A strip of what is rapidly becoming a Sri Lankan over developed Costa Brava - even Tesco's and Asda's are there!
Wave sounds come from the sea. I like this strong wave from the sea. There are a lot of seafood restaurants around this area.
It's a convenient beach stop near Colombo, but the beach isn't wonderful for swimming as it's a working fishing beach.
Can't comment as have only stayed in Negombo twice as a stop over after a flight in. Good location to airport.
many churches, guess local people main religion are Catholics & Christian, quite enjoying time to visit around those chuches to see around there.
Negombo is very popular for it's fresh sea food and nightlife. Locals and foreigners are love this place alike.
Best is to take city tour in tuc-tuc. DO NOT pay the first price!!! Haggling is a must. IF I returned to Negombo, I would only go there to 1-2 days.
beach is the main attraction here. but its not the sea. the big sand beach is the attraction. you can find sri lankan Yatchs here.
Negombo is not the nicest part of Sri-Lanka despite the really convenient location near the airport. Mirissa beach, 2h from the airport by bus is undoubtly better.
Just love the atmosphere. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. We are 2 single women, and loved the huge choice of shops, cafés and bars.
Negombo is flying under the radar for the present. It is very friendly, relaxing and has much to offer if you slow down and look around the place.
MORE OF A RETIREMENT CITY BUT NICE MY REASON TO STAY AT NEGOMBO WAS DUE TO THE PROXIMITY TO COLOMBO AND SOUTHERN SRI LANKA AT A LESSER PRICE THAN WHAT I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY HAD I STAYED IN COLOMBO
Negombo is a quiet place - the inhabitants once known are friendly. The Tok Tok drivers need to be regulated as there are no safe guards for tourist from fleecing.
Try to see as much of the nature as possible. You can see the places of worship and walk on the long coast lines.
Negombo, which is only a short drive from the airport. Negombo itself was excellent lazing on the beach, chatting to the locals and drinking.
Near to the air-port,good beaches but only the main road to walk down to see a few shops and restaurants .
It is a good place to visit. The old fish market gives a good sense of the culture of Negombo. If you visit, ask for Jo-kim.
Just stay one night if you are arriving late at night as this city is very close to the airport. Nothing else much.
This was my 3rd visit it Negombo, and indeed Sri Lanka, the city is very vibrant, and bustling with people, and shop vendors only to happy to show you their wares,it also boasts a magnificent train station with regular services into Columbo, the beach area is near by with buses running from the main terminal in the city,it is big enough, but small enough to walk around
A very good city to either start or end your trip as it is close to the international airport. has good choices of local restaurants, travel agencies are plenty around.
I usually stay near the lagoon as i am not keen on beaches.Negombo is a very small town where you can shop if you want.
Negombo city is just a city. Recommend to stay at the beach area. Lots of accommodation to choose from.
We went to Negombo on our last day in Sri Lanka. It was a relaxing ending to our perfect trip. We stayed at the Jetwing Beach Hotel and walked around a little in the streets and visited the small shops which was a really nice experience.
It´s a good place to go when you arrive to Sri Lanka or when you are leaving. It´s near to the airport and you can skip the crazy Colombo.
Nice and friendly city nearby the airport. Reachable by TukTuk at the fare of 500rupe only.. going to the Lagoon and saw the activities of Fish Market on the beach.
Negombo is known for its sandy beaches. The entire coastal line going all the way to Puttalam is good.
Beach is average, sight-seeing is done rather fast. Sri Lanka offers so much to see, Negombo is a great place to start or finish a vacation - a few nights only.
Negombo is a very quite fishing village. Not much to do but relax and stop complaining. Tipping is respectful.
a good place to stay after a long haul flight as it is near the airport, good for a few nights and then good to move on to your preferred areas in Sri Lanka.
Negombo is very close to the airport, and for avoiding Colombo it's quite nice, but the beach isn't impressive and there are only a few tourist-friendly restaurants in town.
