Traveler impressions of Suzhou

More about Suzhou

Suzhou is famed throughout China for its beautiful gardens and picturesque canals. The modern hub of the city is Suzhou Times Square where the city's young and rich do their designer shopping and dining. Hotels near Suzhou Times Square are convenient to cabs and within walking distance of countless shops, cafes, and restaurants. Hotels in Guanqianjie Commercial District are convenient for business travelers, while accommodation near Shiquan Street is in a great position for sightseers.

Very much a water town, Suzhou's canals are its focal point with many of them featuring centuries-old original architecture. History is well preserved in Suzhou, and its Classical Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visitors to Suzhou should not miss Pingjian Road, an ancient road paved with hand-cut stones dating back more than a thousand years. The street is lined with shops maintaining traditional architectural styles, giving visitors a chance to glimpse the history and culture of Suzhou. Other attractions include the Tiger Hill Pagoda, a Buddhist temple built over a thousand years ago. Suzhou accommodation is plentiful in this neighborhood, and many people choose to stay here to be close to the temple.
