Lovely location on a mountain top. Fabulous facilities however not the ideal couples/honeymooner location since it‘s highly promoted to families. If you pick a time outside of school holidays you should be fine ;) Staff is absolutely amazing. Best breakfast buffet in Oman. A Spa treatment highly recommendable.

A long way up Jebel Shams on tarmac and dirt road. Difficult to find Al Hamra road out of Nizwa but then hotel well signposted and their directions from website helpful. This hotel is the first of the two hotels at the top. Bungalow was simple but adequate. Restaurant food was fine and variety between the two nights we stayed. Tea and coffee freely available during th...

We chose to stay in the hotel rather than just camping because we were travelling with small children, one below 1 year old. It is a spacious resort, giving you lots of places to relax. For us it was just great to get away from the heat in Dubai, we loved the cool weather and the surrounding mountains. The rooms were big and the beds were good and large as well. But ...

The staff at the Golden Tulip work really hard to make your stay there a great experience. For Oman, where most hotels open to foreigners are very expensive, the Golden Tulip offers great value. It has a lovely pool, which when the summer is on, is the best place to cool down. There is also a variety of bars, where you can have soft or alcoholic drinks - again not al...

We arrived at night but even then, driving up the mountain road we got so excited as to what would await us the next morning and we were not disappointed. The views are incredible both back to Al Hamra / Nizwa and to the east towards Rustaq as the hotel sits right in the saddle looking both ways. Even though it is located remotely 25 min outside of Al Hamra between Bah...

Spent two nights at Sunrise as part of my trip around Oman and had an absolutely lovely time there. The drive was a little tricky, definitely recommend a 4x4, but quite exciting to do. Had excellent service from all the staff and went on a walk (about 3-4 hours) around the small canyon, which is well marked out. The second day I drove round to Jebel Shams and did the b...

Checked in early with no problem. Booked dinner and breakfast in the package as there are few opportunities for dinners up on the plateau. Staff very friendly and food was very good. The hotel is simple, but very adequate if travelling on a budget. It is in a great place to explore the plateau, near the start of some treks and just near the main road in. If you are no...

We stayed in the hotel for two nights. We were travelling around north part of Oman - 7 adult people and 3 small kids- 1; 3.5; and 4.5 years old boys) Location was very good for us as we wanted to stay close to the mountains. It`s easy to get from hotel to Jabal Shams for amazing offroad sightseeing. We booked 4 rooms and all of them were quite spacious and light. Gene...

we decided to come here as the pictures looked great, and they had one night free, we would have stayed for two. the place is just amazing if you are looking for peace, cooler temperatures (it was 22 at night, 28 during the day, while it was 45 in Dubai). we arrived around 1pm from Mizfah and settled on the terrace, making a cup of coffee, and eating some dates, there ...

Really fantastic hotel in Nizwa. We felt like home because of the great ownership of the manager Mr, Anu. He is a super host and very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, day trips, car rentals and pretty much anything that you want to do around. The hotel feels new. Very clean, comfortable beds, strong wifi and SPACIOUS rooms. I recommend Nizwa Hotel Apart...

We had a couple of nights at this hotel in Nizwa that we enjoyed a lot. We booked the 2bdr apartment which was comfortable for 4 people. The hotel is 13km from the Souk area, so I recommend it for travellers with car. The staff is friendly with a good command of English. Free Arabian coffee and dates are served on arrival. We would stay here again in the future.

Booked this hotel during our last visit to Jebel Akhdar with family. Had a night stay. The hotel is good for passing a night and expecting more then this would be over expectation. The rooms are big and clean. There is only one attendant who takes care of everything; right from confirming booked room to cleanliness. However, was welcoming and there was willingness in a...

We stayed in the hotel for one night only. We were travelling around north part of Oman - 7 adult people and 3 small kids- 1; 3.5; and 4.5 years old boys. Location was very good for us as we wanted to stay away from the city centre but close enough to get to the gaot market and fort in Nizwa. We booked 4 rooms and all of them were quite spacious. We were nicely suppris...

Get ready for a traditional experience here and it should rightly be what you seek for when you come to the rural towns of Oman! All payments are by cash, no cards. Toilets are shared, just like in the past/traditional villages, but are impressively kept clean! Meals are homecooked and rooms come with clean, soft, individually packed towels, bar soaps and shampoo sache...

We felt very welcome and safe and comfortable at the Majan Guest House. We arrived after a long drive from Muscat and was not sure what to expect of Nizwa. The Majan Guest house was located on the way into town and was easily seen from the bus. It was easy to get taxis from outside the Guest House into Nizwa. The food we ordered and ate at the restaurant was freshly...

We wanted to stay here for a while but it is in high demand and often booked out so when we finally secured a couple rooms we were very happy. We were not disappointed. The hotel location in the middle of the old Misfah Al Jebreen Village is perfect for a relaxing retreat as no cars are plowed in the village. The location amongst the palm trees is tranquil. Staff were ...

The location is good: excellent as a base to explore the surrounding area, right on the Nizwa - Bahla main road, close to shops and restaurants. The room is clean and comfortable, with AC and private bathroom. Internet connection is good. The breakfast is good. The staff was not the most professional one, but they get the job done. It took some time to find the hotel a...

On arrival we were informed of a room change. This was because we were offered a room more in line with the hotel's features rather than our personal request. Also agoda failed to describe the rooms correctly. We agreed to the change but didn't get more from it other than easier access to the pool area. The outdoor pool itself was cold (in November) which seems strange...

We are a family of 3, from Switzerland. Ahmed welcomed us very warmly. He showed us his house, the room etc. The room was very clean, equipped with air conditioning (although this device is a bit noisy). It was very clean, with private toilet and shower. A kitchen is available for guests who would want to cook themselves, although this is not necessary since breakfast ...

The bait is situated in the old Al Hamra, the first house, after the museum, that has been renovated. Very tastefully, very authentic., very Omani. The staf was very friendly and accommodating. The facilities are simple but that is expected in a place like this. We loved it and will certainly return.

Location in the market is great and there is a cachet to the exterior of the hotel. Staff also was very very friendly. However several things should be improved: rooms are nowhere as clean as they should be, variety and quality of food at breakfast are lacking, and there are barely any facilities in the room: no TV, no fridge, no hanger for towels, no coffee pot and no...

Traveler impressions of Nizwa
a lot of historical place and nature place. i can't say it by word. come and feel it! you will not disappointed
Day trips to nearby wadis, forts, tombs, etc. make Nizwa worthwhile visiting. We missed the fort in town due to maintenance.
The town itself has become a tourist trap with newly built reproduction of an Arab souq and fort. The surrounding area is rugged and required either a 4WD vehicle or willingness to hike many hours on VERY rough terrain.
Stay minimum 2 days in nizwa. Check Al hoota cave availability. Nizwa for is only till 11.00am on friday.
I didn't get to see all of Nizwa, but I did get to see the fort and mosque in the center of town as well as the souk that is right in the middle of all that.

The hotel was stunning, lovely swimming pool on the edge of their property with stunning maintain views and sunset. Make sure to contact the hotel if you dont have a 4x4 so they can puck you up. You can only reach it using a 4x4 as the ascend and decline on the mountain road makes it mandatory, but any novice can drive it. Police station checks every car if it is 4x4....

Unless you want to stayvat Heritage Inn at the fort (culture experience) , this is the only modern and clean place in Nizwa. It was 10 min walk on road behind hotel to souk/fort. More about Nizwa
There is much that can be seen and explored when visiting the city of Nizwa. Incredible landscapes set the scene at such sites as Jebel Akhdar and Wadi Ghul, an abandoned village in an area known as the Omani Grand Canyon. Plenty of ruins are up for exploration as well at sites such as the Tanuf Ruins and Birkat Al Mouz Ruins. But one of the city’s biggest draws is the Nizwa Fort, which is flanked by the small - but culturally immersive - Nizwa Souk.
Accommodation options in Nizwa can be found not too far from the airport and along the main thoroughfares of the city. Find the most suitable accommodation for you by clicking on our interactive map and exploring Nizwa for hotels and must-see destinations.
