Kunming hotels & places to stay

We booked 2 rooms and stayed 5 nights. Everything was over expectation. Hotel is well maintained very clean, excellent breakfast buffet with superb view!! Special thanks to the house keeping staffs who cleaned our rooms. Everyday we come back to clean n nicely made up space. Each lady is responsible to clean the entire floor with 15-20mins per room and does a really amazing job. Thank you Rong Liu (41st floor) and Pu Yan Jun (44th floor) !! We recommend Sofitel Kunming any day !!

I was very pleased with my stay at the Grand Kunming Hotel, I can say that I have zero complaints and would stay there next time in Kunming or where ever I see their name I will book a room.I can also recommend their lobby restaurant.

A hidden gem in Kunming, far away from busy city life a grate place to relax and chill out, good contemporary tropical design paradise, nice large room and super amenity for all...

So convenient to eating and souvenir shops. 10 mins walking distance to Kunming Train station. Airport bus shuttles are available at the entrance of the hotel and fare is Yuan 25/pax. The staff is friendly and some speak English. We have a wonderful trip and would highly recommend tourists to stay in this hotel.

Hotel nicely located by Kunming South Railway Station, less than 15 minutes away by taxi cab. Clean, awesome breakfast. My only problem is that there is a shuttle to the railway station in the morning that supposedly leaves at 6:45, 7:15 and 7:30 but you have to make a reservation. It was not said anywhere on the flyer that was posted in the lobby. It was fortunate I went and ask reception at 6am where to wait for the shuttle just to be told I needed a reservation. I freaked out as my train was departing at 7:38am and had no way to get there. I asked the hotel to call me a taxi and for the taxi to be ready at 6:45am. My request was made at 6am. By 6:30am I returned to receptionist to ensure I would get my taxi. They were still working to get me a taxi. I am not sure what happened but they finally put me and my 4 friends in a hotel shuttle to the railway station for 50 yuan for all of five of us and our luggage. All of this was done through google translate.

Very nice hotel in Kunming. Good location and all the facilities you'd expect in a 5 Star. Particularly like the gym and bar..

The Silver Chest Boutique Hotel has absolutely beautiful grounds and rooms. The location is excellent--it is based in the middle of Kunming's Old Town, close to lovely shops, bars and restaurants. The staff has limited English, but still provided excellent service (e.g., transportation to various local and not so local (i.e., Stone Forest) tourist locations). They purchased train tickets to Dali & Lijiang for us, drove us to the train station & ensured we got to the correct track. Mark, the owner, gave us exceptional personal attention and even helped my husband and I celebrate my birthday with a special dinner. It was a memorable celebration and fabulous stay. Highly recommended to travelers who wish to experience historic Kunming!

That was a heavy raining day in Kunming so I decided to stay at the Hostel~ The room is comfy and clean although there s a slightly smelly as my room is closed to the garage outside~ I guess it only happens to Room 105~so I jus closed the window and its fine~ and most of the time I spent on reading book at the Western style Cafe~the atmostphere with the soft music there s welcoming and comfy~I also had my dinner and breakfast there~ abit higher than the average price in towns in China~ however they can handle western cusion well and there had vegiterian choices~which s surprisingly good!

we were pleasantly surprised with the excellent customer services upon checking in, without mentioning our special request in our booking, the reception gave us the type of room we asked for. the only downside is that with most china hotels, all rooms at new era are smoking rooms. the room we were in was spacious and clean, the bathroom was clean with a shower in a bath tub and shower curtain design. our bed was turned down after we came back later in the evening. the hotel provides free wired and wifi internet services. the tv even had hbo channel! oh, and there is no annoying phone call at night asking if you want a "companion" for the night (typical in most local hotels). the location is the main reason we picked this hotel. it is located right in the midst on kunming shopping district. if you are daring and wanted to try more local fares, cross the main road and you will have an array of local eateries and restaurants, cleanliness can be improved upon but food is good. the hotel provided free airport shuttle at different time of the day. we were driven in a honda accord and the driver was very courteous and the driving was safe. overall, this is an excellent hotel and it is highly recommended!

We loved this hotel! We ended up staying for 3 nights. The room is small but clean, great views from the 8th floor, huge and tasty chinese breakfast (though they do serve eggs, toast and coffee if you don't like noodles for brkfst) and the staff was super friendly even though they almost never understood what I was saying. Some of the best food in Kunming is right around the corner (left out of the hotel and immediately left again). Skip the first 3 (dog and oyster joints) and try the amazing soup dumplings, dai food, Chinese Muslim food and local Yunan classics on this little road. Lots of picture menus! After diner you can check out the lovely river park where competing groups blast music for their square dancing/tai chi/hip hop evening exercise. We stayed at 3 other places in Kunming and this was our favorite, and the room was under $25!

I attend an academic conference at Kunming Golden Eagle Summit Hotel. The service was excellent with very good location where you may easily take a MRT for traveling. Also the famous Zhing-An Temple, lasting for more than 1000 years, is right next to the corner of the hotel. I enjoyed the travel very much and would definitely stay at Kunming Golden Eagle Summit Hotel for my next visit of Shanghai.

This hotel was hard to find...the taxi driver dropped us off at the Plateau Pearl Group and when we tried to check in, we were told that was not a hotel. The girl there was very nice and called us an uber using her phone. We paid her cash and she made sure to tell the driver to take us to the hotel. Apparently this happens all the time as there are other businesses with similar names in proximity including a large mall. The hotel was not close by the airport as expected, about 40 minutes away. Lots of food vendor close by. Room were adequate. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful, but I was disappointed when I was told that they could not make taxi reservation for me. I arranged my own transportation to airport using an application called China Taxi. This was my first time in China and learned a lot as to what to expect and not to expect. I didn't like the location of this hotel and would not stay there again.

We stayed there for 1 night on a sightseeing trip. The front office was helpful helping us to figure out the right bus station to go to Shilin (which is bit out of town) and spoke English well. However, as for sightseeing in Kunming, we realized that the area around Green lake would have been nicer

This was a great place to stay in Kunming. Rather easy to find and in a location close to public transportation. It was easy to get any where we wanted because the bus stops were just around the corner. The room was very large and clean. The staff were very helpful and nice. They spoke some English, but that has never been a problem for us even though we speak only a tiny bit of Chinese. They helped us get a taxi to the airport, too. We stayed during January and it was cold, but our bed had an electric blanket and they gave us a space heater to use for a while to heat up our room. Try this place out if you want to be in a community area, but with access to public transportation.

the room is very clean n good location . a lot of shopping arround n food. i like the best is the roasted duck . will stay here again when my next trip in kunming.

If you can't communicate in Chinese, this is the best place for you. The hostel can provide the information for you such as map, bus No,, photos, brochure, and tour booking. We got the all convenience from here, and easy to go to the interesting place.From train station, you can take a bus No.64 and take off at Kunming daily bus stop (about 20 minutes), and then you walk backward to the small road, turn left, and go through the park. After that you see the another road, please turn left and go straight on, you will see the yellow building in your left. Go there and contact staff.

Good breakfast spread, guest relation Officer can speak & understand English. Hotel is within walking distance of Kunming Metro station (Jiaosanqiao?). Taxi fare was only 10 Yuan from nearby shopping & pedestrian area (~ 2 km away, West of Hotel). Unfortunately, we were charged 10 Yuan for a “lost” ashtray during check out. Somehow, it went missing & we specifically asked for a non-smoking room.

Good for a short stay if you are in Kunming. Room a little on the small side but i was upgraded on the two occasions I stayed at the hotel to a room facing off the main road so it was quiet and got some good rest. Located pretty much halfway between the Nan Ping Street city centre and Xiao Xi Men where there is a Walmart.

The hotel is up to standard as usual cleanliness is perfect no complain, can take airport bus line 6 and drop off at kunming hotel, its just opposite the drop off point, about 35-45mins. The bell boy is very attentive and extremely helpful.

We traveled from Lijiang to Kunming via overnight train. The train arrived at 6am and we arrive at the hotel at 7am. Surprisingly, the hotel allowed us to check-in and we could take a rest before experiencing Kunming. It was very nice. Without that early check-in, we couldn't take a rest and would not have enjoyed Kunming so much. The hotel was conveniently located at the downtown and was only 5-10min walk from the busiest district of Kunming. Nice location. The hotel room was clean and price was reasonable, though that price would actually be high with the price standard at Kunming. But that hotel was fairly high-class and convenient in Kunming nevertheless. When we checked-in in that morning, we were given two piece of apples as gift. Warm reception. We thought there were no breakfast as indicated at Agoda but when we checked-in, we were given breakfast coupon as well. Surprise Would surely consider that hotel again.

From the airport in new Kunming, it is far. The hotel which is on the location for about 30 minutes by taxi.In an airport and a hotel, English is not understood mostly. I can't recommend to those who stay by transit. it was a big hotel, nobody was staying except us. And only for two staff. It was a strange hotel.feel like ghost hotel...It is true that other people are writing the review.There is no good reason to stay here in transit. I will not stay again.

One of the cheapest hotels in Kunming. Location is reasonably central and a 20min walk to the Green Lake. Caters for mainly Chinese business men with very few tourists. First night was put in a room which was quite dark and dusty with no hot water. Was moved to a different room which was a little brighter, clean, with hot water and internet access (for 15rmb a day). Internet access was via lan and reasonable fast and reliable. Had breakfast in the hotel each day and was a little annoyed that people smoking over the buffet was not better policed. Ash in food is not the same as cracked pepper. Dinner in the hotel is a bit of a rip-off but to be expected for a hotel restaurant. Cost 69rmb and basically the same sort of buffet as the breakfast with a few extra dishes.

When we arrived we were told that we don't sleep in the new and main building, but in the old one across the street which we could not see from the main building. This is what we booked they said. It was quite late in the night and we didn't want to walk to the other building. We piad additional 200 RMB to stay in the main building. The rooms were ok. The breakfast very Chinese and thd breakfast hall very cold. Staff was ok but not great hospitality.

This place is $27. For that money, it's worth getting a hot shower, and a good rest. I had 12 hour layover in Kunming, and I really wanted to get a good shower and place that I can lay before another 12 hour flight. I was a little skeptical after reading all the reviews, but hey I'm glad I give it a shot. When I arrived at Kunming Airport, I went to the information centre, and I gave the guy the hotel's info and their phone number. He called them for me, and a guy from the hotel came to pick me up in 20 minutes. They paid for the toll fee, and it was absolutely free. They also offered airport drop off for free. It's not a super nice bus, so don't expect fancy bus. The hotel's also not 5 star hotel, but it has hot shower, a decent bed, and a clean toilet (no smell)- you will appreciate this after using toilet at the airport! MAKE SURE YOU SCREENSHOT ALL THE INFO! - your connecting flight info & the hotel's address and phone number, cuz wifi doesn't work at the airport.

Well appointed room for a 4* Chinese management hotel in Kunming, breakfast is better than 5* hotel in Kunming, well located to all tourist attractions: museum, park, old flower and bird market. Recommended for a short stay, room a bit small still acceptable for the price.

I have always choose Ibis as my first choice hotel because of its strategic location, cleanliness and sleek design. Ibis Styles Kunming Nanping is located in the city center, besides Zara and about 15 minutes walk to pedestrian street. However, my driver has to park at a nearby carpark on the first night we checked in because there was no parking lot. Fortunately, he was able to park outside Ibis after getting the parking coupon. The toilet is separated from the shower area. It has a heater seat and bidet like toilets in Japan. I would not recommend this hotel to stayers travelling with friends because there is no privacy as the toilet glass wall is the frosted type. Nevertheless, this hotel is value for money and great for families.

The hotel is not that closed to airport as it masked. The right location is 25.048973,102.887316 and takes 20minutes from Airport by car, can not be walk to. The owner is very kind and helpful. He can speak English well. I took this hotel because they provide free Airport pickup to hotel and arrange shuttle bus pickup to Airport only 20Rmb/person. The room is fairly good if compare with price. Short stay is more than OK. My flight was 2:30am, but the owner pick me up with warm welcome, so appreciated.
