"As a young single student Western woman traveler, this place was ideal. It was extremely affordable, easily navigable to everything I wanted to see, and provided the most amazing onsen experience. Be warned: there is no giant sign on the road with the name of the place. Be sure you use google maps to figure out you’re at the right spot. There isn’t an elevator from the street level to the lobby, so be prepared for some stairs. The place was practically empty when I stayed. I had both the indoor and outdoor onsen co plenteous to myself both at night and the following morning. The staff is great, the capsule rooms are the biggest I’ve ever stayed in, and the mattress was actually comfortable which was a capsule hotel first for me. "

"Had it not been for the savings of the Go To travel campaign, I would have chosen a different accommodation. Overall, Wisterian was good. The level of English spoken is non-existent so use Google Translate at your peril. The facilities are dated but the rooms are kept clean, larger rooms than you would see in Japan and the views are superb. I was taken aback though by the advance notice required to eat at the hotel—two days! I laughed hysterically as this means I wouldn’t be able to eat there during my two-night stay. Either the restaurant is a well sought after Michelin-rated gem or they would rather not have me use my GoTo travel coupons there. No real reason was given for this procedure but I was accommodated after a short consultation with the manager. A ten minute walk to a 7/11 is the only economical option for food. Be prepared to walk up the hill to return. It is most certainly helpful that there is a free shuttle bus service between the hotel and Gora Station. I used this to connect with the main transportation links around Hakone. The sauna and pool were not opened during my stay which was a real let down but the onsen was available for use. Certainly better than most but for the cost it could be better appointed. "
