"The hotel staff was helpful, from asking the restaurant for specially prepared ginger honey lemon tea, to helping me find over rhe counter medicine for cold...super helpful. The following day, the even provided a complimentary shuttle ti the airport although airport is just a walking distance away (easy for those with less load). Place is so clean and quiet! I'd recommend it to friends who are staying long in Kathmandu."

"There are a lot of run down hotels in Kathmandu, but Hotel Sabrina is very new and really well made and worth the price. Our kids really enjoyed the roof top pool and I appreciated the filtered air conditioning. The location is nice, close enough by bus or taxi to easily get to Thamal every day, yet far enough out to be away from the worst of the traffic and pollution. And the staff are extremely friendly, competent, and helpful. I really can't say enough good things about Hotel Sabrina. We have traveled a lot and it is probably our favorite place we have stayed, it's a little oasis. Ross S., Colorado, USA."

"We arrived on time but waited for two hours because the local agent of Agoda in Kathmandu didn't make the booking/reservation on Crown Plaza's site. Crown Plaza was saying that they cannot view our booking coz it was not appearing in their system. We waited and they served us with refreshment while waiting. The view outside the hotel is breathtaking. Plus the interiors of the hotel was great too."

"Dom is a oasis in the middle of Kathmandu situated down small ally it was quite, clean and welcoming. My sister and I stayed twice ,before and after our trek and both times were greated with friendly smiles. The airport pick up was a total nightmare with mad confusion by the hotel driver.was very taken back by the harshness of the driver and having to tip his friend for doing nothing.finally I arrived at the dom himalya and was given a beautiful banana lapi and cool face washer.the reception lady then came at me with a bill I was to pay that was three times the amount agoda deal was and in us dollars. She told me that this was because of the agoda fees etc.i informed them I was not paying that amount and would sort it later. For the next 2 days the reception lady avoided me and brushed off paying until I left.long story short. they had already debtit my credit card the amount without my authority. The reception staff gave me every excuse you could think off. This left a real bad taste in my mouth an stressed about who else had my credit card number as it was just pinned to a board on a post it... Upon checking my credit card account in Australia I discovered I had been over charged over $250 aud and didn't even return my emails to deal with the matter. They have said they will refund me but am still waiting. Fantastic hotel but unprofessional reception staff..."

"I booked this place for 4 nights a couple of years ago after trying other hotels in the Thamel area and decided that this was by far the best of them all. Stayed here again a total of 7 nights on my 4 week holiday in Nepal earlier this month and once again was not disappointed. It really is a haven of peace and tranquillity in the chaos that can be Thamel. As the name suggests, all the rooms are suites (I think) with a separate bedroom and living room. The one I stayed in was huge, I opened the door and had to laugh, it’s the biggest room I’ve ever stayed in. Being a solo traveller I felt a little guilty having so much space. But after staying in some pretty awful rooms elsewhere in Nepal the guilt lasted only seconds. It even had a kitchen which was very useful, especially the fridge. Best of all was the amazingly comfy bed and duvet, I felt like royalty. The bathroom is between the bedroom and living room and is wet-room style with a great shower and almost instant hot water. The breakfast room is in the nightclub up on the top floor. Usually there is a choice of 3 set breakfasts, veg, non-veg and Nepali and occasionally an all you can eat buffet of everything. The choices are amazing and even the set meals are way too much for one person to manage. My only slight complaint is that when the nightclub is open it can get a little noisy especially the clicking of high heels on the dance floor. I think it only operates occasionally as in my time there it only bothered me twice, though it’s more amusing than annoying and didn’t prevent me from getting to sleep. All in all a great place to stay in Kathmandu. Amazingly helpful front of house staff, great breakfast, good WiFi availability, spacious and spotlessly clean rooms and close to everything that happens in Kathmandu. 10/10. "

More about Kathmandu

Kathmandu has always been a popular and fascinating destination among international travelers. Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu is home to important Buddhist and Hindu sites, as well as a cultural distinctiveness that begs to be explored.

The neighborhood of Thamel is definitely one of Kathmandu’s most famous districts, and a favorite among backpackers and budget travelers as it features much of the city’s affordable hotels and many shopping and dining options.

Kathmandu’s authentic neighborhoods are tucked into back alleys away from the tourist enclaves, and venturing out to these areas will be a culturally rewarding experience. A short walk or rickshaw ride will lead to quiet Buddhist temples, each with their own history and interesting artifacts such as the Boudhanath Stupa. Historic neighborhoods in the old town give the distinct impression that little has changed in the last several hundred years.

The best place to begin a city tour is at Durbar Square, which was once home to the royal palace. This neighborhood dates to the 1600s and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. About a century ago, the actual palace was relocated to Narayanhiti, an elite district with a variety of many five-star accommodations in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airportis the national gate of entry, and the only international airport in the country.
