"V Hotel was very fine. I paid $7.00 for a taxi from the airport. $21.00 dollars per night. Clean room, good air con, good elevator, hot water in the shower. You also get a light breakfast from 8;00 to 9:30. I saw no flaws with V Hotel, but Vientiane? Never Again. It's now huge and sprawling. No maps available for the crooked main sts. So I took a jarring 6 1/2 van ride to Vong Vieng, Laos' Party City. It was so friggin' boring (The place shuts down at ten p.m. I couldn't believe it) I went right back to Vientiane, then back to Thailand. The airport in Vientiane also SUCKS. There's 9 Immig. Officers doing absolutely nothing, while all VISA applicants are put into ONE LINE that barely moves. I stood in line for at least 1 1/2 hrs. GET YOUR VISA BEFOREHAND IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Laos doesn't care one bit about tourism, and makes no accomodation to help you. Any other questions, write me at FB,-my name is Patrick Young from Fresno, CA"

"After a really difficult time from arriving at the bus station and suffering a ‘rip off’ Tuk Tuk - we were ‘dumped’ from one of the awful shared TukTuk trucks 2km away from the hotel and told it was ‘up this street’ - Travel tip: ensure these Tuk Tuk drivers drop you to the door if your hotel in Vientiane! Suffice to say we were pretty annoyed and very late when we arrived but the warm reception from the team and the quality of the hotel was enough to get us back in a positive mood. The room was spacious and well appointed and we had a comfortable bed. Breakfast was good with good range of choice for western and Asian palates. The pool was a welcome feature. All in all we enjoyed our stay and already recommended the hotel to a fellow traveller who enjoyed his stay a few days after we left Definitely worth trying!,"

"We have been to a lot of hotels in Asia and I have to say this was literally Golden sun hotel - the best one we have stayed at. Everything from the service to the food and the room were great. Buffet breakfast was so tasty. Manager runs the hotel very well. And also wonderful fitness center and swimming pool, Spa. They really looked after us being on our trip. Above and beyond our expectations. Certainly one of the best hotels in Vientiane."

"Simply a really good value hotel in Vientiane in a location which is within walking distances of the main downtown sites. Breakfast was one of the best we had in Laos. Staff always friendly. Even asked us if they could make us a coffee in the breakfast room every morning. Location was reasonably quiet. Airport bus stop right outside door which was very convenient when departing at the end of our stay."

"In terms of professionalism and quality of stay, you can't beat the Crowne. I've stayed here twice and have loved it both times. The staff are professionals (which is not something you should take for granted in a place like Laos, or Southeast Asia in general) and the building is spanking new, as are the big and comfy rooms and facilities. The restaurant/breakfast is vast, including the selections, and the ambiance is definitely upscale. This is probably the most luxuries hotel in Laos I've been in. You do get your money's worth. Pro Tip: don't be a chump and use the hotel (or any hotel's, for that matter) airport shuttle option. Taxis are now readily available in Vientiane and Laos (not the case just a few years ago) so just use the taxi stands. Yes, they will be slightly more expensive than what you'd pay the street tuktuks, but way cheaper (nearly half) of what any hotel shuttle will cost you."

"A new hotel very well managed by a competent management, who seems to be very concerned about the well-being of the customers. The reception staff are very professional, courteous to the customers, always smiling, particularly friendly and respectful. The One Vientiane Hotel is located in the center of Vientiane and very close to the banks of the Mekong and the Night Market. Everything is immaculate and remarkably clean : common areas of the hotel, bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom is large, bright and comfortable. The bathroom is well designed and hot water is no problem. We wanted to stay 3 days and stayed 6 days ultimately, which allowed us to visit Vientiane better. From arrival to departure, we had no hotel problems, which is not always the case in other hotels in Asia. A hotel management to take as an example and that I recommend without hesitation, I who am a frequent traveler. "

More about Vientiane

Vientiane is the smallest capital in the world, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. Situated on the Mekong River in the Mekong Valley, this Laotian city has a sub-tropical climate and enjoys life at a relaxed pace.

Vientiane has a mixed heritage still evident in its architecture, its street names, and in its food. French restaurants can be found up and down Avenue Lane Xang. The city is best appreciated by the Mekong, where open-air restaurants serve fresh seafood and Beer Laos well into the evening.

For shopping, most locals and visitors head to Talat Sao – the morning market. Silk and clothing, religious trinkets, DVDs, electronics, and handicrafts are also on offer, and the entire complex is air conditioned, making for one of the more comfortable market experiences in Southeast Asia.

One of Vientiane's top tourist sites is Patuxai, the Victory Gate. Patuxai is a monument in the center of Vientiane that is embellished with mystical Buddhist and Hindu figures and features a viewing platform at the top. Another site, just outside the city center, is Buddha Park, where more than 200 cement statues of Buddhist and Hindu figures inhabit neatly trimmed gardens.
