A very laidback area where you can still experience the "original" Thailand, at serving as a convenient gateway to Laos.
It is quiet. Beautiful views across the river. The city is currently experiencing an explosion in growth.
Excellent Vietnamese food can be found, and some very nice Thai food too. Lots of hotels to choose from. The "River Hotel" is probably the best one in town overall. It has a bar and live music and a nice restaurant. Many cheaper hotels can be found too. The "Dahla Hotel" is very cheap and super clean. I live in Nakhon Phanom.
The Wat That Phanom is worth for visit, as the uniqueness of the stupa (Buddhist pagoda) and the legend behind this ancient city.
It a one of nice city. Beautiful temples of Laos influence.I like each temples histories. Many attractive place to visit, I'll come back again next time.
A very nice little city that does not rely on tourism for the survival of its local economy. There are enough things to do - ho Chi Minhs house, mekong Aquarium and historical sights in town, to occupy 2 to 3 days.
Not a place for tourists after night life or shopping. Lots of nice eating options around town, NB Seoul Bakery, Goodmorning Vietnam Coffee and the Chicken rice and mango sticky rice shop on the corner opposite the night market area.
Many interesting places around city center. Really safe and friendly town. Many nice local restaurants.
Nakhonpanom main attraction is That Phanom. People go there for religious/culture/history interests.
There is not much there at all to do. A vehicle is a must as the tuk tuk drivers will rip you off. It is a dirty place.
If you are a white person be prepared to be stared at as not many westerners go there and locals do not speak English at all. Once my sister-in-law turned up everything was a little better as she is Thai.
This is the real Thailand. Nothing focused on western tourism. A real hardworking farming town with small shops doing useful things we have missed since the 60s alongside 21st Century life.
Thai, Isaan, Lao and Vietnamese widely spoken. So much more in common with Laos and Vietnam than Bangkok or Phuket / Pattaya.
A small rural city with a relaxed pace and few tourist services. Not for first time visitors to Thailand
Take 2 days to travel around Nakorn Pranom and Sakol Nakorn to pay homage to 7 or 8 Pratat which represnetring 7 days of birth.
Personally, I like this community since it is somewhat quiet and there are not so many tourist attractions.
The stupa is escellent and I really fall in love with the stupa. It's also very nice to see the stupa at night time.
its a very big area do your home work well for hotel and the location you want the thai phanom area as a temple of sorts not one you can go into just a walled tower which can look like something you could go in from a photo if taken right for tourist nakonpanom main town is what i wanted that river view hotel and in my opinion the other hotel is using this name to confuse which it did in my case and the reviwe said it was in the main town which its not so do your home work please
I like Nakornpanom province. This province is on the Khong Riverbank, so it is very easy to travel to Lao.
