Excellence experience staying at a Ryokan”

We wanted to stay in a Ryokan to experience the Japanese way of living. Hirashin is located in a superb location, near two subway stations (5 min walk), near Nishikin Street (3 min walk) and near Gion district (7 min walk). It allowed us to visit several destinations conveniently. It cost us about 1000 yen to reach the Ryokan from Kyoto train station. In terms of the accommodation, we enjoyed the experience thoroughly and customer service was excellent. One word of caution though, because the space is an open-concept, it gave my one-year old a lot crawling freedom. He got too excited with his new-found freedom and could not go to sleep early.

Sugiyawa at the front desk is amazingly helpful and very friendly. Location of the hotel is perfect but there is no view. If you like to sleep on the floor in a traditional Japanese experience, this place is great.

                Indoor Onsen

Hotel is well located, about 8 mins walk from the subway (three stations from Kyoto Station). Beds are tatami style, which they will set the beds up around 8pm and keep the beds at 11am. Bathroom and toilet are separated, so washing of hands need to use the basin in the bathroom. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. There is no internet connection in the room. Need to go to the hotel lounge for wifi access, so have to bear with the cigarette smell.

A good Japanese style living experience

Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel is not easy to locate but when we finally got into the room, we felt that it was worth the effort. The room is clean. We chose the Japanese style and enjoyed the experience completely. There are a lot of different restaurants and cafes nearby, so food is not a problem. Not too far from the hotel is a market. It is worth a visit.

A few minutes walk from subway station

Wanted to experience the traditional Japanese Ryokan and got Hirashin for $ a night, last minute deal. Great value. Staff speak English and there's wifi in the lobby. Subway is a few minutes walk in the heart of downtown and only a few minutes walk from Nishiki Market.

                Nice and quite neighbourbood

The hotel is located in the center of the city so anywhere is easily accessible. 5 mins walk to Daimaru Department store and Nishiki Market. Room is clean and breakfast is good. There is a public hot bathroom for both men and women located at B1 of the hotel. There are nice small restaurants nearby the hotel where you can taste good and inexpensive food. Overall enjoyed our stay there, hope to be back again.

The Japanese Breakfast while wearing Yukata was the best

it was a little bit hard to find - they should just say it is right across from the park and that would make it a lot easier. japanese breakfast was awesome, but if you want a kaiseki dinner served in your room, you need to order it the day ahead.

Beutiful hotel with the scent of japan”

A Great place for a Real Japanese Experience

An amazing place to have your real japanese experience. The morning breakfast is not to be missed. If you are the adventurous type that doesn't mind getting a little lost but asking strangers for a little help then you'll love this place. If you would rather have it all laid out then go with western hotels. I had an amazing stay though at peak season pricing of $180 Per night it was a bit expensive. The location is key very central. Kyoto is a 2 night or more stay there are so many things to see and enjoy. You will take the bus everywhere so the location is very important. I also wanted to say that if you are on a tight time line then you want to stay Kyoto Station area where there are a few other hotels. The station makes moving about a little easier since the sites are on the 4 sides of town and getting to each takes a while so you can jet back to your hotel for your luggage before catching the bullet.

                value for money

i was here for 3 nights. The hotel proved very convenient, within 5-10 mins to public transport esp as I wanted to see a lot of the sites within a relatively short space of time. Staff was friendly, and tried their best to help with any questions I had, one even hand drawn up a day itinerary listing out all the destinations i wanted to check out and methods of transports, and even what stops to get off at, in kanji. Room was reasonably large, about 400 sq ft and quite neat.

Perfect location to the food market and all Restaurants and shops
The room smell a lot of tatami but for me was ok, can be a problem if somebody has allergy...

It was a really nice experience and the staff really helpful and good service. If we had chance to have a good price with Agoda booking in advance, on Mai the price was 295 USD and this would be to much for the Ryokan. Good experience we loved.

Good place for what it is”

Big room for Japan. Clean tatami. Smoke free room. Nice unit bath. Great location for shopping and night life. Convenient for buses and trains to temples.
Japanese style rooms in a business hotel location. No internet in the room. Florecent room lighting.

Don't pick this hotel expecting to gaze at beautiful gardens from your tatami floored room. This hotel is located in a busy part of the city with no views. Now that those expectations are out of the way, do pick this hotel for it's great location and large clean rooms. It seems that Japanese hotels aren't very flexible on the check-in time rule. 4:00 pm check-in is quite late in my opinion. We got there at 3:00 and after some begging we got our room about 10 minutes later. Service was what I would expect from older Japanese men. Very detailed and by the book. I am an American in the hotel business and actually worked at the front desk in a hotel in Japan for three years. Westerners expect some personality and empathy from the front desk clerks. Japanese men at the front desk are all about dotting all the "i"s and crossing all the "t"s. If you understand that then you will say that the service is really good at this hotel. If you expect western hospitality where hotel policy is a guideline rather than a hard and fast rule you will find these guys very frustrating. If I would book again I would not include the breakfast. It was a good experience for my girl friend to try a Japanese style breakfast but I didn't like that you had to reserve a time and 8:30 was the lastest seating. For me, vacations don't come with a wake-up call and a rush to eat breakfast. I would never suggest getting all the dinners included either. Eating out is one of the best part of travelling in Japan. don't trap yourself with a set time to be back at your room to eat an average, repetative meal. I loved the location of this hotel. A block away from Nishiki Market which leads you to the shopping hub of Kyoto which then leads you to Ponchoto bar area which then leads you to Gion geisha district. I liked these better than the temples to be honest. For what I paid on Agoda I would stay here again.

A Great place for a Real Japanese Experience”

Very central to a key end of Kyoto's site seeing and night life area. A real Japanese experience if you go to at least one Japanese hotel this one though a little tricky to get to is very central to where you want to be. only a few blocks from the bus and the metro.
This is not a hotel for people looking for a western experience. you will either sleep on a comfy futon or a tatami. If you simply hate trying to communicate in limited english then this is not the hotel for you.

Hotel facilities is okay. Location is good. Staff is helpful ”

The hotel is a decent ryokan not a high end one. Breakfast served as Japanese Set which is very good. Love it. Facilities is okay. Location is perfect, close to Nishiki Market and close to convenient store. Recommended

                Location and service”

We were fortunate and challenged to be staying in Kyoto during the New Year. The fortunate part is that the staff really helped us navigate a time of year when many things are closed. The Japanese breakfast was certainly a treat, as was the spa in the basement. They were even providing samples of sake from the barrel and soba noodles to ring in the new year. The location is good if you have small children, as there is a playground directly across the street. The train and bus are nearby with easy access to different parts of the city.

                Decent Hotel/Ryokan experience in Kyoto”

The hotel is located near the main shopping streets of Kyoto. The rooms are cleaned every day, and the futons quality is good. However, some dirt remained permanently on the ceiling, which tempered our experience. I enjoyed the onsen, which was very clean and with sufficient room. However it is located is the basement floor.

Very pleasant stay at Ryokan Hirashin”

Front desk staff spoke excellent english, so it was never a challenge to communicate. They also had mandarin speaking staff, which offered a pleasant chance to practice my mandarin. The traditional breakfast was very well prepared, and staff very attentive. Room was very clean and well maintained. They prepare the futons for you at around 8 in the evening, and there are also a few traditional Kyot sweets to welcome you back to the room after a day of wandering about. There is a children's playground across the street from the hotel, which is a nice plus if you have an energetic child who wants to go on a slide or swing before /after your jampacked day out.

                Affordable Ryokan in Kyoto”

Near train station. Close to the market and food places. Quiet surroundings.

We wanted to experience staying at a ryokan and Hirashin is the affordable option. It's not disappointing at all. The staff are accommodating. They prepared our room quickly. No hassle during check in and check out. The staff also helped us find our way through Kyoto (showed us how to get to the tourist spots). We'll consider staying in this place again when we go back to Kyoto.

                Ryokan Hirashin .. Unreasonable”

We arrived at 2 pm but were told that the check in time is at 4 pm ! When asked about check out time ... Its at 10 am ! Do you really need 6 hours to clean the rooms ... very unreasonable for the price of the room. Will never come back to this ryokan. Its not even near a japanese ryokan style hotel. Stay away for me forever !
