Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa
Weligama Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"During my time in Sri Lanka I found the country beautiful and the people friendly, but perhaps with truly high-end properties still in short-supply service has generally fallen short of what I'd expect from say Bali or Tokyo. Having said that, the Marriott was the exception - while I found the pool area a bit crowded and had some other minor issues, the hotel's staff were beyond reproach. I had a particularly fond impression of Mr. Sandeep, the Executive Chef at Weligama Kitchen. On a related note, the food was also a highlight of our stay, we later visited Ministry of Crab in Colombo, lauded as one of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, and while the crabs were stellar, the other offerings were possibly edged by what I had sampled at Weligama Kitchen. "The location is perfect - 2 min walk to the beach, turtle bay, coconut hill,a few dissent restaurants nearby , scooter rental near by . The hotel - we searched a-lot for a good hotel in mirissa beach and we found this one, the price is a bit too expensive but the other hotels were just bad. The hotel is new and beautiful, clean, the rooms are nice and clean and have a great shower. Love the pool and the view! Breakfast - is ok to start the day especially with no good breakfast restaurants in the area. Staff- amazing and helpful, upgraded us to a better room. Overall, I’ll come back for sure"

Weligama Bay Resort

"we arrived at the hotel after a long sri lanka tour and we were so relaxed once we realized we arrived one of the treasury boxes of sri lanka. we were welcomed with a refreshing fresh juice drink that was lifesaving after our tiring way from kandy to the hotel. our room was very comfortable, clean with nice colonial design. we just simply loved it. it was great that the hotel offers free dvd for watching in case you decide to stay in. they also serve a buffet dinner for a very reasonable price with a great variety of food and their a la carte menu includes a wide selection of meals. the beach in this is really beautiful and quite long, it is perfect for walking or running. in case you would struggle with the transportation i advise to use the service of the hotel as they can arrange for you good drivers with good cars. the paid price is definitely worth it. Mirissa Beach Inn

"We stayed in Mirissa a for 3 nights! The owner was awesome, he recommended us places to eat and drink every day which were all fantastic and well priced for our budget. He cooked us a different breakfast to try everyday, we opted for the Sri Lankan breakys to try something different, highly recommended!!!! On our last night he even made us a seafood dinner which was probably our best meal we've eaten here, then organized our transport for us the following day. The hotel is fairly new with beautiful furnishings and nice bathrooms, the beds so comfortable! We very much enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be coming back for a visit!"

Garton's Cape Hotel
Midigama Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"Great location, beautiful view over the ocean. But I would only stay there with one of the sea-view rooms. Its not much around the hotel, but easy to take bus/tuk tuk to other restaurants or beaches. To merissa is about 20min, Unawatuna about 25min. We were thinking about staying closer to uawatuna, but solo glad we didn't. Mirissa is the closest nicest place to go for eating and drinking. The food is good and variety, but far from the best food we had in Sri Lanka, its anyways for us a bit boring to always eat at the hotel. Friendly staff, some not the best in english."

Number ONE Mirissa Hotel
Mirissa Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"No1 Mirissa is a new, stylish and upmarket boutique hotel/guest house perched on the rocks at the end of Marissa Beach. The location is fantastic with lovely views along the palm trees and down to the surfers in the water. We stayed there after moving on early from the very disappointing Talalla Retreat. The design of the rooms is comfortable and elegant, with lots of billowing white fabric, nice shower rooms and hand made beds. Very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is tasty, well cooked and remarkably reasonably priced; breakfast is great and the coffee (Nespresso to order) is by far the best we had in coffee-ruining Sri Lanka! However, the standout feature of the place is the customer service and drive to get things right. The owner Scott and manager Su are a constant presence in the background, unobtrusively anticipating and attending every guest need. They are friendly and approachable, full of both useful information and enjoyable conversation. The other front of house staff are a little inexperienced, as we found with many of Sri Lanka's resorts, but invariably charming, friendly and really keen to make a guest welcome. To finish icing this lovely cake, No1 could make access to the beach more convenient, add a little more privacy across the balconies and perhaps provide sofas in the rooms to allow sitting in the air-conned coolness during the midday heat. A couple of small things like cotton robes and coffee in the bedrooms would sugar the cherry on top. As it stands No1, while by no means cheap, is a wonderfully relaxed, luxurious and friendly place to spend a few days; we highly recommend it as the best place we enjoyed in a month in Sri Lanka, and really wish we'd had more than 2 nights there."

Mandara Resort Mirissa
Mirissa Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"We had a fantastic time at Mandara. Fabulous light spacious room with fantastic views of the sea. The food was delicious. The pool was spotlessly clean a well as the beach in front. A small hotel but lacked nothing for us. All of the staff were very kind, helpful and charming. We would not hesitate to stay at the Mandara again. A big thank you to all of the staff for looking after us so well. Having stayed at more than 10 different hotels in Sri Lanka, this is one of our favorites. "

Traveler impressions of Mirissa

More about Mirissa

The city of Mirissa is located in the Matara District of Sri Lanka’s southern province. This small city is best accessed by bus from bigger cities like Colombo, where the international airport is located. Once getting into Mirissa, the best way to get around is by foot, as it’s a very small town.

The biggest attraction in Mirissa is arguably Mirissa Beach, which is especially popular among surfers and whale watching enthusiasts. There are other beaches scattered along the same coastline, so if one area seems too crowded especially for relaxation in the sand, it’s a smart idea to venture out further along the coastline.

Those who want a break from surfing and relaxing on the beach, a short trip to Weligama Bay is a welcome change of scenery. The small town is perfect for a relaxing walk along the coastline while shopping for handcrafted items and souvenirs, as well as fresh fish from the local fishermen. These are several small markets and places to get a refreshing beverage or snacks while shopping or watching the fishermen bring in their daily catch. There are several hotels on Weligama Beach, several of which are waterfront properties.
