Richmond Hotel Yamagata-ekimae
Yamagata,Yamagata - View on map
"I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and was impressed with the value I got from my stay. I paid about USD50 per night for this business class hotel and will definitely returns owing to its superiority on: 1) location - the hotel is located just a mere 500m from the Yamagata train station and regional inter-city bus station (to Sendai, Zao Onsen, Kaminoyama). The hotel is also near to numerous eatery outlets and just sits next to a local supermarket (Max Value) and convenience store (7-11). In addition, it is about 1km away from the Kajo Park & Castle, Yamagata museum and Museum of Art; 2) staff service - staff at reception speaks fair amount of English to enable effective communication; in addition they are very helpful to address my travel needs eg. helping to call a travel agent to book Zao Snow Mobile which could only be booked via phone in local language; 3) amenities like self service laundry, vending machine and even a smart phone for making local calls and internet connection"

"Location was good, very close to main transportation line. Room was also bigger than most hotels. However they do not provide free wifi. There also is no "Do Not Disturb" sign. "

Yamagata Grand Hotel
Yamagata,Yamagata - View on map
"This is probably the biggest room I've ever seen in a hotel in Japan (considering I paid the rate of a budget hotel). Hotel is a bit of a walk from Yamagata station but it is near a mall and some food places so I'd say it's a convenient spot once you have arrived. Everything would have been great if not for the pillow that felt like a sack of rice. "

Hotel Metropolitan Yamagata

"Most of the Metropolitan hotels are just beside the JR stations and Metropolitan Yamagata hotel is itself in the station building. I have stayed in this hotel a few times and I like the excellent location. The room is clean and spacious. There are many eateries nearby and also a shopping centre in the building. I strongly recommend this hotel for first time visitors to Yamagata."

Traveler impressions of Yamagata

More about Yamagata

Yamagata city is the capital of Yamagata prefecture, on the island of Honshu. Yamagata Airport serves the city, as well as the Yamagata Shinkansen bullet train service which operates several trips from Tokyo.

The main tourist attraction to this area is the mountain temple village of Yamadera, which is the sight of the very popular Risshakuij Temple. There is a very famous haiku penned by the poet Matsuo Basho, making this temple and the area a favorite destination for many tourists, especially those from other parts of Japan.

The charming and elegant English Renaissance-style architecture of Bunshokan Museum is one of the reasons it’s such a beautiful place. The artistic and historic artifacts that make up the collection are further reason to spend at least a few hours exploring it.

There’s much more to see and do in Yamagata, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this exciting city.
