Hakone Kowakien Tenyu met my expectation in every way. We are a family of 4 and have booked 2 rooms for our stay. Our flight to Tokyo was delayed by 2 days due to Typhoon so we didn't have time to enjoy Hakone before our hotel checkin. We had a day tour in Tokyo instead and was dropped off to the hotel by our driver at 7:00pm. Due to our change in plan, we had to cancel our spa reservation at this hotel. With our reservation package, each lady/girl received a very pretty yukata kimono to wear during our stay and to bring home. We dressed and had an excellent multi course Kaiseki meal at their restaurant. Staff were attentive and provided excellent service. My daughter is allergic to fish and they designed a totally different menu for her to enjoy. After dinner, my daughters enjoyed the private spring soak in their room while I tried the public bath. It was a great experience. The whole place is zen and tranquil. The outdoor bath is an infinity pool with an excellent view. The next morning, we woke up early and enjoyed their beautiful scenery and private garden. We took lots of beautiful photos in our kimonos. Later we tried the other outdoor public bath which showcased a natural waterfall with beautiful rocks surrounding the area. Our skin and hair felt so smooth and glowing after the bath. Their multicourse breakfast in Japanese and Western styles were both excellent. You can tell that they put an effort in ensuring guests have a good experience here. Reception staff helped us arranged a taxi transfer to the train station. Everything went well. Their gift shop carries lots of local and private brand products which are all reasonably priced. I bought all my Hakone souvenirs from here. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Hakone. I feel refreshed after the night. Next time I will try their spa service.

We were recommended by our friends to stay in this hotel in Hakone, and it turns out it’s worthy! Especially the dinner and breakfast, honestly it’s the most delicious and delicate one I’ve ever had in Japan. The onsen was great, you could really see the mountains in your room. Awesome stay in general.

We never give reviews for hotels which we stay at. However, I thought I would do justice to The Prince Hakone Hotel by writing a short review on it. We arrived at the hotel on one misty night, and sighted the hotel from afar. It looked magical, sitting in all that mist. Upon checking in, we went to the outdoor onsen, which was simply rejuvenating. Not to mention the sealy mattress which we provided in the room. It felt like resting on a cloud. We awoke next morning, feeling simply recharged. I would definitely visit The Prince Hakone again!

The hotel staffs are friendly. Breakfast restaurant environment and service is good. But Breakfast choice is limited - either japanese or American breakfast. Hotel room is big and comfy. There is Onsen available in the hotel and free for guest. Very near to the bus stop (about 1 min walk only) where you can ride on the bus to most of the Hakone Tourist spots using Hakone Free Pass. Hakone Free Pass can be purchased at Shinjuku Station Odawara Station. Getting it at Odawara station and you can use the free pass to ride on the bus direct go to Hakone Highland hotel. The bus will stop at the bus stop right outside of the hotel. It’s a less than a min walk of distance from bus stop to the hotel. Wheel Chair (fold up), baby stroller (fold up) and Big Luggage is allowed to bring onboard. Recommended for traveller with baby, old fold and in a family.

the staff can speak English. very helpful, when we took photos on the foot onsen area, one of the staff rush out from lobby and help us to take few photos. very helpful. the food is extremely good, far much over my expectation. the two main courses are good and the services are very nice. anyway, it is lucky for me to choose this hotel in Hakone area. Thanks.

We stayed at Hakone Suimeiso in early December 2016. It was our second time to Hakone and we had fond memories of our last stay as we had stayed Hakone Yumoto Hotel and we enjoyed it. It is not difficult to find the hotel as it is about 5mins walk from the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The staff are very friendly and welcome you with traditional Japanese hospitality. We stayed at the Japanese-Style Room with Open-Air Bath. The rooms are beautiful with simple zen style decor. However, the tub in the balcony was one of the highlight of the stay. Overlooking the flowing river with waterfall and beautiful autumn leaves you will enjoy a relaxing time listening to the sound of the waterfall. The tub comes with piped hot spring water. If you prefer an outdoor onsen it is available on the top floor of the hotel. Dinner and breakfast was served in the private dining room on the same floor as our room and it was a wonderful spread of Japanese dining which even includes desert. The staff are very friendly and showed great hospitality. While eating your dinner the staff will lay down the futons in your room and while you are having breakfast they will keep them. The hotel is so close to the shops around Hakone-Yumoto station and here you can find souvenirs and many wonderful local delights such as dried plums, Hakone rusk, rice cracker and even a nice cafe to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and some cheese cake. You can purchase the Hakone Freepass which covers most of the transportation (train, bus, cable car, cruise) in the Hakone-Odawara area so that you can enjoy exploring the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hakone Suimeiso and it has further left a wonderful deep lasting memory of Hakone.

We stayed one night at Hakone Hotel. Location is very close to the busstop (to Moto-Hakone,....,... and finally Odawara) and Hakone-Machi Pier (Hakone Sightseeing Ships from Togendai). Staff is very friendly. We stayed at twin room.Facilities are very good and rooms are comfortable(at front deck, we requested lake view room).Two ladies who were at front desk can speak English very well and nicely talked with us.One was pleasantly guided us. However, foods are very expensive in Hotel restaurant. In overall, Hakone Hotel is very good option to enjoy your holiday with family.

Even though the price is not low when comparing with other hotels in Hakone area, but Hakone airu is the one that the price is lower then what it worths ! Strongly recommended ! Staffs are very very nice and the service provided is absolutely perfect ! Food is great and pretty ! If there is a chance for me to go to Hakone one more time, this hotel probably will be on my list again !

We booked two of the private onsen rooms - one for my parents and one for my husband and I - since we weren’t sure we could brave the public onsen. We can’t rave enough about this place. Great traditional ryokan experience, amazing dinner and breakfast, relaxing onsens, the sweetest staff, and conveniently close to the Hakone Yumoto station. Each room’s layout was completely different and uniquely beautiful. The photos really don’t do it justice. Unfortunately since the lighting is dim on purpose, I couldn’t even capture any good photos or videos. We felt like each of our hotel rooms was a whole house with all of the space. Our rooms were made up of several separate spaces - a living room with a table/4 chairs and balcony, a separate bedroom, closet, toilet room, vanity/sink room, partially outdoor onsen bath and separate shower... we were thrilled! The food... OMG! Just amazing. Rounds and rounds of courses for both the dinner and breakfast. Everything was so thoughtfully and intentionally created, and although tiny at first, we all got so stuffed we couldn’t finish everything. And my husband and dad eat a ton... We ended up checking out all of the public onsens - there were 2 pubic onsen rooms, each with two onsens, and also a public one that you can reserve for private use. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and could visibly see the difference in our skin and facial complexion after just a 15 min soak. The staff were also so kind and allowed us to check our luggage before check-in as well as after check-out. Our server NaiZuKi (sp?) was incredibly sweet and kind - she made our stay even better! She spoke English, Chinese and Japanese! I had read in some past reviews about the staff not speaking anything but Japanese, but we didn’t find that was the case at all. It’s a super close walk to the Hakone Yumoto station, which seems kind of far from all of the other Hakone points of interest like Lake Ashi, etc. but it’s honestly all pretty easy to get to if you g

Is a good experience to stay at this hot spring bath hotel in Hakone. The location was great just few steps walk from the Gora station. The hotel facilities was great too and we all have enjoy the services provide from the hotel like breakfast, dinner, snack, bathing and etc.

Room has a private onsen & interior uses a lot of wooden structure infusing nice wood smell. Advance booking is recommended and essential. Agoda can offer over 50% discount which includes decent Japanese breakfast and dinner. Famous Little Prince museum and Venetian Glass museum is nearby as well as well known Pampas grass field. Take bus route T from Hakone Yumoto station and get off at Daigateke stop (there's a Lawson convenient store) . It's about 40min trip. Only 1 min walk to hotel from bus stop. Better to buy Hakone Free Pass from Odakyu Shinjuku station. It includes train from Shinjuku to Hakone, most of the public transport in Hakone including Tozan bus, train, cable car, Ropeway and the famous cruise in Lake Ashi to see the Torii in the water.

We stay here when there is heavy mist, so can't really appreciate the surrounding scenery. This hotel is much expensive than other hotel in hakone area with similar facilities. The winning point is the scenery so do come in right season. Dinner is great but expensive as not included in the room price. Great service, love the breakfast too which is not buffet but proper dining.

If you are looking for a true onsen ryokan experience, this is the right place. We booked the room with breakfast and dinner provided, japanese cuisine includes some raw fish. You can also book the private onsen or use the public onsen which is open 24 hours. Please do respect the property and the owners, lower down your volume. Get the Hakone 2 or 3 days pass if you will be travelling around as it includes the various transportation provided near the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again if we are in Hakone.

Spent one night in this hotel during my visit to Hakone and Gotemba. Just one bus ride from Hakone Yumoto train station. Hotel is located alongside the main road in Hakone, very near to bus stop in front of Shinanoki Highland Hotel. Room is quite spacious for a couple. We really loved the kotatsu (Japanese table with electric heater) that kept us warm in early spring. There is also private open air bath just outside of your window room facing the garden full of hydrangea flowers. The stone bath tub is spacious for single person to soak into. Be careful with bath water temperature as it is very hot with no means to lower it. Public open air bath on the second floor is recommended as it is much spacious with and much bearable water temperature. We were served traditional Japanese breakfast specific for each guest. Drinks, however, were self-service.

for a first-timer to hakone, hotel okada is an excellent choice for it is conveniently located near to hakone yumoto stn & has a shuttle bus (yen100) that runs between the stn to the hotel. even if you miss the last shuttle run (at 6pm), you still can walk to the hotel (10-15mins walk) and it is quite a pleasant and cooling walk for me. okada spotted a nice location besides the river. the exterior & interior decor are very jap, just what i was lookng for to experience. i book the jap style accomo, sleeping in futon (fortunately the staff already made up the futon for us) and walking on tatami floor in the room, enjoying tea over the jap table setting, all adds on to a truely jap experience. i tried in indoor and outdoor onsen too, not a big onsen pool but was a good experience. the hotel staff are very helpful too and they truely maintain this hotel clean and tidy. certainly worth the stay! only thing i find that hotels in hakone generally can improve on is the check-in and check-out time. check-in at 3pm (after a long journey there) is tiring, and moreover having to checkout by 10am is just too early! but we can leave our lugguage at the conceige and continue sight-seeing till late.

This was an excellent place. The baths are lovely and clean. There are two private baths you can book half hour timeslots, and gender-separated public baths that are open for you to visit whenever. Service was excellent; most of the staff speak only Japanese but with Google Translate and lots of gestures, we got on just fine. Some of the lobby staff speak English so you won't be stranded. English menus and signs are all available. Their gift shop was lovely and OMG THE FOOD. SO MUCH FOOD. They serve you breakfast and dinner. You do not need lunch at all. The dishes were all unique, very Japanese, richly flavored, and perfectly made. Our room overlooked Mount Hakone and a lovely bamboo forest. The only warning I would give is that, since you're in the mountains with outdoor baths, be careful of the various insects that you might encounter. The ryokan itself is lovely and clean, but bugs around the outdoor baths cannot be helped.

Very friendly hotel staff, they will show you all the facilities and show you the way to your room. The hotel onsen is really good. Hotel room is big with very good view. Will definitely come again when visit to Hakone

Beautiful view of surrounding forest in our deluxe room with private hot spring bath. Authentic Japanese meals were artfully prepared, fresh and delicious. The staff was amazing and we felt like VIPs throughout our stay. My husband and I both had massages at the spa and they were excellent. Tipping is not customary in Japan, but this staff deserved tips more than anyone we have ever encountered and it felt wrong not tipping. So, we will at least leave this complimentary review so they know we experienced five star service all the way around. We enjoyed our stay - truly the best accommodations on our 19-day trip. Cannot say enough good things about Hakone Hotel Manatei.

I had a blissful stay at Ryenken Seiko, the wonderful lady at the information desk at the station was so helpful and was able to guide us to the hotel immediately after mentioning the name of our hotel with no problems at all, as we made our way to the hotel we got a glimpse of the Sunkon Renkon which was amaizing, a must see in Hakone! Hotel staff were great as were the rooms! Onsens were absolute bliss!

From the Hakone-Yumoto Station, you can use the overpass bridge to cross the street. There is a Tourist information office there. In front of the tourist info office is a bus stop for min-bus A, B & C. Bus A is going to Hotel Tenseien and will cost 100 yen per person (as of May 2016) and will take about 15 min., mostly because of the traffic because the streets are very narrow. We walked one night from Hakone-Yumoto to Hotel and it took us about 20 min. I think that was around 9:30pm and there’s no more Bus A… The bus stop for Bus A going back to Hakone-Yumoto station is just outside the hotel. Very convenient. Before the main hotel entrance is a bridge and a river…very cool! The Hotel is amazing. It’s very clean. Shoes are not allowed anywhere inside the hotel. There are shoe cabinets by the entrance and you must keep the keys. The room is big for japan standard. The toilet is a bit small. Our room window is facing the waterfalls…nice view. They provide Yukata (robe) for everyone so you get that Japanese feeling. They have slippers for everyone to use whenever you want to explore the garden, the shrine, around the pond and if you want to enjoy the beauty of the 2 waterfalls…..again, amazing view. They have a 24-hour shop. They have I think 24-hour Onsen on the rooftop which is the best! The amenities are great! They have steam-bath, Sauna, indoor and outdoor onsen….yes on the roof top…under the sky…under the stars.I want to go back now. They have relaxation room and they provide massage services. This place is totally the most relaxing hotel I have ever been. The Food is good. The breakfast selection is huge. We had ala-carte dinner and the sushi and soba noodles are good. The service is also good. Free wifi. Staffs can speak english well.

This is one of the hotels in Hakone area that offers single room, but I actually got a room with two beds. The room is actually pretty roomy for Japan; it even has a sofa chair and desk area. The service is great, I deposit my luggage at front desk before checkin time, when I came back a front desk staff walked me to my room with luggage already inside. Right across the street from Hakone Yumoto station, very good location. The hot spring is very enjoyable. However, this hotel is pretty pricy. Dinner sets cost from 5500yen and up. Rental of DVD player is also 5000+yen per night. No wifi, and the lobby pay computer is really slow. Overall a convenient hotel if you can book it for a good price.

We stayed during a 3-day Japanese holiday. Hakone itself was really packed, so I suggest looking up holidays before booking. There were a good number of English speakers here in case you need. We enjoyed the view and our private bath from our room. Room was definitely big compared to Tokyo. The bed was low and not as thick. I like abit of firm, but my partner does not. Dinner and breakfast was great and so much food. I didn't have good wifi days before we arrived, and I missed their message asking about substitution. We didn't want to make it a big deal since he was capable of comsuming fish, but just tired of eating it since it was a staple in many of our prior meals, so we told them it was ok if they couldn't do it. They were able to accommodate my partner's request to substitute fish at the last minute which was sweet of them and he really appreciated it. I would've liked to have tried out the onsen, and hope to be back in the Hakone area again. Staff was warm and helpful

Upgraded our room to the japanese room with private onsen. We stayed here only one night but used the onsen three times. The dinner was a huge buffet of japanese food: beef, sushi, tempura, salad, desserts and everything in between. The staff made our sleeping futons while we were out to dinner. The garden was full of roses and other flowers. Even though the wearher was cloudy and we couldnt see mt Fuji, the entire property was so peaceful. A welcome escape from our trip to the busier cities. The breakfast was also a large buffet. The ropeway on either side of the hotel was out for maintance so we used the local bus. This was a great option as it allowed us to see the small towns in Hakone.

Let me tell you that I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel because it had no reviews and because we got it at such a great rate - similar to what we'd pay for a 3-star hotel in the U.S. I honestly expected to be told that that price we paid was per person rather than per room and that we owed them three times as much as we had prepaid. I was also nervous because it had what looked like business facililities and so I guessed that they had primarily Japanese clientele and that there would a serious language barrier. Both fears were unfounded. The moment we walked in the door the hotel manager greeted us by our family name and welcomed us in! Every inch of the hotel in and out was immaculately clean and new. We wanted to stay in a traditional Japanese hotel and it was. At the door of the hotel we were asked to take off our shoes, and we were given slippers for the inside of the hotel and bags for our shoes. The rooms had fresh tatami mats and, in the closets, futons and comforters for floor sleeping. The gardens around the hotel were lovely. The onsen was amazing. There is a typical sulphur spring and a gypsum sulfur spring-very hot! For westerners who may feel shy about bathing nude with others, I suggest you take advantage of your jet lag and visit the onsen in the middle of the night. I did at 3 a.m. and I had it all to myself. Our room included a Japanese breakfast. What a wonderful experience! Please note that it is not a buffet, but a breakfast prepared specifically for your party and you should arrive on time. Our meal included Hakone flat fish and my four boys ages 7, 10, 13 & 14 are very picky eaters but they all raved about it! Everything was so fresh and so well executed.

When my husband told me that he booked a 2-star hotel, I have to say I was a reticent. However, when we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was friendly and helpful and kept our luggage after check-out which was greatly appreciated! They provided us with a map and told us about the restaurant hours etc. Although, we did not drive, this location has many parking spots. The room was quite large (by Japanese standard) though it is important to note that you sleep on a futon on tatami mats (which we didn’t mind at all but might not be for everyone). The room was very clean and provided a great view! The only issue was that the bath didn’t drain so well. It is about a 7-minute walk to Gora station. Everyone keeps mentioning how all restaurants close at 6pm but if you’re ready to walk a short 15-minute north-east (towards Chokokunomori station – or take a one-stop train ride from Gora to Chokokunomori), you will find Kappeizushi which is some of the best sushi we had in Japan. Their Chirashi-zushi (rice topped with assorted sashimi) is absolutely delicious. This place closes at 9pm. Not too far from there, close to the Lawson, Gyoza Center offers amazing gyoza! This place closes at 8pm. Finally, if you are a foodie, Itoh dining by Nobu is a MUST and a 5-minute walk from e-Rooms. We also recommend visiting the Open-Air Museum. We really enjoyed it! It’s a 20-minute walk from e-rooms (or one-stop train ride away). We STRONGLY recommend getting the Hakone Free Pass. This pass can be purchased from any Odakyu stations and offers unlimited usage of the Hakone Tozan Railway (Odawara-Gora), the Souzan Cablecar and Hakone Ropeway between Gora to Togendai, the Hakone Boats on Lake Ashinoko, and most buses. We fell in love with Hakone and e-Rooms provided a very comfortable and enjoyable stay!

Big ryokan-style hotel surrounded by nature (it’s next to a golf course). The room is a good size, living area by the window looking out to the green of the golf course, another living area inside where the beds will be made for you at night and with separate bathroom and toilet. All rooms are provided with yukata which we worn thoughout our stay. Onsen was excellent, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor. Will definitely recommend this hotel.

After been to Japan for countless times, this facility is among the best hotels I've lived and probably the best ryokan in the region. Definitely recommended.

Simply put . . . Loved it! Being our first time traveling to Hakone and bringing a baby along, we were expecting a nightmare traveling by public transportation to Hakone. But instead, it wasn't so bad at all. What made our stay Hakone Pax Yoshino even better was that the front desk service was more than expected. Upon arrival I had requested that if it was possible to have one large bed instead of two separate beds. Initially they said it was impossible because their rooms are not set up that way. However after seeing that we were pushing along a baby stroller, they decided to go and have a look at the room to see if it was at all possible. After about five ten minutes later they came back and said yes, it was possible and that we can go up to our room now. To help us with our troubles, the man that helped us check-in also came along and helped with our luggage. Once we went up to our room, we were so happy to find that they had already pushed the beds together and everything was set-up correctly for us! A simple yet close to heart service! The only negative that we have is that the in-room shower was actually outside - meaning it was still our private shower but it was located next to the nice private outside onsen tub! How were we to give our baby a bath in the winter?! For adults it was fine and part of the experience but for a baby, it would not do. Therefore the only solution was to give our baby his bath in the public hot bath room. This was the only not so convenient aspect of our stay. But other than that, I would recommend this hotel for the nice hospitality, quality food, and simple private bath!

Great stay at Kisenso. We were welcomed by the staff and showed to our room. I booked the 'Japanese Style without Bathroom - Main Tower', however was pleasantly surprised that there was a connecting private toilet with a sink. The only showers are at the public and private onsen. The staff will give you a 20-30min time slot every day to use the private onsen. The room itself was simple and pleasant. They move the dining table and chairs to the side after dinner in order to lay out the futons to sleep on. In the morning, they pack up the futons again and move the dining table back to the middle of the room so you can have your breakfast there. Pros: - Private onsen was great, especially during the winter. - Short walk to Hakone Yumoto station which is very convenient and easy to lug a big suitcase to and from the station. Cons: - The walls are thin and we heard our neighbours having a good time in the middle of the night. - Food presentation was great and some dishes were nice, but I wasn't blown away by them. Overall a good stay at Kisenso.

Kajikaso was a quite aged hotel full of history. Located in Hakone, which was featured in Hachiko movie, the hotel was located in a serene and surrounded by picturesque mountain and sceneries. Highlight of this hotel was the caretaker lady, which will see your every needs, and also the onsen, which best enjoyed outdoor. And then when you entered the room after enjoying a nice hot soak, you will be greeted by river sound just right outside your window, which made us sleep very soundly. Love this hotel and absolutely recommend it to everyone who would love to visit Japan.
