Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel
Yala Tissamaharama,Yala - View on map
"We only stayed in Cinnamon Wild for 1 night. Its one of the most popular hotels in Yala National Park so it is packed with groups and tourists from all over. If you are not into that, you better skip it! You are surrounded by nature and animal so it is very relaxing. It is located in the middle of the National Park so it was convenient to start a Safari from there (you can book at the hotel or anywhere else around it). The hotel gave a room free of charge to our driver - which is quite common in Sri Lanka - and a discount on the food. You are advised not to leave your room alone after 6pm to avoid encountering wild animals. The food.. International Buffet for dinner. Not great but good enough. It is the most expensive hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka though. I believe it is because of Yala being one of the most popular tourist spots in the country. "

"My Husband and I went to Sri Lanka for our 1 year Wedding anniversary. We were doing so much sightseeing we forgot the purpose of our trip until we stayed here. I had mentioned when booking that we would be celebrating our anniversary while staying and they had such lovely and thoughtful surprises for us. We got a really nice cold refreshing ginger ice tea upon arrival. They had gone to the trouble of spelling out their good wishes for us on the bed with coconut tree leaves and later that evening when we had finished our meal, all the waiters, the waitress and manager brought us a specially made anniversary cake with one candle for 1 year married. We got such a surprise I almost got emotional, they all congratulated us, we were so happy. Housekeeping staff were very nice too and noticed we had taken a flower into the room that we liked, the next day he had picked us a bunch and put them in a vase in our room. The room was always very clean, we never needed to ask for anything. I can't say enough good things about this Hotel and their staff. They should be very proud. They made our trip to Sri Lanka very memorable, memories we will cherish."

Chaarya Resort and Spa by Chandrika Hotels
Yala Tissamaharama,Yala - View on map
"One of the most pleasant stays we had in Sri Lanka. The hotel staff is absolutely wonderful with attention to every detail and possible need you may have. Simple gestures like presenting your welcoming drink and packing your breakfast from your early Yala National Park safari trip made the stay truly memorable. They even provided accommodation for a driver we had hired for our 6-day trip around the island. The place is simple in decor. A palm tree garden divide the two rows of rooms, terminating with a small pool for a dip after a sweltering safari trip. There is also a spa available in the resort offering ayuvedic treatments. Internet is available only in the lobby."

Jetwing Yala

"We travelled 12 days and stayed in 8 different hotels in Sri Lanka. This one dedinetly made it to the top one. 10 min from Yala National Park entrance, with beach and extremly long pool. The breakfeast was huge and quality of food also for dinner was excellent. We finally again could enjoy good espresso :), which is not always easy travelling through Sri Lanka. Rooms are big, with bathroom nearly the same size as the room. People working in the hotel have been very nice too. Definetly a place to come back again!!!"

"We stayed at Chena Huts for two nights during our two week honeymoon vacation to Sri Lanka & the Maldives. The property is situated just outside the Yala park. The accommodations are beautiful and the staff is so friendly. It is unlike any other place we have ever visited and we would highly recommend. Definitely make sure you do at least one afternoon safari. "

Laya Safari Hotel
Yala Tissamaharama,Yala - View on map
" Beautiful hotel with imaginative architecture; modern twist on indigenous Sri Lankan styles. Buildings raised on heavy stilts with big balconies overlooking the beach and steeply pitched corrugated iron roofs. Lovely infinity pool, long enough to swim and do proper lengths. Beach long, gorgeous and completely deserted although the sea was too rough to swim in. Lovely villa room from which we saw outside iguana, wild boar, rabbits and monkeys who enjoyed playing noisily on the roof one morning. Very cheerful and helpful staff. I particularly want to mention SUSANTHA who looked after us really well all the time, especially at meals and kept an eye on his younger colleagues whose English was not as good as his. If he's not the manager, he could and should be. This man is a credit to the hotel. Promote him! On the negative side: aircon unit placed directly above the bed which is a design error. Couldn't turn it off completely. Buffet dinner first night was very tasty but only lukewarm. Front door scraped on the floor every time we opened it. Finally please stop playing banal western pop music all day long all around the hotel. We get plenty of this at home and as most guests come for the beauty and peacefulness, it's a shame that pap-pop should compete with the natural music of the birds and crashing waves. Very convenient for Yala game reserve as it is only 5-10 minutes drive from park entrance gates. I'd definitely stay there again without hesitation. "

Saraii Village
Yala Tissamaharama,Yala - View on map
"Saraii Village was the most unique and amazing place we've ever stayed in. When I booked the place online, i was not sure what to expect but my family and i were thrilled to see this hideaway in a Werawilla. You come down a short distance down a dirt path (which was a little eroded due to the recent heavy rain) from the main road and you come up to a large garden with lots of trees, vegetable plots and flowers with the tree houses and mud chalets giving it a very surreal feel. I had booked the mud chalet which was large and beautiful but when my kids saw the tree houses they were so excited that the kind hotel manager offered to switch our reservation to the tree house. Thankfully the tree house was free that day. My kids went up to the tree house and we were unable to get them down for the next several hours. It was such a wonderful experience to sleep up on the tree house. It was so comfortable and the tree house was colorfully decorated with comfy cushions. Waking up on the tree house was amazing as the tree sways with the wind and you wake up for the singing of the birds, especially the peacocks. The hotel arranged for a Safari ride in Yala for us and the jeep picked us up by 5.30 for the morning game ride, which was the best experience ever, we had two sightings of leopard and quite a number of elephants too... The hotel gave us packed breakfast with bottles of water, which was very convenient for us. The jeep driver sorted out all our entrance requirements, which was great as we were still a bit sleepy. We were one of the first jeeps inside Yala and the ride was fantastic. I must say that Saraii had the best local varieties of food we've had on this trip. The food was the "real" Sri Lankan food. My daughter who doesn't much care for vegetables, had second helping of sri lankan vegetables, and wanted to know if we can take back some home. Saraii is for travelers like us who like to experience new things with a unique style of its own."

Mandara Rosen Hotel
Yala Tissamaharama,Yala - View on map
"Good hotel near Kataragama with all required facilities and a pool with underwater music. Close proximity to the temple. Rooms are spacious and clean. The only negative point is the safari services arranged by the hotel. I would recommend the hotel 100%, but not it's safari services. The safari guy charged us unnecessarily even though he rejected the necessity of a guider although we have asked for a guider service. But he charged us for that service. Since I have been to Yala many times, I knew the surrounding, our driver took us in small routes and finally ended up after seeing few elephants. The negative point was, he was late to start the safari, he refused to have a guide, he didn't provide the receipt until I gave cash, he charged for guider service although hardly explained anything to us. hotel is recommended as it's my third stay there. But never use the safari service provide by hotels. Better to source something on your own by travelling to Yala. Do not reply on the hotel for Sarafi service. "

More about Yala

Yala is located in Sri Lanka’s Moneragala District, home to the famous Yala National Park which is divided into five distinct blocks. The area is served by Mattala International Airport, offering connections to domestic and regional cities.

Of course, the biggest attraction here is Yala National Park, which is one of Sri Lanka’s most visited places and definitely worth a visit. The park is divided into five blocks, all of which are home to different greenery and animals, some of which serving as conservation sites for important animals such as the Sri Lankan elephant and leopard. Visiting the park is best done with a guide or a clear plan of which blocks to visit.

If there’s any time left after exploring the massive national park, a visit to Kirinda Beach may be a nice way to relax after spending days hiking and trekking around the park. There are several hotels concentrated around the beach, ranging in price and size from luxurious beach resorts to simple guesthouses to suit any need.

Yala covers a very large area, featuring many interesting parts. Find out where even more of the hotels, attractions, and must-see destinations of Yala are located by exploring the interactive map on this page.
