Kuantan used to be a quiet town but thanks to the various universities and education institute, there has been a large influx of people making Kuantan their second home.
Kuantan is a great city to stay. You can find great cheap seafood restaurants at Tanjung Lumpur and go for sightseeing at Teluk Cempedak.
All is good except for the terrible traffic and of course, bauxite mining that turned most of the road to bright orange.
Very serious "Red pollution" around the city, especially near the Kuantan Port. My whole car turn red when entering into this "Red City".
i love to go and buy fresh fis in the morning at pasar borong senangin. u can cheap and fresh seafood here.
Some of the beaches in Kuantan are nice. Sungai Lembing is fine for those nature seekers, the rainbow waterfalls is worth to visit, but need to be physically fit.

Its best to travel in groups at least you can create your own activity and fun at night especially when there is no night life here

This first impression of Kuantan while driving in from KL was red dust. This is something I don't see in the places I've been to in Malaysia.
It's a small city famous for it's Teluk chempedak and Cherating beaches. Club Med is located in Cherating.
We actually traveling to Kuantan to visit our brother who teaches in UIAM. However, we managed to stay for a few hours at Teluk Cempedak and the kids loves the beach very much

Relaxing for just a few nights is acceptable. More than that you might be boring and the only main attraction is nearby to Teluk Chempedak Bay.

A city that really does not have much to offer. So find a hotel that you can lock yourself and bring a pack of DVDs and cards to play with.
The worth places about Kuantan: 1) The beach, Pantai Balok. One of the best beach in Malaysia. It's windy soundly wave of sea is a place to feel peace.
They have a nice food here, but the price is not cheap, I would say cost of living is quite high here.
