the location is very good, less than 10 minutes walking to the centre of the old quarter and yet away from the most noisy streets. We got the room on the 4th floor, which was nice. Staff really helpful and friendly. Good budget hotel to stay.

      Beautiful room at good location”

We stayed in a beautiful superior room with balcony, bathtub, mini fridge and AC for the same price as a standard room (we were lucky). The location is very good as it's in the Old Quarter. The staff was friendly and booked a taxi for us to the airport and made breakfast for us (only 2 dollars pp) as early as 6.45 AM.

Pho and Bun noodle soups just outside. Location really good and quiet area at night. Definite return next time in Hanoi.

      Great location & helpful staff”

Three of the best things were: location, helpful, and location.

When we first arrived and they didn't seem to be able to find our booking, but they took us to a room which was definitely not the room that was shown in the photo on the Agoda website! When I refused that room they gave me another which was an excellent room, so all problems solved. The staff were really helpful The staff were incredibly friendly had to be really nice and Siri is a stupid machine because it's not working showing us where to go for Bia Hoi and other useful things! The location is great... Walking distance to all the sights around there! A note of caution! Construction across the street so it could get a bit noisy from about 8am, OK for me but if partying till late could be a nuisance. We only booked for one night as we usually do so we can check out the hotel, but stayed for 4 nights.

simple but cheap and very friendly”

      staff, location

I stayed only one night in this hotel, as I travelled further. The room was simple, but big and with a balcony (got upgraded upon arrival). The bed and bathroom were ok, for this price category even very good. There is aircon and even a safe, although I didn't use the latter. The breakfast is simple. The staff ( a family) is very friendly and offered me free coffee when I had to wait 2 hours for the bus. Location is very good, in the old city, within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. All in all, I think the value was very good!

Rooms at the front with balconies are excellent

Rooms at the back are not so good. no window!!!!! We paid the extra cost for rooms with balconies, and two from our party of 3 had back rooms for 1 and 2 nights respectively. Very helpful with booking tours.............. but, we were overcharged for train trip to Hue from Hanoi. We paid for soft sleepers,,but got hard sleepers instead. Did not know this until we got on the train. The agent at the hotel assured us that we had soft sleepers.

      no best of mikes hotel

Mikes hotel dirty and the bed so hard that you will be sick. Hotel receptionist and the hotel manager Mikes hotel is a great liar and deceiver. We are very disappointed and deceived by Mikes Hotel, they provide the tour with a very expensive and promising superior class but we are placed in the cheapest class to travel HalongBay. Imagine we bought a tour package per person is $ 105 but the market price is $ 50-65. I recommend not to come to this hotel. A good option for Hanoi”

Location is decent, air con worked well, hot water, and breakfast was a nice touch
The hotel could use a coat of paint.

For the money and location this was a good fit. Internet worked well, the included breakfast was nice, and the location was somewhat central. The staff was very helpful and spoke good English. They booked our tour to Halong Bay and even helped my girlfriend find a new blowdryer when her's broke. The hotel could use a new coat of paint but that is a minor detail to look past when shopping for a low budget option.

Fantastic hotel in the Old Quarter.”

Very friendly and polite staff; very comfortable rooms, very good rates, good location, nice breakfast.
      None.

Mike's hotel is a wonderful little hotel located on the edge of the old quarter making it's location ideal for access to the centre of the old quarter and the sights of the city. The staff are excellent, always very polite and friendly and willing to help at any time. The room was also extremely comfortable (some of the most comfortable beds in Vietnam in fact) which came with a TV, a fridge and equipment should you be travelling with a laptop. The icing in the cake was the lovely balcony that was accessed via French doors where we were able to sit and watch the world go by in privacy. The breakfast was also very nice and, though perhaps a somewhat more limited menu, it was always made fresh and was very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mike's and I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Hanoi.

Mikes Hotel's location is very good and the staff are very helpfull and cheerfull. There are a few good local food restaurants around. Just ask the receptionist about it. The only thing they need to improve is to make the windows more firm and better so the noise outside will be substanialy reduced. Overal Mikes Hotel is very good.

      An excellent family hotel”

The staff were fabulous. The location is right in the old quarter and walking distance to Hoan Kiem lake as well as to museums etc. Rooms were a good size with own bathrooms. Excellent cash exchange rate. Pay TV. Free breakfast.
Beds were very firm, lumpy and uncomfortable. A leak in the bathroom meant it had a constantly wet floor. Authentic old quarter noise levels (Noisy).

We booked into Mikes Hotel initially for 3 days but ended up spending every night of our stay in Hanoi with them due to their excellent customer service, location, price and large rooms. They provided a map so we could find our way. The free breakfast was excellent with a choice of fresh bread, noodles or pancakes with tea, coffee or juice. They were very helpful with booking tours and cooking classes and you could even get them billed to your account. They also offered excellent cash exchange rates in both directions. We also received free airport transfers.

Two visits to Hanoi 27 Feb and 2 Mar 2010”

Mike's Hotel was well-located in the old quarters and near Hoan Kiem Lake. Rooms were adequate, good value for money. Internet was provided in the lobby with two computers. Breakfast was good. Staff was the best part of our stay, very helpful and friendly.
Being a small hotel, Mike's Hotel do not have an elevator, and would be a disadvantgage for older travellers, as the lowest room is up two flights of stairs.

Upon our first arrival at Mike's Hotel at noon on February 27, 2010, the receptionist Ngoc offered to give us welcome drinks while we checked in, but we declined as we were on our way to lunch. We did have the varied choices of drinks when we actually came back and went to our rooms. Our party of four includes myself and three daughters, and we were place on the 2nd and 4th floor. When I requested a lower floor room for our return on March 3, we did get the lowest one. The breakfast was a choice of various meats with the local French bread, Ban Mee, and Caphe Sua, the Vietnamese drip coffee, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Ngoc went out of her way to get us tickets to the water puppet show, and another staff, Khuyen, ran errants to buy coffee and filters on our request. We would return to Mike's Hotel if we go to Hanoi again.

Hotel is very good for comparable price range in Hanoi. Bed was a little too hard for me. A little noisy with motorbike's sounding there horns all night, but that's Hanoi.

very close walking distance to many sightseeing attractions, shopping, food, bars, etc. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Recommended for younger travellers (20-40). Book a suite, you can't beat that price, plus you get a balcony.

Very warm service, value for money, very clean, you can book all your tours in northern vietnam.
      Absolutely nothing

Having heard not so good reviews about Hanoi i didn't have very high expectations for Mike's hotel. The hotel is located in the centre of the "Old Quarters" along one of its many alleys. At first sight, it was less than impressive, the exterior was old and its entrance was cluttered with motorbikes. However the moment you step in, a the bellboy will usher you to the dining area and offer you a drink. Upon checking in, they will give you a through run though of the many things to see in Hanoi - They even provided us with a map. They provide other services such as airport transfer. Albeit a bit expensive at 14 USD, we were more than happy to use it as we were tired of all the haggling at the airport. Apart from that they also provide local tours to all the famous places in northern vietnam. Many people use this hotel as a base for all their tours. We only went for one - Ha Long bay, but we'll definately be comming back for more!
