Traveler impressions of Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son is a typical, quaint Northern Thai Mountain town. English is not usually spoken, but I always manage to get what I need or want from the shops or at the large night market which is located around the pretty town lake.
MHS is a main stop on the MHS Loop Trip. A pleasant little town of 6000. not much there really. Doubt I'd ever bother to return.
ยังเป็นเมืองที่ยังน่ามาพัก เงียบยังมีเอกลักษณ์ แม้จะดูเจริญขึ้นกว่าเก่า มีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางธรรมชาติหลายที่
Not so many tourists come here yet, which is nice but also means local people many of them can`t speak English.
Although Mae Hong son is a small province but it has many place to visit such as a moutains, hotspring, temple a village and has many activities you can do.
I rode a larger motorbike from Chaing Mai to Pai and later to Mae Hong Son, called the Mae Hong Son Loop.
Old small City. Wondnerful People. good Thai food. Close to Bhuddhist shrines. Lakes were a great attraction, especially for photography.
Could hardly see Mae Hong Son: the forest was burning everywhere and the town was covered in thick smoke.
Do not miss sun set from Doi Gong Moo, mist on the lake in the morning, day trip to Ban Ruk Thai and Ruan Thai, ride on long tail boat to Burma border and Long Neck Karen Village, people watching at local market and Sunday market.
The city is accessible by road and air. Good for sightseeing cultural and living of hill tribe people
Mae Hong Son is a city in the mist. One night in Pai, one night in Pang Ung and another night in the city would be perfect!
The Mea Hong Son is a nice place of nature traveling and have a nice temples that differance from other province of Thailand
It's a city for city retreat! It's cooling, relaxing and easy access to all places coz it's a small town.
Beautiful and scenic with friendly inhabitants. Near the border wtih Burma so there are many Hilltribe peoples and ethnic diversity.
Mae Hong Son is a lovely area but requires a vehicle to fully explore the beautiful surrounding attractions.
Good place to stop when going in the fall to view wildflowers. The temple at the top of the hill is beautiful.
It's remote town in Thailand, about 6 hours drive from Chiang Mai, most way on the mountains. Maybe because of this reason, there are not so many visitors and keep quiet which is nice to us, and people there is friendly, and keep the natural way that we like.
For a rewarding experience, volunteer on the border as an educator or other resource person for the Karenni Burmese refugees.
Mae Hong Son is very remote and one of the more quiet province in Thailand. I love the city & main square around the lake & temple.
Best trip: drive up to Mountain Microwave, approx. 40km south of Mae Hong Son. Small winding road, 360° panoramic view on a clear day on an altitude of approx.
First and foremost, MHS is a gorgeous place situated IN the mountains. The views from on high are breathtaking.
It was a small and quiet town far away from Chiengmai.Mae Hong son offer a lot of outdoor activity such as national park and ranger park.
This is small town and slow life. very very beautyful place. i like weather in here.love mountain.Once time must go to here^^
It has its' charm, the people are the asset of the city, they are friendly and ever so willing to help, they know what a tourist would like to see and visit.
There is a walking market every night in the middle of town in front of the Gamta Hotel that runs down the street and around the lake.
A very beautiful city with lots of very interesting Temples. Night market at the Lake and also Night bazaar in the town centre.
good street food. safe town for walking around. good for tours in the surrounding countryside. no pushy street sellers.
Mae Hong Son was ok. There wasn't a lot of things to do here. Our family did enjoy hiking up to the top of a waterfall and other outdoor activities, but the downtown area left a lot to be desired.
