Reasonable for price”
O.K this is not the Hilton but at this price you take your chances. The room as old however despite some marks near the door and a few stains on the carpet relatively clean. The table and chairs did need repainting. I checked the bed for bugs an saw no sign what so ever. The linen while old but clean and also the pillow cases had no stains. The bathroom though very small was reasonable although the exhaust fan had not been cleaned for quite a while. Although the taps where tricky to use there was plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well stocked with coffee, tea and milk. The fridge microwave and hot plates all worked and clean. There was also pots and pans, cutlery and plates and bowls. Although no air con the large fan above the bed was good. also I noticed that another portable fan was in the cupboard. You can open the large windows from both ends and can get a nice breeze threw the room. Location on quiet street and near the tram and train station only a 5 minute walk. All in all Redan Apartments was much better than I had expected. Although not my first choice while staying in Melbourne I would consider it again if I was on a tight budget.
great location cheap price”
would stay there again very basic accommodation.comfortable good staff-close to st kilda and shopping trams trans
Convenient to local stores with reasonable price”
i think it is good that the apartment provides free parking for guest as most of the people who stays there drove. The staff were also very willing to provide information such as nearest shopping area or super market. overall it was a good experience staying at redan apartments. thank you very much.
Just Right for the Price”
We booked this place a few hours before we arrived in Melbourne. It was easy to locate and the place is quite near the Chapel St area where food shops are around. The place in itself provides facilities to cook your own food but a bit small though. Overall, with the price that you will pay, this place is just right.
A cheap conveniently located place”
i was happy that i got this last minute for nye, especially at that price. the rooms are pretty small for 3people but we managed. the shower was aweful though, you have to constantly tweek it. our fan also didnt work, but there was a stand up fan instead. not the nicest place i've stayed. but i was a happy customer.
Do not stay at Redan Apartment St Kilda East, Melbourne, Australia”
Whilst Redan apartment was economically priced I would not recommend it as suitable travellers accommodation whilst visiting Melbourne for the following reasons: 1. The fire door on my corridor was constantly kept open with a brick and people were using it as a smoking area and communal door to enter and leave the building.. It felt very unsafe both personally and a fire safety hazard. 2. It was a hostel for immigrants and temporary social accommodation. One resident on my floor had mental health issues. He was kicking doors and screaming during one of the nights. 3. The general condition of the rooms and communal hallways were in very poor condition. Dirty and filthy carpets. 4. The furnishing in the rooms were old and dated second hand furniture. 5. The staff were rude and unfriendly. However it became clear staff on duty did not speak or understand English very well. 6. The location of the apartment block was fairly close to the train station and tram line.
Great service apartment”
Our family was fortunate to stay in this place because the price is cheap and the location is quite strategic. The most impressive was the friendliness of its staff and very helpful. Our advice is just about the water in the bathroom shower is not very heavy so that makes us less pleasant bath.
Where do I even start? Our booking was made months ago, they didn't see it til we arrived. They then wanted us to move to a different apartment then to move back to theirs. They didn't then have a key to the room we were given, so they took the whole door handle off and we were locked in our room for 45 minutes while the man went away to try and find a new door lock and handle. We were then given wrong key and were locked out of our room. Fridge was broken and our food went off, the promised to resolve issue and didn't. They moved all our stuff to a different room without us there and without asking first. Got bites all over my body from the bed. Very unclearly. Awful.
good location but shame about the state of cleanliness”
The location and the hotel rate rate is good . Cleanliness was abysmal. There was no service as the reception was shut 90% of the time. No floor towels provided so when you come out of the shower you could slip. No A/C in the rooms (only a ceiling fan) so hot summer nights are uncomfortable. The car park entry input pad did not work most of the time and sometimes needed 5 to 6 tries to make it work. Car park lighting is poor at the far end , and when returning late at night did not feel safe. There appear to be a lot of drug addicted people living in these apartments. There were loud arguments heard from inside some of these rooms. The showers were basic with poor control over the temperature for any length of time. This hotel/apartment block has a lot of potential , but unfortunately the management appears not interested. Wonderful location.
easy stroll to stations”
Located in a quite area but just a few minutes walk to various tram lines. short distances to parks, beach, and tram stations. rooms were very old and looks a bit dirty. it looks as though the apartment needs a good renovation and upgrade. the good points are that you can cook and take long or medium stay there. public laundry is handy nearby. planty of brochures and free travel guide maps were available. reception was friendly and helpful . one drawback is that there was no air con in the rooms and a lot of flying insects during the night time.
Lovely Room with everything you need”
we only stayed 1 night and booked as a last minute thing, wish we had of found this earlier we would have stayed there the whole 4 nights
Really just a slum”
This was the dirtiest and most under-equipped place I have ever stayed in. I think the onus must rest with the owner (surely they must know how dreadful it is?). The staff are untrained for their roles and lack initiative. I shall be contacting both Health and Tourism bodies in Melbourne with photographs. The 'apartments' offer kitchen facilities, but lack - sufficient crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, plug for any sinks in the apartment, so why they supply washing-up liquid is a mystery. There are no bedside lights, clothes hangers, proper wardrobe doors or chests of drawers, room service (we were there for four nights), sufficient number of decent pillows, extra bedding, hairdryer, ironing facilities - I could go on. Nothing above the absolute minimum required was there. Furniture and fittings were either broken or badly maintained - and it was disgustingly dirty. We were constantly aware of the dirty walls and other surfaces. We were surprised that the sheets were clean for the first night anyway, but they came from a linen service. For a couple of hundred more for the four nights we could have been very comfortable elsewhere and avoided the transport costs and need to eat out, which we had hoped to avoid. A lesson learned!
Would not recommend ”
Wouldn't stay there again while it was close to a tram stop and taxi fare from st kilda was cheap the room had bedding that had burn holes in it hard as pillows to hurt your neck a toilet door that u had to step into the shower to close and a toilet that even with the seat down would splash everywhere. First night we stayed there was fairly quiet and peaceful the Saturday night we arrived home to vomit on the front door step and on the balcony and awoken to a fight/screaming match at 5am. No elevators so had to carry our heavy luggage up the stairs. Self contained unit to cook food but no cutlery pots or even plates ate our already made pasta in a mug
great location but small rooms”
rooms lovely and clean .given clean towels every day. if you want extras example chair knives forks just ask. friendly staff. water in shower abit slow. transport very handy just around corner.
Redan Appartments St Kilda Melbourne”
We were there for just the one night, and we were out most of the time - so it was just a place to hit late at night and sleep. To that end it was an ok venue. It is in a reasonable location with good transport to the CBD. Overall it was a little dirty with mirrors not cleaned in the main areas for sometime. The pillows were wafer thin and uncomfortable, but the bed itself was comfortable, good towels and a hot & strong shower for the morning. Not to bad for the price you are paying.
Dirty and disgusting apartment”
We've come for the F1 weekend and stayed in Redan for one night due to it's proximity to Albert Part race track. This was the most disgusting place we've ever stayed at!!! And it's in the middle of the city! Stains all over the carpet and blankets, bed bugs in the mattress, cigarette wholes in carpets and blankets. Everything looked as if it was about to fall apart. The place has not seen any repairs/refurbishments for years!!! What a rip off - probably because of F1 weekend. Not worth it! I would rather spend $50 more and stay at a decent hotel in the city.
Great location but small room”
We stayed in this hotel for 8 nights, overall speaking, it was a nice experience because the location is very good where you can get access to the city center by tram which is just few walks from the room.
Hate leaving negative reviews, but worst place ever”
Where to start? Got a call on the day of arrival asking if they could move me to their other property 20mins out of town, I declined, they insisted I would have to stay there at least the first night, lied about why. Redan appts stank of cigarettes as soon as you walked in the front door. Was promptly advised that they would be changing which room I was in after a couple days. On attempting to get in room, I nearly ripped my hand open on the bolt that had been used to fix the doorknob. And the door was really stiff one needed a hefty push to open it. On entry the room looked grotty and smelt of cigarettes. Having checked the room the kitchenette had no utensils that you could use for cooking, and no tea towel for drying up. One of the cupboards was missing it’s hinges and nearly fell on my head. Hotel advertised WiFi, in room provided it only worked when stood next to the microwave or tv. The tv did not have a remote, they could not find one that worked. Cockroach in bathroom
No air con on a very hot night & dingy- terrible!”
Our room was advertised as having air-con but didn't. We stayed on a 40 degree day and would have stayed well away if it was correctly advertised - we got a discount after the fact but it was still a very unpleasant stay. Also, it's quite a dive - cracks around the apartment door handle indicated someone had tried to kick it in at some stage!
Interesting stay ”
For the money I paid this was a good place to stay, you get what you pay for. There were a few draw backs like no lift, no air-conditioning and the cooking facilities did not work but it was only a short walk to Chapel Street. However I enjoyed my stay.
