Travelling through Urumqi in October and November was problematic owing to rain, fog and snow which caused considerable flight delays.
Recommend travelling through here from mid-spring to mid-autumn
Quaint city with a real mix of cultures; not sure that you are in China until you get a feel for the history of the area and the people there.
Busy city and traffic jams everywhere, no cabs available in rush hour. People are generally friendly and the sour ones tend to stand out. Great museums, trips to Turpan and Tianshan. Best to use the tour companies. Local yogurt, cheese, nuts and fruit are nothing short of amazing!
There is not much characteristic with the city of Urumqi. Just like any other city in China, very metropolitan with big giants buildings.
Most of the attractions are far away from Urumqi, the closest one is Turpan and Tianchi lake.
