we arrived at the hotel after a long sri lanka tour and we were so relaxed once we realized we arrived one of the treasury boxes of sri lanka. we were welcomed with a refreshing fresh juice drink that was lifesaving after our tiring way from kandy to the hotel. our room was very comfortable, clean with nice colonial design. we just simply loved it. it was great that t...

It was just a short 4D3N at Weligama but it was one of the best place i've visited after being to so many countries. It was an unforgettable experience for us in Sri Lanka, and of course, the main reason is because of W15. All the staff are so friendly and responsive, the place is so clean n relaxing, people around are so helpful n polite. The staff's hospitality is ex...

Really was one of the best getaways I have had in Sri Lanka. The property consists of four 3 bedroom villas. I booked a garden suite which was very tastefully decorated as is the rest of the villa. Even though another room in the same villa was occupied I had the feeling of having the whole villa to my self. All my needs were met. Great room, great bathroom, kitch...

My mum and I stayed here for 3 nights and really, really did not want to leave. Everything little was perfect here; in years of travelling across the world, I've never found such a perfect hotel. Room: Big and airy with a huge bathroom. All the little touches were on hand (water, robes, safe etc.) and it was spotlessly clean. Beds were super comfortable and the balco...

This is one of the most fantastic hotel I had stayed in Sri Lanka. The seaview for the room is nice. The location is about 3km away from main beach of Mirissa but provide more privacy. The food in the hotel are the best I found in Mirissa. The staffs of hotel are all very nice. The room has all the facilities more than my needed. Really perfect for couple!

The hotel is almost 2-3km away from the Mirissa main beach, peaceful, quite and also easy access to the main street of Mirissa( if you have a driver, or its is easy to get a tuktuk) We was surprised when we walked into this place, very close to the beach and there were no reception area but a big open kitchen with a very friendly (and yet handsome) chef! We took the ...

No1 Mirissa is a new, stylish and upmarket boutique hotel/guest house perched on the rocks at the end of Marissa Beach. The location is fantastic with lovely views along the palm trees and down to the surfers in the water. We stayed there after moving on early from the very disappointing Talalla Retreat. The design of the rooms is comfortable and elegant, with lots...

Location - Twenty Two is roughly a 30 sec walk from the beach. Bang in the centre of Weligama. Perfect location to visit Mirissa and Galle. Rooms - Amazing ocean facing rooms ! Since tourism has taken a hit, some of the premium rooms were available at lesser prices. We took a chance and had a magnificent room booked. Spacious, balcony, overlooking the pool and the oce...

Excellent location just next to Mirissa beach, wich is by the way a very nice beach with few restaurant and bars. The room was really quiet and big, beds were confortable and the bathroom well equiped. Food in the buffet was good and changing every day. Big pool, friendly staff, excellent hotel. Wifi is not widely available. Only public area are well covered. Our show...

The best hotel in Sri Lanka during my trip. Maybe the best one i have ever stayed. The staffs are very friendly. THe manager is a very very nice guy. The room is wonderful. The decoration is amazing. The breakfast is delicous...everything is so so good. We will come back again for sure!

If you're looking for a calm&peaceful place in Southern Sri Lanka, this is a perfect place for you. This luxurious hotel only has 8 rooms and its neighbor hotels are all boutique hotels running by a same company. Our room was spacious and clean, and the view was great as well. They have restaurant&bar, spa (with an experienced massage therapist) , and a cute little po...

Great hotel, very clean, large room with windows that brighten the room. Bathroom is large and very nice. Bed was large and had a firmer matress. This is a really quiet and nice place to stay.It locates in the jungle. The room is so great, the water was strong and warm enough. Two pools.SUCH A GREAT PLACE TOO STAY!The air is so nice up in the mountain. From here to mirissa beach costs 250 Rupees, but the Tuk Tuk drivers always want to charge at least 400 Rupees. Definitely need to bargain with them.Anyways, Lots of w...

During our vacation through Sri Lanka, we opted for one night in Mirissa and Handagedara Resort, as we stopped in the area to go whale-watching. Our previous hotels were fine, but lacking in some of the finer touches, but when we arrived here, we found ourselves at a first-class establishment, with the details taken care of with a professional touch. Greeted warmly b...

During my time in Sri Lanka I found the country beautiful and the people friendly, but perhaps with truly high-end properties still in short-supply service has generally fallen short of what I'd expect from say Bali or Tokyo. Having said that, the Marriott was the exception - while I found the pool area a bit crowded and had some other minor issues, the hotel's staff w...

- It was a pleasant stay at this resort. I will definitely come back here again & it's highly recommended to whoever who is going to Mirissa. - Location is strategic, the beach is just across the road and there are many restaurants nearby the resort - The host is very flexible in the sense that he allows us to have late checkout without any surcharge. This is really a ...

Brizo is a luxury hotel within a very short walk of Weligama town and beach. We had a warm reception with the clerks tending to our bags. Our room was luxurious and well decorated with all the amenities we needed. Secure storage, AC, separate shower/ toilet, balcony spanning two walls (floor to ceiling windows), extremely comfortable bedding and cushioning throughout. ...

its nice small hotel owned and manged by srilankan family. mirissa beach is with in 1 minute walk. we had a nice sri lankan and European combined breakfast as per our request and was very delicious. owners and management are very helpful and would make sure you will have your holiday in style. We stayed here for a few nights while finding a longer term place to stay, the rooms are large and spacious as are the bathrooms. They are modern, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is very reasonably priced and you get a lot of food for breakfast so it's worth getting breakfast included. The staff are sweet and helpful. This is Sri Lanka so don't expect perfect se...

First we came here for couple days. Now we've been here for a week and not hurry to leave yet. Hotel is right next to the beach which is great place to learn surfing. The hotel itself is quite new with simple clean rooms with air-con (if you want to pay little extra). Customer service is excellent which makes you feel safe and comfortable. Hotel has also new swimming ...

The location is perfect - 2 min walk to the beach, turtle bay, coconut hill,a few dissent restaurants nearby , scooter rental near by . The hotel - we searched a-lot for a good hotel in mirissa beach and we found this one, the price is a bit too expensive but the other hotels were just bad. The hotel is new and beautiful, clean, the rooms are nice and clean and have a g...

Superb breakfast - best we've had in srilanka. Simple, family run hotel with wonderful staff, an excellent pool and a great range of books to read/swap. We have a top room with excellent AC and a ceiling fan and a balcony that looks over palm trees out to the ocean. Easy walk to the beach and we love that all the beach cafes have free loungers - great beach. The only d...

The stay at Latheena was fantastic. It was our first night in Sri Lanka (as well as first time in the country) and we weren't quite sure what to expect. Looking in retrospective, the room was actually the biggest we've stayed during out 11 days travel in the country; also very neat and clean. The beach is awesome - being in Weligama as opposed to Mirissa means you have...

Loved our stay at Sea Star and Mirissa. The room was spacious and the view was incredible, spotting turtles below in the water. Great place to snorkel out the front, but visibility was poor when we went. The room was good but the ac and tv didnt work when we got there. The staff quickly and efficiently made sure everything worked before they let us settle in. A grea...

Probably one of the best places we've stayed in Sri Lanka and this is our 2nd trip. A 5 minute walk from the main road and beach but this didn't affect our enjoyment of the beach. A very clean, well maintained property in a peaceful spot with the rear overlooking very green and lush agricultural land. Owner and sons very much hands on and are very pleasant with a good s...

We absolutely loved D Canal. The house is beautifully appointed and set in stunning tropical gardens. There are regular visits from wildlife including peacocks, monkeys, mongoose and kingfishers. Breakfast is fabulous and the free tuk tuk transfers to the main road is a great touch. We had such a relaxing stay at D Canal. I could move in! Would highly recommend to oth...

We spent two nights here and moved out earlier mainly due to the juice bar next door playing really loud music late at night. The staff was lovely, breakfast great but the room (superior chalet) was very small and felt quiet outdated. Great location right on Mirissa beach and free rent of body boards

We were very happy by our choice of Lemazone, Inn as the place to spend two nights during our visit to Sri Lanka. The accommodation is barely 50 m from the beach and next to the most popular hanging out place, Zephyr. The rooms are decently sized, clean and the bathroom has a separate zone for the shower (this was missing at one of the places we stayed). Air conditioni...

We had a great stay at the Coral Beach Hotel. We actually wanted to stay for 2 nights only, but ended up staying for 6 nights in total during our Sri Lanka trip. The location is awesome, right on the beach. We had a seaview room, which was nice. The room itself is small and the bathroom could be cleaner, but as we didn't spend much time in the room that was fine. The ...

This is a great place, where the owners will make you feel like a family member. I had been traveling for quite a while when I arrived there and I had asked many not-so-sommon requests. The guys did all for me with a smile on their face. At the beginning they told me that I could not stay in the room that I booked (6people room) and they put me in this huge 8 people do...

We don’t usually bother to write reviews, but felt compelled to for Sun Bird Eco Guest House. This is a new, cozy guesthouse situated a 5 minute walk from the hustle bustle of Mirissa Beach in a tranquil garden setting. It’s run by Sarath and his delightful family who go above and beyond to ensure your stay is as easy and relaxing as possible. The rooms are a great s...

This place is so nice, it makes me want to go back to Mirissa just to stay there again. I stayed in the Villa, which is spaceous for a single traveller. The bathroom has all it needs, the floor looks normal grey when it is dry, but gets mesmerizing colours when it gets wet, which it does frequently of course! The villa has a nice porch towards the open garden. During ...

Thanks very much to the owner and his wife for all their hospitality, friendliness and help. Also tasty dinners, first class service! Room was clean, big and comfy as well as whole house. Wee terrace outside you could chat with other co- guests, if you wished to All area is so beautiful and renting a motorbike or getting around with tuk tuk, not a problem. We only boo...

About a 20min walk from main railway station and main bus station and town centre slightly off the beaten track but nice clean rooms and bathroom. Mosquito net provided but no a/c so the room can get very hot even with the fan on full. A bit hard to find as there is no sign on the outside so I had to ask around the neighbours. Friendly hosts with a nice little dog. Han...

I stayed in the one bedroomed apartment for two days. This is more of a homestay than hotel, though you have a separate private apartment. The family that owns the apartment were brilliant. The value for money excellent and the apartment perfect fro my needs.

This guesthouse is owned by a nice local family. I originally booked for 2 nights but ended up to stay for 9 nights. The room is simple yet very clean. There is also shared kitchen where we can prep simple meals. You can even ask Kumudu to cook for your meals as well. She is very good cook. I tried her breakfast($2.5) and dinner($3.5)a few times while I was staying. Al...

The stay would be good if they didn't push me more than five time selling a whale watching tour in one day. Sri Lanka men should really manage themselves to not harass single foreign female traverlers. Keep hitting on them or asking private questions is NOT ACCEPTABLE! If you want to make a business successful, learn the manners!

Stayed here for 2 nights, just enjoying the nearby beach. The staff was very friendly, the food served was very delicious. The staff was very helpful to us, it was raining when we had to leave to the next place, and they drove us in their tuktuk to Mirissa for a very reasonable price, we had a lot of trouble finding the place, but the driver was trying really hard to a...

We had the best 3 days at this place. A small hotel runned by a lovely local family. 3 delicate rooms with stunning paddy field view. Mirissa Beach is just a few minutters away in tuktuk - the owner arranged tuktuk for 1.25 dollar each way. Best breakfast in Sri Lanka so far and we even got afternoon tea everyday. We really felt at home. Clean, a great night sleep and...

Quiet location with lovely gardens, and although not very near the beach (about 4 kilometers away) it is on a regular bus route to and from the beach, and Damith (the owner) has a tuk tuk and was very obliging about running around when needed. This is a very clean house with efficient air con and fans, brand new bathrooms and comfortable beds. Not luxurious, but with e...

The room was clean and spacious. It is located between the beach and the main road (bus stop). Hostel owner arranged my whale watching tour, dinner and breakfast. I love the Kottu roti that they got for me for dinner. He also suggested the snake farm tour (very interesting) which I went to instead of the Traditional fishermen. There was no wifi in the room so I went to...

Me and my mother reserved this place for two nights and end up staying there for six nights, till the end of our travel in Sri Lanka. For us, Weligama was a starting point for all points of interest in the south and west of Sri Lanka and it was actually this place that we didn't want to leave... Our stay here was the best one we experienced in that country hands down. ...

We booked and prepaid almost 2 weeks. The management quite grumpy and doesn't speak in English. That place is not a hotel ! Only an extended family house in terrible way. The stairs to upstairs more than life-threatening. The breakfast is poor the services is unprofessional. for example. There is not enough glass, incredibly overused the towels. Wet and moldy walls ...

Pros: Quiet location away from the street, great value for money, breakfast included, comfortable bed, mosquito net, large bathroom and a very friendly host. They let us borrow utensils so we could buy fruit and food and eat at the beach. Cons: Minor issues only. Wi-Fi was spotty, but that may have been because of a storm. We would have liked a Sri Lankan breakfast in...

We stayes for 3 nights in a private air con double and it was absolute bliss. The room was immaculate, large and comfortable and exceeded our every expectation. JJ's is run by an Australian and the welcome map and extensive infomration he can provide will make your stay, it is above and beyond anything we recieved anywhere in Sri Lanka. The breakfast is made fresh ...

Everything were very good. Nice location near the bus stop and about 5-10min to the perfect Mirissa beach. There is a place for exchange money on the first floor. The room was clean and nice too, but if you take a room with a/c it will be buch more comfortable. The stuff are very friendly and welcoming and the hostess is just awesome women!!! She was so kind, friendly ...

VERY comfortable bed and the nicest homestay room we've had in Sri Lanka. Spacious, clean and quiet. Views of elephants and monkeys right from the front balcony. Extremely friendly family that will make you feel at home and make you great food as well! Very close to the park. Highly recommend!

Stayed four nights here and were absolutely happy with everything! Clean room with big bed and clean bathroom. Mosquito net over the bead and good fan! 300 meters to Mirissa Beach! Best thing about the stay was the family who owns the place. Very nice couple who went above and beyond to make our stay amazing! Cooked local breakfast and if you asked for it the day befo...
It is really a pleasure to stay at Minara Guest House. We've been there for five nights and would have stayed longer if we could. A little outside of Mirissa (nice and quiet garden) but not too far to walk to "city center" and main beach (TukTuks will charge 100-200 LKR). The breakfast was the best we've had in Sri Lanka (every morning ceylon tea and different food,...

We enjoyed our stay in hostel first in Mirissa a lot! We booked 10 nights to have a base in Mirissa and explore the surrounding areas from there and we didn’t regret it! The hostel is driven by super nice young people who are always there to help and most importantly to keep the travelers together and entertained. There is something going on every day, either sunset ...

It's great to have a private beach at your disposal. What Parrot Fish Bay in Mirissa does is takes the amazing thing it has to create an unbelievable experience. Other hotels would have compromised on service just because they had that view Parrot Fish Bay boasts of. The staff was friendly; the food excellent. The beetroot soup and the string hoppers stood out. What ...

We really enjoyed our stay here. Very nice room with cold AC and good WiFi . The staff were very nice and welcoming. We LOVED our time at Kadolana Guest House and extended our stay from originally one night to four nights. Everything about this place is nice - simple and clean rooms (try to grab the one with the balcony, we had such nice moments out there), the jungle area with monkeys around who won’t bother you at all, the nice area to sit AND especially the amazing host family who...
Traveler impressions of Mirissa
Firstly, Mirissa is NOT a city. It is a location between a city, Matara and a town, Weligama. It is a tourist area, with the usual tourist shops and the highway from Colombo to Matara.
Great spot 3 hrs from Colombo! Grab a beach side hotel and enjoy the days relaxing on the beach and eating at the restaurants on the beach.
If you stay in Mirissa, I recommend that you visit Welligama for surfing. This would be a valuable trip if you are a beginner.
This once tranquil beach is now packed with subnets and is not somewhere to relax anymore. Great for groups wanting a good time as there are plenty of parties and late nights but not a place which offers a romantic break and peace and quiet.
mirissa is a wonderful place for relaxing. my boyfriend and me loved this place for its amazing beach.
Very laid-back, hassle-free, beautiful beach and bays around Mirissa. Not great for shopping but excellent for chilling and being in the sea.
There is not much to see in Mirissa, it's just a dusty little town with a few tourist shops. It's beaches are absolutely beautiful.
Nice beach, full of hotels, if you want to go party, go there. If you want to relax, 1 night here is enough.
Small beach but nice if you just walk a few houndred meters to the east to nice calm bays. Nothing to the village.
At night it is really great, there is a very good vibe among the people. Although they really need to clean up the beach, it is very poluted when you walk towards Matara.
Beautiful beaches but becoming more crowded. Good for surfing. The more pristine, isolated beaches can be found near Tangalle but there is little in the way of tourist facilities.
Make sure you visit the surf bar at the left side of the beach (looking at the beach) for great food and italian coffee.
Don't travel here alone unless you want to be lonely as the only people here seem to be couples or families.
Great beach - lots of bars and restaurants - but still really chilled out vibe walking along beach at night.

This hotel was a great little find, a couple of minutes walk from the beach. The owner is super helpful, offering commission-free advice and help with anything you'd like to book. Good hearty breakfast in the morning, and you can request a home cooked meal for dinner too! Highly recommended.

We stayed in Mirissa a for 3 nights! The owner was awesome, he recommended us places to eat and drink every day which were all fantastic and well priced for our budget. The staff and the ocean view is the best thing about this place. It’s a good 20 minutes away from all the action at Mirissa beach via TukTuk. The rooms lack the basic necessities (no hair dryer no tv etc). The overall feel of the place was nice, but a little unfinished. Good if you’re ok with being a bit remote and spending time with your own group.

Great if you want privacy, peace and quiet. The beach front is small but very pretty and good for a bit of paddling around. The hotel is basic but clean and the rooms are large. We walked to Mirissa beach (via beach then road) which took about 30-40 minutes. If you're getting a tuk-tuk, make sure you give the correct address in Thappawthha as there is another hotel wit...

More about Mirissa
The biggest attraction in Mirissa is arguably Mirissa Beach, which is especially popular among surfers and whale watching enthusiasts. There are other beaches scattered along the same coastline, so if one area seems too crowded especially for relaxation in the sand, it’s a smart idea to venture out further along the coastline.
Those who want a break from surfing and relaxing on the beach, a short trip to Weligama Bay is a welcome change of scenery. The small town is perfect for a relaxing walk along the coastline while shopping for handcrafted items and souvenirs, as well as fresh fish from the local fishermen. These are several small markets and places to get a refreshing beverage or snacks while shopping or watching the fishermen bring in their daily catch. There are several hotels on Weligama Beach, several of which are waterfront properties.
