The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly, the bed was comfortable, the AC worked well, the room was well insulated from street noise if you closed the window, and the restaurant was tasty and affordable, especially the Indian menu.

I had some trouble with the electricity in my room (there was a very finicky card reader to turn it on; after the 2nd time I had to ask for help they gave me a second room key so that I'd never have to touch it again), I had only one warm shower in the 6 days I was there, and the single elevator was very slow, but I can forgive those things in light of all of the positives. Recommended!

If you want to feel as if you were really in Zanzibar, this is the place. It's a beautiful old building with interesting architecture and old-world furnishings The staff was very welcoming and helpful, especially with my six Tanzanian students.

The rooms were comfortable, well-appointed, and clean. The breakfast buffet was large and good. I arranged a reasonably-priced walking city tour through the front desk, and the guide was excellent. You must climb stairs to the rooms, but I believe they are installing an elevator.

Kisiwa House is superb in every way for a traveller who wishes to experience genuine Zanzibari hospitality without scrimping on familiar home comforts.

The newly-renovated house is spotlessly clean and immaculately decorated with sumptuous fabrics. With only 11 guest rooms spread over 3 floors, there is a generous amount of communal spaces on each floor, with a gorgeous ground floor semi-open courtyard. I stayed in a Dharani room on the third floor, on the front side of the hotel. The narrow corridor-like streets will channel sound from the street, but that is part of experiencing Stone Town. I stayed during the quiet season, but Kisiwa House remained fully staffed and on top form. On one of the evenings when I was the only diner on the fourth floor restaurant, the kitchen was in execution mode nonetheless and my welcoming waitron served one delicious course after another in very timely fashion (which is not the usual pace in Stone Town). The location of Kisiwa House is also excellent, with all the major heritage sites and other landmarks (like Africa House, Forodhani Gardens) all within easy walking distance. To find your way back, turn at the DHL sign on Kenyatta Road.

In all we had a great week at Coral Rock Hotel. We really appreciated the location just by the beach and at the same time in the small village of Jambiani.

This creates a good mix of tourists walking along the beach at low tide and local people playing football or working at the seaweed farms. The food at the hotel is excellent. One piece of advice, remember to order well in time before you get too hungry, it can take between 30-60 muniutes to get the food - still, it is well worth waiting for.

A very decent well-managed hotel. It is located close to the Market (a city attraction). The staff were very helpful and caring.

Beautifully restored building houses a restaurant downstairs and a handful of rooms upstairs. Our rooms were spacious , beatifully decorated and simply furnished in traditional style; one overlooked the garden but the other had a poor view over rooftops.

Restaurant serves delicious local Style food, maon courses coat about 12-15 dollars- good value. Overall highly recommended.

We only had one night stay at Jafferji and wish that we had stayed a lot longer!! The location was amazing, smack down in the middle of Stone Town with a lot of cool dress shops nearby.

On arrival, we were told that we had been upgraded to the roof-top 'Jafferji Suite' which was just an unbelievable room, we felt like royalty! We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the food was fresh and delicious. Service was fabulous too, they did everything to help. Thank you!

Hotel is at the edge of Stone Town, so it is a great place to start looking around. Great and friendly staff, they arranged my pick up at the airport, even my arrival was at the middle of night.

Nice view over the ocean from the restaurant, so it is very nice start of the day on the morning. Nearby is ATM machine, so you will not run out of cash. Overall impression was very good.

I loved this hotel. Set on the ocean, with a lovely garden inside, this hotel is a wonderful place to unwind.

At low tide, it sits on a broad, sandy beach, perfect for long walks. At high tide, its broad wooden deck with sunbathing and a restaurant is literally on the water. In the evenings, sitting out on the deck in the moonlight, with fish swimming immediately below, is breathtaking and romantic. The hotel staff is highly professional but personal enough to make you feel at home. The breakfasts are great and include both local Zanzibar items and international fare. The dinners feature fresh fish (and many other choices, including vegetarian) with curry or masala sauces. The mood is relaxed, low key, simple and very nice. The garden-facing bungalows feel private. Each has a veranda, and inside a large Zanzibar-style bed, lots of space, and is maintained as well as a very upscale hotel. The hotel guests ranged broadly in age and nationality, making it a place where everyone can feel comfortable.
