Hotel in the middle of nowhere”
Dinner was excellent, beatiful vistas, nice welcome
Its a 2 hour very slow drive into the valley. The hotel is rundown, our room way dirty and the linen had old blood stains. The breakfast was expensive for only eggs and chewy bread. The owner was not taking notice of us , the family was playing computer and billard all day. The idea of nice walking tracks into the hills was also disappointed as there are only service roads to the hydrostation. Overall a complete fail.

Fantastic place with excellent food”
Location in the centre of Tahiti, delicious food and lovely staff
We stayed two nights at this hotel in the centre of Tahiti. If you wish to experience the centre of Tahiti on your own, this is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are basic, but clean and very quiet. Staff are enourmously hospitable and really care. We organised transfer with them by email - everything worked well and they picked us up in the centre of Papeete. The journey up to Maroto hotel is very sceenic as you drive along the Papenoo valley and you will see several waterfalls. From Maroto hotel you can do several walks on your own up the mountains with fantastic views and to several 'maraes' (sacred sites). The food at the hotel was excellent and really delicious (the best we had on our journey across Polynesia). We will definitely return to this hotel on our next trip to the island. Thanks again for everything.

Amazing hotel far from everything”
Quiet, remote, gorgeous views
Upon reaching La Maroto we were excited to see that it sits on a hilltop in the middle of the valley so the mountain views are astounding in all directions. It was a bit rainy along the valley while we were there so it was mesmerizing to watch the clouds stream off the tops of the mountains around us. At one point it rained and the rainbow it produced was the most beautiful, bright, and closest I've ever seen. La Maroto is very remote. There are no stores or restaurants nearby, so expect to purchase anything you need from the hotel that you didn't bring with you. The remoteness is the best attribute of the hotel. Nights are wonderfully dark and quiet. The hotel itself is quite old and rough looking. The bungalows are a great little place to stay; fairly new, and comfortable. There was no air conditioning, but the bungalow cooled down enough at night to make it a comfortable rest. There are plenty of mosquitoes so be sure to bring some repellant and keep the windows closed as it gets dark. If you want an authentic Tahitian experience this is a great choice. The staff only spoke a little English so there was a bit of a communication problem, but we got everything we needed. There is literally nothing to do there except to hike to the nearby waterfalls or marae. It felt as if we were in the middle of a rain forest far from anything... probably because we really were! The restaurant is typical for Tahiti: delicious and expensive. It's the only choice in town, so they have a bit of a monopoly if you want to eat. Overall, staying in a bungalow at Hotel La Maroto was a unique and sincere experience that many people who visit Tahiti will never even hear of. We feel extremely grateful that we had the experience and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Wonderful, peaceful and brilliant staff”
The location in the mountains, the new manager and the food
The location is perfect, the walks lovely and the view from the balcony magnificent. We were the only people there as late October can be rainy, but we had blue skies. The staff and the new manager were absolutely wonderful and the chef was brilliant. The rooms were basic but clean and the hotel is ageing a little bit, but none of that matters as the stay was great! I would hae liked to stay in the bungalows if i had the money.
