Ngwesaung Beach hotels & places to stay

My wife and I traveled from Yangon to Ngwe Saung Beach for a four day personal retreat. We live in and travel extensively in Asia and spend many more days in a hotel than at home. Since we travel so often we generally choose mid-range properties but sometimes stay in 5 star or even 2 star hotels. We read the Reviews of hotels to get a sense about the place we are going to stay. Eskala had good reviews, but honestly, this property was one of the best I have stayed at in years. The staff was well trained and it is evident that the management was investing in staff training and more importantly in maintenance and upkeep of the facility. We walked the beach every day and this one had the best maintained beach of all of the beachfront properties in this stretch of beach. We had a small problem with the A/C one evening but the staff immediately worked to resolve the issue. Our respect to Ya Min who had the title of Bellboy but demonstrated excellent management skills in assisting in this. Our stay was in September, Rainy Season, and we expected the food service to be decreased but we found the Food to be excellent. More 5 star than 4 star. Htun Htun Oo and staff did an exemplary Job even though the hotel was not full. Food presentation and timing was first class and the portions were generous. We were also impressed with the Front desk manager Nao Nao Hnin Wai who checked us in and out and assisted us as we were interested in local attractions. The Pool was exceptionally large for a 60 unit property and very well maintained. Overall, the stay exceeded our expectations. Would recommend this property to anyone traveling to this beach.

One of the best hotels in Myanmar - really 5 star. Very attentive staff, comfy rooms, big and clean terretory. Located quite far from local village so you need to use a mototaxi to get there.

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Room and Bathroom both very spacious and well equipped. Bed comfortable. Breakfast western and Myanmar style. Breakfast room would be nicer situated with view to the sea instead of street, but this is just a small "minus". Hotel organised Motorbikes for us and bus tickets to Yangon.

Room is comfortable, staff very friendly, swimming pool still under renovation, too bad no sea view, our balcony is behind a patch of vegetation that is behind another resort. still it is not far from beach, like 1 minute walk.

I stayed here on a weekend get away while working in Myanmar. It is a beautiful beach and the facilities are wonderful. It is very different than most areas in Myanmar and is not yet overwhelmed with tourists.

Very spacious and green grounds right at the beach. Perfect, quite luxurious rooms or bungalows, most of them with lots of shade. Everything in working order. Very friendly and helpful people. Especially good choice when you want some leisure days i.e. after travelling in Birma. A few books on your e-reader, good music on the ipod, a Myanmar beer on the side: that's a real holiday. Unfortunately there were just very few people when we were there (not only in this resort by the way but anywhere in Ngwe Saung) but then again, maybe you just like it this way. Drinks and food are not cheap but of high quality but they have Fishermans Bar at the northern and of the resort for affordable meals. Access to Ngwe Saung from Yangon is far from easy. The busstation to the coast is more than an hour drive outside the city. Bus leaves at 6:30 a.m. and will arrive at Ngwe Saung at 0:30 p.m. No taxis there so you'll have to arrange transportation (for your loads of luggage) or grab a motortaxi (when you're travelling light). Bay of Bengal is about 1,5 km out of town and it's 2 km to or from the busstation.

We spent 3 lovely nights at the Emerald Sea Resort. I've never come across a hotel staff so eager to please as this one. They ALWAYS are smiling, even the gardeners and housekeepers. Rooms are cleaned twice per day, wait staff always offer to fold napkins over your lap, they deliver traditional Burmese desserts to your room at night, they will bike into town and buy you a bus ticket at no extra charge, they'll prepare breakfast for you to take if you have to check out early....I could go on and on about how wonderful the service is here but you get the picture. The young, student-aged staff really go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Ngwesaung Beach is a slice of heaven. Enjoy it now before the big developers find it. Currently you are just as likely to see a herd of buffalo walking across the beach as you are to see another group of tourists. Try a beach holiday in Burma instead of Thailand!

Best location to the beach and nice service, no wifi, clean and comfortable, house is facing the sea. quiet and also not too far to the town.

Our stay was in the "Lofts", which were actually one story, permanent structures. The best part about this place was access to the facilities of the adjacent Ngwesaung Yacht Club. Beautiful pool looking out onto your own beach. The NYC is a bit pricey for food and drinks, but if you want to be frugal, there's a decent budget restaurant just across the street. Nearby Northpoint Restaurant is closed in the rainy season

The hotel is at the far end of the beach. This means it is a little bit far from town and other hotels, but it also means that it is nice and quiet and you get the beach to yourself. The hotel staff were very accommodating and help our large family figure out a way to stay in one room together. The food was fine and inexpensive. Overall a great place!

Beach and clear water are better than expected. Room is very clean. Staff are the best we have seen not only in Ngwe Saung but also all the hotels in Myanmar. The only thing is the hotel is at the southern most inNgwe Saung and far from the main village. But it’s good for the people who prefer a quiet place.

We spent at the hotel only one night as we arrived at Ngwe Saung one day earlier than planned and the hotel we stayed the remaining five days was fully booked for that date. But we used to come to Soe Ko Ko every day of our holidays - for a dinner or just to chat with Aung (the manager). The hotel is made of bamboo tree and nicely decorated in a Myanmar national style. The hotel has a chef who cooks good food, Tom Yam Goong was best we tried in Myanmar. Tempura prawns were also delicious. One day Aung arranged a special dinner for us - he bought a big fish from local fishermen and his chef cooked it perfectly. The price for this nice dinner was more than modest. The hotel's staff is very friendly and helpful but speaks very little English. The hotel's owner, Aung's father, did a favour and delivered us to Yangon when our holiday came to an end. Our room was basic but cozy and we had electricity during whole of the day. One possible inconvenience is that the hotel lacks hot water but we did not consider it as a huge problem. The hotel is located a bit outside the village (in a quiet and safe place) but it only takes 5-7 minutes to get it. The beach is in 5 minutes distance from the hotel. We recommend Soe Ko Ko if you are looking for an authentic, well managed and and reasonably priced accomodation in Ngwe Saung.

The best beach equipped with plank beds and canopies in the settlement, fine numbers, comfortable beds, boiled water, personnel just on 10 stars, tasty breakfasts, the well-groomed clean territory of hotel, in the evening beautiful illumination, a palm tree circle. A short (not very scenic) walk to the Southern end of the beach at Lovers Island, but I walked to the beach in under 15 minutes. JL Lodge is a ring of cute bungalows on a hill surrounding a pool and bar area. Many bungalows have ocean views, as did mine close to the pool. Power only from 6pm - 6sm, but a good ocean breeze with windows and door open when I was there in early May. Check in wasn't seamless, I arrived on an overnight bus and the lady at the desk couldn't find my reservation, but about 45 minutes after arrival I was in my room. The staff's willingness to help outweighs any minor check-in hiccups. Staff was AWESOME!! Breakfast is basic but good. Bikes available for free for you to use. A good 30ish minute bike ride to Ngwe Saung Village, but moto taxis are average 1500 kyat. If you want peace and quiet, lots of beach time with only minor excursions to the Village check this place out!

Managers and staff here are excellent. All work to ensure your stay is a good one. Breakfast is filling and has multiple options. The pool is clean and a great place to enjoy the views. A quick walk to the beach and snorkeling at lovers island. Reception has rentals for snorkeling, motorbikes, etc and can book your bus, tours, massage, etc. A great place to come relax, enjoy, and explore. If I'm in Myanmar again I will be going back for sure!

A hidden gem! Lovely private rooms with shared showers. Located just inside the village so you can take in the local vibes. Good breakfast and the manager is a super nice and lovely person! Only drawback is that the showers are cold (no biggie, since this is the case in many of the hostels anyways). Came for 3 days and stayed for one week. If you are travelling the area, don't miss it!

Beautiful Hotel on the beach. We had an executive room with sea view, which was very large and also very clean. The pool is great, big enough to swim a few kilometers. The beach is very clean and completely empty. The area around is pretty quiet as the hotel is not directly in the village but a little bit up north. The breakfast is delicious. When there are enough guests, they will provide a buffet with western and asian breakfast. Staff is very nice and helpful but communication is not easy as they do not really speak english. But you can always communicate somehow. There are a lot of mosquitos, I would recommend to bring a mosquito net with you as it is not provided by the hotel. We stayed for 1 week and it was all in all a great, very relaxing vacation, which I would definitely recommend to anyone!

This guesthouse is the cleanest place I've been in Myanmar! The hosts are amazing and give you lots of recommendation about what to do in ngwesaung, where to eat, etc. Even if you do hear your neighbours (wooden rooms) I definitely recommend this pace!

The owner was very nice and made everything easy for us. Again the breakfast was very good, the best we had so far in Myanmar. The rooms feel friendlier than on the pictures. The beds are nice and comfy. We wanted to stay 2 nights but in the end stayed 5. That really says it all. I really doubt you'll find better budget accomodation in Ngwesaung.

The owner is such a great guy, he really makes you feel at home. They really care about you having a good time. It's a really chilled out place, so nice sleeping in a hut and hearing birds and feeling the wind. Breakfast is good. Free bycicles to explore. Good location by the beach and away from busy centre, yet close by bike. The couple who own the massage parlour next door are ADORABLE, with the sweetest kids. I highly recommend the Thai massage and to just hang out with them, they are great. They are building dorms now which look pretty cool, for those who want a cheaper stay. Only downside was WiFi was bad, but data is so cheap...Don't tate to go here! Oh and they have the cutest happiest Dog in Myanmar!

We had a very nice time for this long weekend. The beach walks are just great, the sea was so warm and refreshing and the breakfast buffet was excellent. We had lunch and dinner at other restaurants nearby because we were with other friends, and these were also great. Staff in this hotel are very very good, keeping the beach and hotel grounds very clean and the rooms well cleaned too. Management is clearly excellent.

Grest beach.Love their infinity pool..Good breakfast.Very good staff they have yet to learn more English.So good view from the balcony.The only thing that same as in most if Myanmar if theylike to get foregners need insect screen on windows.I asked for non sprayed room in Europe we are afraid of malaria and too many chemicals.Overall relaxing brach experience ocean water is so clean.Room is big and opens to both sides its siry.

poolbar was closed all the time, so there was no chance for ordering drinks while relaxing at pool/ beach. room was big with balcony, ac and hot water, but the ground was not really clean when we arrived. for this price i expected a little bit more from the hotel, but the beach was amazing!

the family that runs the place is so nice and welcoming, and the place is clean and homey. the room was pretty basic and it's a bit far away from the beach, but overall we enjoyed our stay.
