s Fort housing the Aquarium and the Maritime Museum and Minceta Fort being one of the city’s most beautiful cultural attractions. Gorgeous churches offer the opportunity to tour or worship and include Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Church of St. Ignatius and the Jesuit College. Beaches, cliff jumping, and sailing provide recreation and leisure between visits to these wonders of Dubrovnik.
