Traveling to Laos? Find Savannakhet hotels

Savannakhet does not have a huge range of hotels but this is one of the best ones in terms of size and facilities. Sited on the banks of the Mekong, a little way from the centre of town, it is popular with both local dignitaries and travelling foreign organised parties touring Laos. There was even a complete film crew staying when we were there. I spoiled us by booking a suite and wasn't disappointed. It was very spacious with great views over the river. It also had a Jacuzzi built for two (it could have fitted three) which was innovative! Breakfast was good and plentiful and we did eat in the restaurant a couple of times in the evening and was pleasantly surprised by some of the dishes available. The hotel is a little way from town but not too far from the night market area where there are some excellent restaurants for all tastes but with a lovely French ambiance. The hotel can transport you around or you can get a tuk-tuk Was there for four nights in all and would stay again

Excellent customer service. Manager Otto from reception was a champion, so helpful. The staff, from reception, restaurant, gaming and house keeping were all friendly. Van pick up from Mukdahan to the resort. Return to Mukdahan after check out, excellent service. The room was big, air con very cold, comfortable bed. Very good buffet breakfast. Food and drink prices are cheap in the restaurant close to the front doors. The gaming floor, plenty of the usual games, cheap tables to your high rollers. Cons: The shower was narrow because of the shower screen, water super hot and fluctuated a little, so it was too hot at times. Can't take outside food or drink into the hotel. There's a mini mart near reception but only sells little cans of beer Lao but are reasonably priced at 40thb. The resort is out of town but the are taxis available to get around. Otto, the manager at reception spoke very good English and was a star organizing a few things for me.

Great hotel for (Thai) visa trip as it is located near Savannakhet Bus Station and not far from the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet (10-20 mins walk). We had a big and clean room with a large bed. Breakfast prepared by a nice and friendly lady at Coffee@Avalon was really good. The hotel/restaurant accepted USD, Thai baht and Laos kip. The price at Coffee@Avalon was reasonable. We spent only 440 Thai baht for our big lunch (three dishes + a can of Pepsi and a small bottle of water), plus 2 take-away sandwiches for dinner. Note: bottled water can be quite expensive in Savannakhet especially if you don't carry Laos kip, if possible, bring some from Thailand. :)

Comfortable beds, well-appointed bathroom, outstanding wi-fi. Not much choice for breakfast but I enjoyed what I had. No English-speaking channels on the TV but I think most of their customers are Thai or Laotians so you can't blame them for that. Wi-fi is fast enough to stream Youtube though. There really is no need to slum it at a guesthouse when this place is cheap and comfortable and half the price of the only other comparable hotel in Savannakhet which is nowhere near as well located.

Stylish hotel with beautiful rooms that are an excellent value for the money. Great location, just minutes from the Thai Consulate, market, and a great bar called "Home Beer" (which is within walking distance from the hotel). Delicious western and Asian (Lao/Thai) food in the cafe. Great coffee and smoothies too. All VERY affordably priced. The ONLY issue I had during my stay was that the air conditioner in my room wasn't strong enough to keep the room cool. It looked like a new unit. It probably just needed a thorough cleaning. I did NOT inform the hotel staff about the issue because I didn't spend much time in my room. But the staff were all VERY nice and even let me check in HOURS earlier than my reservation. I'm sure if I had mentioned the air conditioning problem to them, they would have done their best to rectify the situation. I go to Savannakhet every few months and I've tried other hotels (including the one next to Aura). But Aura is BY FAR my favorite. Will go back again soon

The area has a couple gazebos to relax and read or snack, quiet area, AC worked in my room but not the best, huge bed, Thai channels, shower pressure was great and has hot water. Nice room in all. Close to Thai Consulate.. and now there is a huge market - near bus station - within walking which also has several Thai restaurants with a blend of Western and a convenient store (beside a chicken restaurant on the main road near bus station - has great chick burritos) . Everything for a general stay is in walking distance.

I've stayed in a lot of places in Savannakhet, and the Pilgrims Kitchen & Inn is by far the best. After a warm welcome from manager and staff, they went out of their way to make my stay as there comfortable as possible. They care so much about customer satisfaction, it felt like a home from home for me. The food is amazing, their Indian dishes are delicious esp the Chicken Curry with Homemade Chips which are crispy outside and fluffy on the inside, they remind me of chips from UK Fish n Chip shops. Their staff make you feel like part of a family and to top it off, I couldn't get to the border on my last day so the manager so very kindly took me there on his motorbike for free. It's the only place I'll stay when visiting Savannakhet from now on.

I stayed in the newer section of the Hoong Thip Hotel. I found the room to be quite satisfactory. The room was spacious, the AC worked great, I had clean sheets and pillow cases on a large bed. The staff were not exactly talkative but I think that was due to the fact that almost all of them possessed very limited skills with the English language. However, one of the maids spoke good English and she was quite talkative. The Hoong Thip Hotel is in a very good location. It is located about 5 minutes walking distance from the Thai Consulate. It is also close to many different restaurants. It is also very close to the Mekong River. The Mekong River is only about a 7 minute walk from the Hoong Thip Hotel. There are many places to eat at down by the river. I drank a Beer Lao as I watched the sun set over the Mekong River. I would also like to add that I found the free breakfast that I ate at the Hoong Thip Hotel was quite tasty. I was also served all the free coffee I wanted. I would definitely stay there again. However, there are several guest houses that are in that part of Savannakhet that are cheaper in price, or so I was told. These guest houses seemed to be satisfactory accomodations from what I was told by other tourists who were staying at them. That having been said I would not hesitate to stay at the Hoong Thip Hotel again the next time I go back to Savannakhet, Laos. Based on what I saw I would recommend that you stay in the newer section of the Hoong Thip Hotel.

Nice place, quiet and with clean room... 15 minutes walk to downtown but can find many tuk-tuk around hotel area... Breakfast is ok, staff are nice. This hotel is new compare to many hotel in Savannakhet.

My stay was very comfortable in a clean room, with TV & hot shower. The staff were keen to help with my check-in. I should point out that the Hotel is about 10 - 15 mins out of Savannakhet town centre. Journey by Tuk Tuk is not expensive, but you have to know your currency conversions along with making sure you have local currency & some Thai baht for backup. Barradleungxay is a really pleasant place to stay. There are little eating stalls around the corner in the main road along with (if you want) a Casino in the road along from the main crossroad. I enjoyed staying there because it was safe, clean & friendly. As well as getting out of town & exploring another little area.

This place is large and was fairly empty when I arrived. Its as if the town doesn't quite support this level of operation quite yet. Workers lounged around lazily in the spa waiting for customers who never showed, and the pool was mostly frequented in the evenings by locals who obviously were paying for pool access. The rooms are quite nice, well designed with gorgeous balconies, great curtains for blocking out the light, and all the extra luxuries one would expect in an expensive hotel , this hotel is quite expensive for Laos. Staff are remarkably friendly. The drivers will pick you up, drop you off, and take you on errands. The breakfast was quite lovely... So, when you consider the money saved for taxis and breakfast, the price really is reasonable. I really enjoyed the hotel. I went there after several days in a cheaper guest house. For me, it was a really nice treat for my last day in Savannakhet.

Nice and quiet hotel, occupied multiple buildings. It is about 4 km from the Thai Consulate to the north by main road 9W and a little after turn to the left, you can find it on google maps. There is Lee mart on the right side just before the turn, 7/11 analogue. Also many restaurants with good prices after turn, working at evening too. Wi-fi stuck sometimes, easy resolved with stuff. Also stuff was not aware that breakfast included, resolved with Agoda support chat. On breakfast ate rice with green curry, some chicken bouillon with pieces of chicken and potato. Also there are omelets, instant coffee, cacao and tea.

My wife and I stayed at Savanbanhao Hotel for 6 days. I read all the available reviews before booking. Price, quiet and convenient location were our top priorities and this hotel seemed perfect for us. We are experienced in traveling through SE Asia. Savannakhet is a small town in Laos. The hotel is what we expected for the price. The staff were helpful and accommodating, but reserved like Lao culture. It helps if you can speak at least some Thai. There was one your man who spoke every good English and was very helpful to assist us when we asked. Some new construction is happening on the property, but not active until our last day there. There is no food service at the hotel, but you can buy things to keep in the larger rooms with fridge. The bed mattress was thin, but we expected that. The one disappointment was discovering that the Thai Consulate has moved to a new location, but still an short tuktuk ride away. We would gladly book this hotel in the future.

Wifi = *none* or minimal/non-functional Room: Clean; air con & fan; fridge; lovely hot water; TV Location: 20' walk to Bus station; 25' to Old Quarter Staff: Minimal or no English Karaoke bar next to hotel sometimes noisy. I stayed 3 nights. The 1st night it was loud till 2 AM; 2nd night only until 900 pm then quiet! 3rd night: as for 2nd. *** To get to the Old Quarter, turn LEFT when leaving hotel. Go straight down the road. After 10-15 minutes, the Old Market appears on your left. You are at the beginning of the old area. If you keep walking straight, you'll wind up in the Mekong River!

This hotel is close to the Thai embassy and prettu much opposite the international bus station, very convenient. I had a VIP suite which I normally don't get but this was nice. The bed was big, comfy and very soft. A huge bathroom and an even bigger tv, massive with lots of channels. The staff is friendly and helpful. the only downside to this place is there is no place to eat lunch or dinner. they do serve a good breakfast with (Thai) dishes and toast, fruit, coffee, tea

Overall i like this place out of the poor accommodations in savanakhet. Good:7mins walk to thai consulate. Great for visa run. I took vip room(700baht)(superior room in agoda site) which has a spacious living room and bed room with 2 tv(though only lao, vietnam, thai channels) and 2 air conditioning with comfy bed and good hot shower. Wifi available only at reception area. Bad: when i showed up with agoda's hotel voucher, the female receptionist seemed puzzled as if never seen one before. I had to wait for 20mins while she contacts agoda to sort out their payment problem etc. she spoke little english and did not smile much. Having said that, the hotel is clean and nice. Next time ii will just walk in to get a room closer to the reveptionn so that i might be able to use wifi in my room. PS.This hotel is called LOTUS Hotel, lao name is dok boua savan hotel.

arriving at savannaketh bus terminal none of the many tuc tuc drivers knew the hotel, and not even the address. calling several times the number mentioned in my booking reference neither was successful, as nobody ever answered. has to search for a new hotel - still the money was deducted from my credit card (still waiting for refund). tip for agoda: maybe print some driving directions in lao transcript on the booking statement, so that local tuc tuc drivers are able to read them .... i rated the hotel as 3 though, as otherwise the comment cannot be posted.

This is a place which is fading away, most guesthouse are people from Thailand renewing their visa. Rooms are poor, wifi is not working, staff is tired and uninterested. Gunsts staying there told us that years ago this was a great place to stay.

Used this hotel as a stop over on a long journey. Was a pleasant hotel with friendly staff. Food was available nearby so no problem there. room was a good size and comfortable beds. Will stay here again on my return journey.

It was peaceful. The location is quiet and the staff is friendly. Surprisingly, the lock up the front court entrance every night so it isn't accessible 24 hours a day, but then Savannakhet isn't a 24 hour-a-day kind of town. This location is handy if all you're looking to do is stay near the bus station and go to the Thai consulate for a visa.

Firstly, it is a family run Guest House. They will go out of their way to understand your needs. Breakfast is not included, but I was invited to join the family for local breakfast. One morning it was vietnamese, not exactly what you are use to, but good. As the place is away from the city, the family gladly drives you where you want to go in Savannakhet. They gave me a phone no. to call when I wanted to be picked up in the evening. I kind got to know them well, as we would sit around in their lounge, in the evening , talking, using sign language. All the shyness you first saw, had all vanished.
