The hotel is located in the midst of the famous nanluoguxiang. It was bustling with life at night with tons of yummy food. The room was nice especially the toilet (totally modernised). Good experience for those who like ancient stuff. Friendly and helpful staff!
a great stay in beijing”
We arrived very late a night, even though hotel is difficult to find in hutongs, the lady from the hotel waited for us outside to help taxi find its way. The hotel is conveniently located next to Houhai area
Exceptional room and services ”
It is a well kept old courtyard style hotel in Beijing. The services, facilities and location are exceptional good, you can easily access to all attractions, coffee shop and restuarants. I have a very pleasant stay in here. Highly recommend it to every visitor who want to expereince an unique old Beijing.
Charming hutong hotel with big open courtyard”
Pluses: - Great Locations. 100 meter from NanLuoGuXiang, walking distance to Drum Tower - If you know how to use the bus, you can also get to all the major tourist sites - I love the Chinese courtyard architecture and how it makes you feel you have been transported back in time. - Clean room and quiet. Good sound proofing. - Polite staff. Helpful staff. Minuses: - Not all taxi drivers know how to get there. Your taxi might not be able to park and let you get off quickly since that street is full of traffic and even more chocked at night. - Small room with no space for luggage. So, you might have to maneuver carefully around the room.
SUper Cool Traditional Chinese Living Space”
This is a very cool hotel. Location is a bit difficult to find by taxi driver. But it is connected to a main shopping street. Can take off in the street then walk there. On the way when I'm walking to the hotel, I was worrying about if it would be too noisy since it's just next to the shopping street. But then I found it's totally another world in there. The servicers are very nice there. And the space is very comfortable. The design is a bit modern chinese but still match with the old tradition. It just works out perfectly. ;)
cosy hotel with homely feel”
Highly recommended for couples looking for a nice, romantic and not too noisy environment. This hotel offers a very homely and cosy feel. I feel like we are a big family living there. I woke up on my second day to falling snow! You will not get the feel if you stay in a high rise cosmopolitan hotel.. you can jump into the snow as and when you feel like.. For a relaxing walk, take a stroll down the street.. many retro stalls selling souveniors... also, i chanced upon this xijiang skewers stall which is 50m away from hotel, high recommended... very nice and authentic bbq!
Strongly recommend for a short stay”
My girlfriend & I stayed here for one night at Christmas. And we were extremely impressed by the friendly & helpful staff and nice courtyard view in this hotel. Out of it you can find many most famous Hu Tong in Beijing, where you can have a lot of fun eating, sight-seeing, shopping, etc. However the room temperature in the hotel is kind of lower than we have expected, which might be a small problem in the cold winter.
Historical beauty with modern comfort”
From the moment we walked through the double doors and into the wooden entrance foyer we knew we had found something special. This hotel is really a series of traditional residential buildings surrounding a courtyard. As we were guided through to our room it was literally like walking onto a historical movie set. After being blown away by the beauty of the place I was initially worried by its antiquity as we were arriving just before winter and I was unsure of whether our room would be heated adequately. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was our room tastefully refurbished in period style, but had geothermal floor heating on top of the standard split system heater/cooler. The friendly staff (who spoke English) repeatedly helped us during our stay. On arrival they provide a small booklet with taxi directions and some basic words in Mandarin which we found invaluable. They also helped us to book tickets to a concert and answered the many varied questions we had. They have a restaurant on site which we ate breakfast at but we found ourselves often eating out for dinner. This was not due to any fault of the restaurant but due to the location of the hotel. Before arriving I expected this area to be somewhat staid and picturesque due to its location in a historically protected Hutong area. Instead, I found it to be incredibly bohemian - full of trendy shops, restaurants and niche bars with jazz bands. As such we found ourselves eating out and enjoying the immediate sights and sounds on offer. The hotel itself however is blissfully quiet and no noise from the outside penetrated its stone exterior walls. I was somewhat hesitant to write this review as I feel I am giving up a secret - this place is simply fantastic! If I ever come to Beijing again I will be staying at Courtyard 7.
Don't miss this experience”
Sure, you can stay at a large corporate chain or at a good, mid price, western style hotel in the center of the city, but why? If you have traveled all the way to Beijing for your ultimate China vacation, treat yourself to a bit of old-style Chinese authenticity. You should stay at Courtyard-7 and experience life in a hutong. We had concerns about the neighborhood, but this is almost too upscale. Heck, there is even a Starbucks right around the corner. The staff at the hotel work hard to answer your questions and to take care of your needs. Since it is practically impossible to drive to the hotel, a staff member walked all the way out to the main street to walk us in. And, they got us ice (which isn't always easy to get in China) at 10:30 one night. Located an easy 10 minute walk away from the Beijing subway (Nanluoguxiang stop), you can go virtually anywhere in the city. The rooms are small and come with the basics, but you didn't come to Beijing to stay in your hotel and Courtyard-7 puts you right in the middle of the action!
LOVED our experience at Courtyard7. We stayed in a deluxe room which was lovely - quietest sleeping quarters ever. We loved the neighbourhood - be sure to stroll around the Back Lakes area - fantastic day and nite. Staff both at desk and in the restaurant were terrific, really nice and helpful. Desk arranged a driver to take us to Mutianyu for the day...trip highlight!
Hutong: the old Beijing”
The hotel is located just west of Nanluoguxiang and thus very central within the hutongs. The service at the reception and in the breakfast was very friendly. The room was big and clean and felt very authentic (but luckily was a lot warmer that what I would expect to be authentic). The bathroom was also clean. I would have loved to see the huskies more often but they were locked away as someone was afraid of them :/
Great value, location and staff”
The old world charm and the hutong location is unbeatable. My room was perfect for a solo traveler. The courtyards were nicely kept. It was very peaceful yet just steps away from Nan Luo Gu Xiang. The staff was also helpful and kind. I had to leave early on the day of my checkout so they packef a to-go breakfast for me.
I stayed here for 2 nights, on holiday with my 10 year old daughter. Overall, it was an excellent stay. The room was kept clean, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was nice and modern. The best about our stay was the breakfast -- particularly the fresh fruit, bacon and fried breadsticks. There are lots of other choices as well. The only downside that I can think of is if you have lots of luggage or travelling with little children. Taxis cannot drop you off at the door and it is a good 5 minute walk on the bumpy cobbled streets. Also, the area can get really busy with people. The hotel itself has lots of steps so if you have lots of luggage, it can be a hurdle. The metro is a bit of a walk too, maybe 8-10 minutes. If you are really tired at the end of the day, just take a taxi and make sure they drop you off at the northern section.
We had only 24 hrs to spend in Beijing and this had everything we wanted. Awesome location (A longish walk to the Forbidden City, but doable) near restaurants and shops, great ambiance and very comfortable rooms.
Honestly, I loved it here. To go to China and only stay in Western style hotels seems to be missing an opportunity to do what you are there to do - learn and experience something unique and beautiful about China. This place is both. You will walk by the little alley it is on, the first time. Just accept that - it is no big deal. It is that little bit of being off the beaten track while still being accessible to so much that is part of why this is such a great place. I don't know who is hiring the staff but they have done an excellent job. Each and every person we met was exceptionally nice and went out their way to be helpful whether it was the personnel at the desk or at the restaurant. I hope it never changes.
Beautiful jewel in the hutongs”
Great location in a trendy hutong near the old city. Very authentic decor. Heated floors all over and our own sauna. Felt like being back in imperial China. Staff extremely helpful. Could do with better coffee.
Location & Charm Can't Be Beat”
Courtyard 7's hutong location is fantastic. Direct access to many good options for food, drinks and late-night hangouts, and lots of little character-filled shops. It's great that the hotel itself is tucked away and quiet, yet so close to so much activity. The train station is a 10 minute walk away. Many other interesting neighbourhoods are close by, as are some of Beijing's main attractions. While the English-speaking level of the staff was certainly good enough, don't expect native fluency. The rooms are small but ample (daughters' quarters in the back), though they did lack a closet and ironing board. The bathroom was roomy and well-appointed with almost all the necessary toiletries - razors, shampoo, body wash, shower caps, bed slippers etc., even a nail file, but no lotion. It was easy enough to find one at a nearby convenience store. The breakfast spread was quite adequate. Cannot speak to the quality of other meals as we were always out for lunch and dinner. All in all, a great little place and we would happily stay there again.
great choice to stay in Beijing”
Our stay at he Courtyard 7 was well up to all of the excellent reviews we had read on Agoda Great location amidst the lanes of the hutong and close to the subway/bus routes for seeing the "Central Axis" of Beijing. The Staff were very helpful and the food in the restaurant was excellent (though probably cheaper outside if you shop around). Taxis may not be keen to weave up the tight lane the hotel is on, but should get you close and people you ask know the hotel.
a special little place ”
If you are looking for a hotel that is slap bang in the middle of the hutongs and back alleys then this is the place to be. Set in a 400 year old courtyard, two minutes from one of the famous shopping alleys and about 30 mins walk to the forbidden palace. The rooms are beautifully presented as is the rest of the hotel. The food, whilst expensive, is delicious an dthe complimentary breakfast is excellent. The staff are simply superb and will offer everything you need from restaurant tips to tours. The only minor drawbacks are finding the place but the hotel has even taken care of that with a handy print out you can hand to the taxi driver; and it being miles from a metro stop. But I am being very picky. A really excellent hotel.
It was hard to find and I sincerely wish they would provide those downloadable PDFs giving instructions in Chinese to the taxi drivers with a map on which hutong its at. But after you've reached this hotel, its just perfect for that immersive local culture. Its amazing how the street life is so bustling right outside all day and night outside but it is so quiet and peaceful inside the courtyard. The staff were so attentive and friendly. They are so transparent with their fees and they offer the most competitive rates, no over-promising, just value for money service in a unique and very charming hideaway in the heart of the city. Must come to this charm!
