Best hotels & accommodations in Nagano

This was my second stay for another 3 nights. Would recommend booking the Superior Twin Room. Very much bigger at 30 sq m. Worth the extra $$. Very reasonable price for the quality of sleep you get. A real 4=-star hotel. Very convenient to book tickets for outstation. The Apico Highway bus office is just opposite. Booked my ticket to Togakushi Shrine (must do) Buy...

The hotel is just in front of the Nagano train station and bus terminal, which is very convenient. Many convenient stores and restaurant around the hotel. The room itself is quite spacious and fully equipped with air conditioner and hair dryer. The toilet is clean and has amenities. A few down things are -Laundry... No obvious coin washing machine and dryer in the b...

I booked 2 rooms for my family of 3 young children. Check-in was efficient and the receptionist even offer me non-smoking rooms upon noticing my kids. There are free amenities and drinks at the lobby. Location of this hotel is close to Nagano Station with many nearby shops and restaurants. The hotel rooms were quite spacious for Japanese standards, very clean and comfo...

We stayed 2 nights at this lovely hotel while travelling Japan. Nagano is a lovely smaller town and has many wonderful sights. Those snow capped mountains are everything!! The hotel staff at Nagano Tokyu Rei are delightful & very helpful. The hotel has a smoking room on the 4th floor for those not wanting to stay in a smoking room, but enjoy a cigarette. The hotel room...

Sadly we only stayed two nights at the Dormy Inn, because it was so relaxing and comfortable. The hot spring facilities on the top floor of the hotel were perfect for starting the day super early and relaxing after a long day exploring Nagano. The location of the hotel is also perfect for day trips because the train station is just around the corner. Overall one of the...

Breakfast restaurant on 16F has great view. This could be the best view from the breakfast restaurant among the hotels around Nagano station. I was so satisfied with the menu of the breakfast buffet which includes some of local food like Shinshu Soba and also several dishes can be treated as main menu. The hotel is bit far from the station compare with others, but the ...

I was surprised with this hotel when I reached there. Not as bad as I thought it was because I read there’s a lot of negative review about it. I stayed in the West Wing hotel. It was better as it’s nearer to Ichinose (1 bus stop away will be the night ski area, 2 bus stops away will be the food central). The rooms are decent. Hotel staffs are friendly. I did not try an...

Kokuya was the best accommodation that we stayed at in Japan during our three week stay over the holidays. While the price is a bit higher than some of the other properties in the area, we found it to be well deserved. Some of the highlights for us included: a) A personalized welcome, with the staff from the Ryokan coming to the room with us to show us its various f...

We had a great stay at the Sunroute hotel. The staff were great, the hotel was really clean and the location was amazing. It's a 2 minute walk from the JR station if you take the Mi Do Ri bridge exit (grabbing some amazing food on the way through!) and everywhere around Nagano is really accessible from this hotel. If I had another decision to make with hotels in Nag...

You can take Shinkansen train from Tokyo stn to Nagano stn, Smile Hotel is very near to the Nagano Stn, about 10 min walking distance. Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful, may be the room a bit old & small, but it is clean & comfortable. The Turist information center at the stn, if you need help. You may wish to go to visit Snow Monkey, you could go to Nagano station...

The staff was nice, informative, and accommodating. The hotel is old but clean. Remember that you are paying for the authentic Japanese Hot spring resort experience rather than a fancy room. Don't miss the outdoor hot spring and the traditional Japanese dinner! The 4-5 courses dinner was pricy but worth it, we even got a private room! We took out parents there and they...

Umm yeah, this motel will take a hefty bite into your wallet, but if you wanna splurge, this is a great location to do it. Onsen are amazing, dinners/brekkie awesome, service great - not all staff speak english, but they will call over the staff who do to assist. Snowed heavily, and they organized a minibus to take the guests to train station. Location is a few minutes...

Stayed 1 nite , however should have booked 2 nites but price rather hefty as we booked the room with own private bath. Rather rushed to visit the snow monkey at Jigokudani just with 1 nite. The hotel staff was so nice as to pick us up from Yudanaka station upon arrival by Nagano Dentetsu line , and thereafter dropped us at Jigokudani by 3pm. Snowing very heavily then ,...

The hotel is clearly visible from the Nagano station and only took 3 mins to go there from the station. There is a lift on the bridge which really helps if you're carrying a big luggage with you from Nagano station to the hotel. Room is very spacious and clean. There is 7-eleven just one beside the hotel. Location is great, Room is big, access is easy, It's a 5 stars ...

We stayed 2 nights at this ryokan towards the end of December 2017. The trip to the ryokan from Ueno Station in Tokyo took around three hours total, involving both a shinkansen train to Nagano Station followed by a 2nd local train up to Yamanouchi. This was the only taxing part of the trip. Once we got there, the staff was exceptionally warm and helpful, the kaisaki...

The hotel has really good location and very easy to find. Price is considered okay not very cheap. Can easily hear noise from nearby rooms or corridor. Though it's not my major concern. Hotel provides breakfast, which considered slightly better than normal b&b hostel. You can keep bags there. Staff are polite and good with their service. Toilet is clean. My r...

Delicious dinner on both nights. We were initially very disappointed having booked the hotel for its private outdoor onsen which after paying(non refundable) we were told was not going to be open due to snow, which given this weather should really have been expected and explained, however staff were very accommodating and upgraded us to a room with its own outdoor bath...

The dinner was fanatic!! The host family was very nice!! They drived us between different locations, (bus stop, ski area and hotel) The rooms are big. However, we stayed at this hotel in early Dec, season of skiing has just started, only 2 rooms were reserved. Too few people in the hotel, I was a little bit scared, especially, I stayed alone in the spring which is loca...

This was one of our favorite Ryokan stays in Japan, a lovely place with incredibly friendly staff, a delicious restaurant, a cozy vibe and great service. The staff went out of their way to always be helpful. Each evening felt like coming home. The location is excellent, right on the main drag of Shibu Onsen public bath area, with tons of little shops and cafes nearlby,...

We had a fantastic stay. The town is absolutely wonderful; walking between the local Onsens in Yukata is very magical. I highly recommend doing the dinner at the Ryokan as it was delicious and one of the highlights of our Japan trip. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, they even drove us to the snow monkeys on our final day and had our bags transferred to a ...

It is a budget hotel that has excellent location for skiing. The Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort is just right in front of the hotel. We rent the ski equipment from the house next to the hotel. The gondola, lift and snow scooter are just right in front of the hotel!!! This hotel is very clean, good breakfast and friend staffs. The room has futon and tatami mat and also heater ...

My husband and I were excited to spend three days in an onsen town lazing about and taking a lot of baths. He ended up getting sick during the first leg of the trip and was sick the entire time were were in Nagano. First of all, the ryokan was really easy to get to. Apparently, if you call them from Yudanaka station, they will come get you. We didn't know so we too...

We had booked a Japanese Style Room including Japanese Set Breakfast in order to have such an experience during our Japan trip and have to say that the Shibu Hotel definitely provided the same with a high standard. The room was spacious, the bathroom, toilet and amenities provided adequate. The Japanese Set Breakfast was nicely prepared, but one had to choose between tw...

The best place to stay in Yudanaka onsen because of so many things. The location is perfect because it’s only 7 min. walk from the Yudanaka Station so If you just want to rest and relax after a tiring commute around Nagano this place is not too far. Checking in was also a breeze because Mr. Ichiro is right there to greet you as you come in the front door. All the rooms...

We had the Grand Suite which was huge -- 86m2, with full kitchen and even a walk-in closet. Perfect for families and not too expensive (compared to other ryokan in the village). Loved having our own dining table and giant TV, and two separate showers. Great location. The onsen is in the basement and small, but it was often empty so not bad. Will book the exact same roo...
Cheapest hotels in Nagano

The staff were absolutely wonderful and the location perfect for skiing, Onden hopping, monkey park, peace, etc. We visited in the winter and the building (like many in Japan) has no central heat and is damp. The heated tables were excellent. The mini kitchen was typically stocked with odds and ends from other travelers. We only used the onsens located in house, but ma...

It's a small room fitted with 2 bunkbeds a kitchen and shower. Toilet is just outside and can be cold during winter, the room has a good heater plus a/c that can be used as heater as well and you get nice warm blankets. A lot of information material provided in english even when the owner doesn't speak that much english, but he's a unique person and always gives his be...

This Hostel is an amazing deal and the people that work there are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the area. I would Highly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling to Nagano. Also, the sleeping arrangements are quite comfortable and the actual hostel is a very quaint traditional building, which only adds to the overall charm. Will definitely stay again ...

I really liked this hostel. It has traditional tatami rooms for sleeping and ours was spacious and comfortable. There is a lovely fire to sit around in the bar area, as well as a pretty Japanese garden to look over from the living/TV room. This place is very well priced and close to the station, I'd definitely recommend it if you want good value for money. We would ...

This hostel is a very close walk to Nagano Station. It had a homey feel to it, not not a proper hotel, it was really nice. The owner was very friendly, though he English was not great, she tried very hard to make sure everything was ok and even tried to have a bit of conversation. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap place to crash whil...

From the moment we arrived at Guest House Kura we felt like we were visiting a friend. Marina welcomed us warmly and helped us with advice - particularly with how to get to the Snow Monkey Park at Yudanaka, but also with other places within and outside the region. She even took us to a lovely local Onsen where it was apparent tourists are rare. That is the beauty of Su...

This has probably been the best hostel I've stayed ar so far this time in Japan. The staff are really friendly, accomodating and make you feel at home. And I truly mean that. I've stayed at dozens of Hostels in Japan. However I have two complaints. My major complaint is that the AC in the room is just not strong enough to deal with the summer heat in a fully booked ...

Friendly and hospitable staff. Bar and diner space has underground cave feel. Billiards table, kitchen access, cosy bed. It does get cold but there is heating. Hostel is a short transit from Nagano Station to Gondo Station and a 5-10 minute walk (note suica and pasmo cards aren’t accepted on this line, you must buy tickets 170 yen one way to Nagano St).

This was one of our favorite Ryokan stays in Japan, a lovely place with incredibly friendly staff, a delicious restaurant, a cozy vibe and great service. Friendly and accommodating staff. Hotel was comfortable, safe and secure. Had everything you could need. No in-room safe but I had no issues. They did have loads of amenities at the front desk - Spare toothbrush, tea, coffee etc. Just help yourself. Room had everything you could need. Desk, table, TV, Radio, alarm, phone, great shower and bidet toilet. Room was v...

The resort was around the lake in a small town. The nearest train station is kurohime station and it cost about 1700yen to reach the hotel on a taxi, which may not be easy to get late in the night. It would be most convenient if you have a car, or rent it from the hotel. For us who didn't drive, the hotel owner Ted and his hotel staff Watanabe san were really kind and ...

Despite the language barrier, the front desk staff always trying their best to help with smiling faces. Helped us booked car rental for 1 day. We had to remind 1 staff( abit blur) that was on duty, that our ride to Snow monkey park was complementary ! We were almost charged for the ride! Rooms were big, clean and comfortable Breakfast - Buffet style, serves both Jap...

Hotel is clean and comfort, wifi is really high speed. Room is equipped with all necessary equipment which you do not need to bring anything e.g. Shampoo and conditioner, bath soap, toothbrush etc. The hotel is very close to Nagano station and bus station where you can walk around 5 minutes and there is one Starbuck nearby. You can easily connect the bus to see snow mo...

we loved our stay at Uotoshi. This ryokan is super unique, nothing like anywhere else we stayed in Japan. On appearance it is fairly simple but the longer we stayed the more charm it exuded. The private onsen is perfect to warm you up if you are staying in winter but the beds were also incredibly warm and toasty. Our room was big and well supplied with tea and hot wate...

Nice and cozy family Japanese style hotel. Our room was spacious, clean with large windows with a great view and the futon pleasant to sleep on. Breakfast is simple but served with taste. The bathroom is downstairs and is an Onsen style washroom one for each gender. The staff is great even though their knowledge of English is poor. Two things that could be improved ...

Nothing fancy, but this hotel is clean, warm, and close to the downtown area. It's the perfect place to crash after a day of skiing. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the mountain. The hotel is set up like a dorm - all the bathroom and sinks are down the hall. There's a public bath on the ground floor. Friendly staff, they helped us rent equipment and buy lif...

Found the Mielparque Nagano Hotel to be very different in appearance than most of the hotels i've stayed in. There was a wedding-chapel and a post-office under the same roof, so it really was a multi-purpose building, with a different design. Excellent service by the friendly staff was very familiar from other hotels in Japan! The room had all that was required fo...

We stayed at Tawaraya Ryokan for two nights, and could not have asked for a more perfect experience. While the ryokan in itself may not look extraordinary at first glance, its staff makes it just that. They are absolutely amazing, so helpful, sweet and thougthful. One of the best "hotel" experiences I have ever had, although I would not call this a hotel. We felt perfe...

Probably one of the 2 best hotels in Nagano city. a few good restaurants, comfortable rooms and professional service. Location is good too, 10-15 minutes walk from the famous Zenkoji temple and the same distance from the train station too. I find it better then the metropolitan hotel, which beats this one, only by the location. Was the main hotel, during the Olympic ga...

Hotel Tsubakino is near the station at Yudanaka. Charming inside and out. Impeccably clean, with wonderful flower arrangements, and staff who were discreet but incredibly friendly and helpful when needed. We arrived on a lunchtime train from Tokyo, and were able to store our luggage with the hotel while we went off to see the Snow Monkeys at Jigokudani (a short bus rid...

Everything was at one place and made the skiing trip very easy with kids. We chose this place because it had babysitting service for a baby. The hotel is right in front of the lift, good buffet breakfast and dinner, and excellent Onsen with outdoor bath.

The best location, ski out directly to resort. Have to mention great staff with great service. I miss the bus because the ENG version time table didn't update, not hotel's fault but manager were so nice to give every help he could get, have to visited in the future.

This hotel is on the way to the Jigodakuni Mountain to watch the snow monkey. It is along the way from the bus stop where you have to alight when coming from Nagano station. The onsen is very comfortable, so as other facilities like the lounge and swim pool and also the staffs are very nice to us.
5-star hotels in Nagano

We had a great time in a twin room. Very spacious with balcony overlooking ski slopes. We were a few days too early to use the okushiga ski lift but the hotel shuttle bus took us to lifts that were open. Had the onsen to ourselves both days - also overlooking the snow covered mountains and carpark. A great relaxation room too with massage chairs. Food is delicious but ...
Traveler impressions of Nagano
Relaxing, laid back, cheap, fantastic scenery, great food, super people, winter sports, trekking, mountains, fantastic fruit, superb and easy transport links.
Nagano was a perfect destination after the hustle and bustle of Metro Tokyo. it was a good experience to walk around the quiet town and visit the shrine.
the hospitality is very good, even the restaurant owner send us to the train station when its raining for free.
If you just want to relax at the hot spring, 2 day should be enough. Off course, you can spend more days enjoying the nature.
take a ride through the small towns towards Tateyama + kurobe dam, the alpine route and roof of japan.
Take the Asama Shinkansen from Tokyo. Then transfer to the local line going Yudanaka to go to the Snow Monkey Park or botanical zoos and parks.
It is nice to visit Nagano in winter to see the snow and the nightlife. A little shopping around the place can be rewarding.
Only stopped in nagano in transit to the mountains. Everyone in train station was very helpful & friendly, everyone in Nozawa onsen where I stayed was incredibly friendly.
Nagano is a lovely city, the main activity you can expect there is sport. Skiing there is very suitable.
I have not really been in Nagano. Just drove through it on a car, and stayed in small village Yudanaka whole holiday.
Very clean; picturesque, the Temple at the end of the main street is grande and well worth seeing. Many other sites accessible from Nagano.
Snowboarding rocks up here. Awesome vibe in the day and night! Spent New Years there and it was epic.

More about Nagano
There’s a great deal to see and do in Nagano, even though the city is mostly known for an important temple. Nagano is home to the famous Zenkoji Temple, which was built in the seventh century and is a major place of pilgrimage for those of the Buddhist faith. The temple houses a Buddha statue which is only shown to the public every six years, and understandably the city is overrun by visitors especially during this time.
The prefecture’s most celebrated art museum is also located in Nagano city, within easy reach of the famous temple. Travelers to Nagano often visit Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum to appreciate some of the most beautiful traditional Japanese-style paintings as well as changing exhibits at some of the galleries. Of course there’s much more to this city than just a temple and museum, but these are great jumping-off points for a most complete exploration of Nagano.
