Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula Resort
"very pleasantly surprised, shocked you might even say, at what a great deal this was, especially over Chinese New Year when everything else was either booked solid or crazy expensive. the rooms at Peninsula Resort are first-rate, very spacious and luxury-minded. I've stayed 5-star across the globe, and this compared favorably. The Sheraton Four Points (located right next door)is, as to be expected, a step down, but still reasonably nice. sort of Ikea-level quality.
In general, service was excellent, with friendly staff handling all our needs very courteously. when there wasn't a shuttle avlbl to the airport, the guest services manager came right over and sorted it out for us personally. breakfast buffet was awesome. the western food restaurants could do a much better job at lunch/dinner, though. and the bar needs to have its desserts/cocktails ramped up a bit. Chinese restaurant was impressive and pleasantly affordable.
I would highly recommend this deal to anyone looking for a relaxing get-away in China. and if you're planning to go to Hainan, definitely this is a much better place than anywhere in Sanya. the only downsides are that there's not much to see in the nearby area except construction sites, and everything is very spread out in Hainan Island so you'll need to take a long taxi ride if you want to go out anywhere -- not that there's anywhere to go, anyway. this is a place to bring a good book and just chill by the pool, or perhaps play golf if you're into that. wish the hotel would bring in some jet skis or something to liven the place up a bit, as it can get boring after a while just vegetating by the pool or on the rather lonely (though beautiful) strip of beach. Hainan isn't a place to meet interesting travelers,so be sure to bring someone you like.
beware that the airport in Sanya is about 1.5 Hours away and costs 500RMB in a taxi. hotel shuttle is free, but you MUST reserve 24 hrs in advance, and it only runs about 11.30am-10pm."Show more
