When we checked in, there was some miscommunication and one of our friends didn't book a room. Even though the hotel was quite full, the super friendly staff quickly found a room for him, and without charging something outrageous! When do you ever see that anymore? The resort was great. Had a very relaxing ambience, the way it was set up. A very country feel. The rooms were enormous, so big we didn't know what to do with ourselves. The breakfast could have been better but then this place would have been too perfect. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay here again next time I'm up in Chiang Mai. Totally wonderful!

There are a small gym and pool, which is very useful and convenient. Also, a self-automated laundromat room downstairs as well as a basement carpark which is heavenly in Chiang mai if you drive. Housekeeping is very good and cleanliness is no issue at all. The only issue that I would have would be with the water heater in the shower as the hot water supply can become very inconsistent. Front office staff are very friendly. The apartment is still very new (been open for some 2-3 months only); I hope they keep it up!

First, the housekeeping is flawless. The towels were clean and fresh. The toiliet was dry and super clean with no single drop of water. Their bed making skill was championed. Third, its location is convenient if you have a car or a bicycle. It’s not easy to walk to Nimmanhamin rd. Anyway, everything is almost perfect. The staff are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed staying there so much.

Our room was compact but efficient and had lots of natural light. Decor was cute and everything was really clean. I liked that each room had a table and chairs outside. Staff was really understanding when my card declined and allowed us to put our stuff in the room then find an ATM to pay cash, and this was on a holiday weekend for Loi Krathong/Yi Peng. The location was quiet but still in the Old City so it was easy to walk or grab a quick tuktuk anywhere you want to go. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Chiang Mai.

Especially because I'm traveling with my family, this is of course really an advantage. Also this hotel is not far from the downtown if we want to there. The hotel also provides free shuttle van to the airport so it's really helpful for us to commute to the airport for departure. Nice hotel and food plus the other services provided such as laundry, restaurant are great.

A friend recommended this place for my recent trip to Chiang Mai. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. With all the sightseeing opportunities in Chiang Mai, I relied on their expertise to steer me in the right direction and I was not disappointed with their recommendations. I was a little apprehensive when I first entered the room and saw concrete floors that appeared unfinished, but the room turned out to be a lovely haven over the week I stayed. The air conditioners worked very well, the beds were firm but comfy, and best of all...I didn't see one ant or bug the entire time I stayed there. That is a huge plus for me!

For 300 Bht extra bed, we got soft, cheap thin mattress that we could not sleep on. Though they promised to change to the single bed mattress but they did not until we made complaint. Staffs forgot to provide the daily cleaning service. The room wall is very thin. Though it's serviced apartment, sponge and dish washing liquid are not provided.

Smith Residence is a fine introduction to a long-term stay in Chiang Mai. The location is excellent - just a short stroll to the nightly street-eats and Chiang Mai gate. Smith's long-term rates are comparable with most the other similar options nearby, and I'd hoped to book at least a month there to settle in, but... They were full for October, so I opted to book a month at nearby Noble House instead.

They had security cameras and they watched them at the front desk. They were very gracious to make a vegetarian meal for me in the mornings. The bed was hard, like all the beds we found in Thailand. It was the least hard one of all, no springs poking like some beds in more expensive hotels. The hot water wasn’t very warm and went cold part way thru a couple times.

The room we had (208) was a three bedroom and was fine. It had everything we needed, but too many ants were roaming around. The walls to the adjacent apartments were paper thin. I've lived in Thailand a long time and have never seen this. The neighbors on both sides were very loud Chinese who seemed to come back from a day out around 11PM, to promptly watch TV at a very loud volume and scream at their crying children. Luckily we had white noise sound machines to combat the noise. The WiFi was the slowest I had ever experienced in SE Asia. When I investigated, I found that the WiFi was hosting more than 6 other devices (not my own), so the password seems to have been shared and could be the cause. We got a good rate (less than $60/night all-in) which was acceptable considering the state of place but I'd take a pass on future visits.

I stayed at the XYM for over 1 year while my daughter attended an international school in Chiang Mai. The hotel is an excellent value for the money spent. It is tastefully decorated, immaculately clean and situated in a nice location away from the noise and crowds of the central "Old City", but close to everything you might need. It does not have a restaurant but food is available everywhere in Chiang Mai 24 / 7. The XYM is just 5 minutes from the airport but you don't hear any planes. There is a small upscale strip mall just 1 block away with a fine foods supermarket nice restaurants a few shops and a cool wine bar. Just a bit further is a good shopping mall. Outside the hotel entrance there's a beauty salon, liqueur store, a pharmacy and a 7-11 convenience store. Across the main road is the Old Chiang Mai Cultural Center. The have nightly Northern Thai style dance performances. A MUST SEE! There are also 2 very good restaurants at the Cultural Center. Just a 5 minute walk up the road is where they hold the weekly Saturday Walkiing Street Fair. The rest of the city and excursions beyond, can be easily accessed by the msny local pickup truck taxis (Red or Yellow) and ticylcle "Tuk Tuk".

I had only planned to stay here for 4 nights. Then I was meant to go stay with a friend. but I miscalculated and would have been checking out in the middle of Songkran, which is a terrible idea unless you like all of your belongings to be absolutely drenched. Then I was meant to go stay with a friend. but I miscalculated and would have been checking out in the middle of Songkran, which is a terrible idea unless you like all of your belongings to be absolutely drenched. So, I ended up extending for two more nights... and then another night beyond that. And then staying a night after I came back from Pai before my flight the next day. I will most likely stay here again if I come back to Chiang Mai. Located right at the Chang Puak gate, it is easy enough to walk out to the street and catch a red songtaew for 20 baht to take you Tha Pae Gate or any other place bordering the Old City. There are many distinctive and beautiful temples within walking distance in the area around the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room itself is clean and comfortable. I stayed in a room with a double bed, a wardrobe, TV, and mini fridge. Water is complimentary. There are English movie channels. Hot water shower (in an amply sized bathroom). Air conditioning. The only downsides were that there is a 500 baht key deposit that they don't let you know about ahead of time when you book. You get it back, but giving up 500 baht of your travel money to be held hostage until your trip is finished is never fun. Especially when you aren't expecting it. The other is that there are only 2 power outlets in the room I stayed in. One next to the desk, the other next to the door. Neither of them near the bed, which makes it difficult to use a device that needs charging while it charges. First world problems, anyone? All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel. Unless you are a hard core partier and want to be located near the action. Then you should stay near Tha Pae gate.

I had an amazing stay at Tawan Court. Staff was always smiling and friendly. Room is your typical "budget" style room and the A/C rocked. Bed was good, room very clean and good shower pressure with hot water. Nice and quiet location right across from the Night Market and Night Bizarre. When I return to Chiang Mai, I will stay here again for sure.

Great place to stay in Chiang Mai. It's located near the North Gate (and just a short walk to the North Gate Jazz Co-op- the best night time activity in CM). The rooms are not huge and can be a little dark since they're on the ground floor and the owner and his family live upstairs. However they've put a lot of work into designing a unique place to stay. The beds are really comfortable, but I've always been partial to futons. The neighbourhood is also quiet as it's down a small soi that's too narrow for cars.

Everything was perfect. Only problem was payment was not through Agoda (maybe because we booked in an hour of arriving) on my payment sheet but it did also mention it - we swapped a passport to wait and see if payment went through, then paid at the end of our stay and swapped back passport. Also close by Nimma Road - loads of stuff there to do.

Ban Phraya Lanna was far from downtown Chiang Mai, but their staff, even the owner herself attended to our inquiries regarding how to get to downtown in the most convenient and not too expensive way. We love the Calla Lily Botique. The rooms are spacious, super clean, and offer fabulous value for money. The location is nice and quiet, and if you have transportation, you can get anywhere you want in Chiang Mai quite quickly. We have stayed here a number of times when in Chiang Mai and would recommend it.

The room looks just as good, maybe even better than the photos. They has really considered the little touches that make a difference to our stay and we loved the local stories that they shared with us every morning when we had breakfast with them. Apartment had simple decoration style and super clean, well appointed, great WiFi, and they also helped us rent our scooter and gave us the laundry service. Lastly, great location is close to the big night market. Nee and Tum has been truly the best host we have ever had! Can't say enough about Nee and Tum or the house! 7 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

And to top it off they had the cutest 3 kittens who are always playing around.

Unfortunately the location isn't very close to restaurants, shopping or any other attractions, so when we drove all the way back one night with the intention of a swim it was very disappointing (The manager had no idea why the pool was closed). The neighborhood simply isn't very nice for walking at night with a family. In addition, the hot water heater in one of showers kept tripping the electrical and had to be reset numerous times during each shower. The room itself however was very nice, clean and the staff was very kind. Sorry, I probably would not recommend it.

i am not the type of traveler looking for Instagrammable experiences or boutique settings, and for that, Wiang Inn was a perfect place to start my stay in Chiang Mai. Ininitially booked 3 nights, then extended another 4. I get a feeling I will add another two weeks, as I write this :)

All of the recommendations we got from our hotel staff have really made our first international experience truly amazing. We chose not to have our room cleaned everyday but the cleaning service still left our promised free bottled water and tp refill outside the door for us. The hotel is 10 min walk to Maya Mall (seven-story mall) and stopped by a gorgeous temple with garden along the way to the mall. ATM, pharmacy, 7/11 literally across the street of hotel. And for late-night dinner, there's a nice local lady that makes delcious omelette for 20Baht! We booked only 1 night in advance of our trip but we ended up staying 3 more nights because we loved how convenient and easy the hotel location was and how helpful the staff made for us. Will be staying here again! Thank you times infinity Ling!

Cobwebs all over, stained/dirty curtains, stained towels, and filthy disgusting pillows. There was also mold on the ceilings. The so-called balcony was filthy and dusty. . The “hot” water barely got hot. There were bags of garbage in the hallway just sitting for hours and the housekeeper was no where in site. I’ve been in Thailand for over 4 years now. This is by far the worst hotel and staff I’ve ever encountered. Don’t stay here. Chiang Mai has plenty of budget hotels. Some are less expensive and much better value. This place isn’t even worth $5/night. Don’t waste your money!

I have stayed at Tri Gong Residence twice now and was grateful both times. I love having the biggest fridge I have ever seen in a rented room. Both rooms were spacious and kept clean, a challenge this most recent time with the very high volume of pollution from the crop burning and forest fires that made Chiang Mai the most polluted place in the world most of the time I was there. Both times it was quiet in my room even when I was there New Years eve (my first stay at Tri Gong). The reason for the lesser rating for the facilities is that the quality of the internet is poor, so travelers who work online or use the internet a lot, can be aware that this could be a challenge at Tri Gong. Thank you Tri Gong folks, for having a great place for me to stay in Chiang Mai!!

Noisy - we were given a ground floor room. The ground floor also houses the staff accommodations, laundry facility and storage and was very noisy from 5am onward. The room was much smaller than pictured and no windows. It wasn't terrible, and it was inexpensive. There are better valued rooms in chiang mai.

It would have been great if it was in a better location. tuk tuk, taxi and sangteau drivers did not want to go there from the centre of chiang mai town. Organised tour operators did not mind picking up and dropping off there though, so that was ok. Otherwise, it's a lovely place with helpful staff and a large, clean room with a big, comfortable bed. I enjoyed my stay once I was there, but leaving the hotel to go anywhere was problematic due to the transport problems...it's just too far out from town.

However I found this place seriously deteriorated. Although it still enjoys the strategic location and a very cheap price, I detest uncleanliness. The room which I had has a toilet that smells of stagnant stale musk as color collects in the basin. Staff service has pumped up where there is often a staff at the counter attending to you (it was not so in 2017). I will give a deeper thought if I were to book here again.

If you are a tourist searching for a place near the hotspots of Old City Chiangmai this place is not for you. I had business in the northeastern environs around Maejo and San Sai so this was an ideal location. This is not your typical hotel but apartments built for students at the university with the fourth floor reserved for guests. No hotel facilities or services per se; just a nice, clean, secure room with great WiFi but you are on your own for food. Should you want to go downtown but you have no car or hate the fight for parking, then carefully scurry across the main road and take a green baht-bus (20 baht) to the Watorot market (lengthy loop) then grab a red taxi from there (30 baht) or a tuk-tuk (100 baht/couple) to your final destination.

This is the second hotel we try in chiang mai. For comparison with the previous one, the standard and quality is much higher; at half the price. The location is accessible and GRAB never goes over 100 baht to the hot locations in the city. The location is accessible and GRAB never goes over 100 baht to the hot locations in the city. It's at a walking distance from a huge and affordable food court at the shopping mall plaza as well as a nearby 7-11. The room is really good standard for the price, balcony, great shower, great bed, and the staff is super sweet and helpful. We really have no complaints and are grateful for all the help we got from the staff. This hotel really made our stay so much more pleasant. We will definitely visit again!

It’s located nearby end of airport runway, so pretty noise when it’s airplane takeoff. The room were comfort with huge size and new furniture. But the water so slow, the pillow also very thick and uncomfortable. Wifi is good and clean for anything inside. Hotel just finished renovation.

Smith Residence is a fine introduction to a long-term stay in Chiang Mai. Very nice decor, comfortable, secure, good wifi (though note that short-term, they charge 50 baht per day for it), and the (optional at ~$3.50 per visit) roof-time pool is quite nece. The location is excellent - just a short stroll to the nightly street-eats and Chiang Mai gate. Smith's long-t...

This place was right next to the airport so very convient although you can here the planes taking off, it may be different from the opposite side of the hotel. There is no restaurant here but there are takeaway leaflets and they will phone for you to place your order. Other restaurants are not within walking distance. 10-15 min from the city centre by taxi.

One of the best kept accommodations in Chiang Mai. From the boss man to the cleaning staff one couldn’t ask for more friendlier people. The location is tops. I will be booking my stay at Safe House Court again next year. Try the Latte in their restaurant, it’s tops, An Elderly Backpacker.

The hotel is located in a Ninman which is sort of Chiang Mai city centre very close to the airport. The Frangipani was absolutely perfect for our requirements especially for a family with young children. The 2 bedroom apartment was spacious, absolutely beautifully decorated, was meticulously clean and comfortable. Luxami, who is the owner of The Frangipani, provides complete first-class service. Nothing was too much trouble for her and her staff. There is no swimming pool at the premises, however, the hotel next door had no problem with us using their pool every evening so the kids could cool off. For meals we enjoyed the best of being able to do our own meals after a trip to the local market, which is a 10 min walk or a myriad of fabulous Thai food a stroll away. If you want a home-away-from-home, you can’t get any more closer to perfection than The Frangipani. If you want a 5* hotel, with breakfast included and all the additional services, this is not the right place for you. For us though, it was PERFECT, and when we return to Chiang Mai (which we absolutely loved during our travels of Thailand), we will return to The Frangipani.

Traveler impressions of Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is quite a pleasant city but with a lot of traffic during day time. The area within the old city walls are good to walk around absorbing the city life and visiting numerous temples.
There are also a couple of museums. This city has a lot of history and culture.
A very different city compared to Bangkok. People are much friendlier and have a very different attitude towards tourists.
Peace and super clean city. Has many activities to do like trekking, drafting, jumping bungy etc... Food is very cheap and deliciuos.
chiengmai province is one of a beautiful romance and lovely country of thailand you will see a lot of amazing things there such as temples foods beautiful natural place elephant villege that will make you can not forget it espectialy the friendly people there.
Peaceful city. Nice place for switching off your brain for few days, self-drive friendly and a lot of hawker food bazaar around.
I Really liked Chiang Mai, it was a total change from what I experienced in Bangkok & Phuket. The people were really friendly and didn't hassle you for money.
The city is easy to get around and covered ute drivers were everywhere. It seems still Thailand, just more relaxed.
Small narrow roads everywhere you go, several taxi and tuk tuk all over, food is excellent, food vendors on every street, several malls in the area.
Hundreds of temples to visit scattered all over the city. Don't let someone talk you into paying more than 1000B for a day worth of sightseeing. Some locations are a bit of distance from the city but an honest taxi will take you around for the day for 1000B, pay at the end of your day only. The zoo is well worth the visit but there are several added expenses once inside. Tiger kingdom is expensive (500-1500B per person) but is an unreal experience too, be careful inside.
the tuk tuk / taxi price is not standard sometimes, i usually would ask local hotel staff the price as reference in advance
very nice city... much slower than Bangkok, easy to move around and able to join many outdoor activities, excellent.
Efter at have fejret jul i Bangkok var det dejligt at genbesøge Chiang Mai til nytår og at komme ned i gear i denne rolige by
Chiang Mai is now a very diverse city. Every year I travel to this city and slowly seeing this transition.
IT keeps changing to be more and more welcome to international travelers and Chiang Mai will never make you feel disappointed. IT has all kind of entertainment you search for, from great and valuable foods to hotels to shopping and spa. Even cater to those who love to venture out. I often travel there and keep changing my destinations for many years and still have other locations in the city which excite me to make a visit over and over again; for ex, hills and mountains which are scattered all over the entire city.
If you enjoy trekking, elephant camps, and drinking, this is your place. Having said that, you can enjoy all of these activites equally in Chaing Rai, for much less money, and also enjoy the White Temple, Golden Triangle, and the summer palace of the King's mother (a truly remarkable woman!)
Beautiful and good weathered City in Thailand to visit between November to January for the cool weather.
Moutains/Tree Tops dining, Tigers/Elephants camps, Zoo, Night Safari, Night Markets with several night spots, perfect holiday spot
Loved Chiang Mai - best part of the visit was visiting the Elephant Nature Park and walking the night market and culinary food tour of the night market
Hi, Chaing Mai is a peaceful city. Everything are very slow, it will be suitable for someone who need the fresh air and low noise
It is easy to get around and explore alleys because the old city perimeter is aligned to the north. Asian families would probably prefer the north west side of the old city (Nimmana)
Chiang Mai is very relaxed and enjoyable with many varied activities to choose from, a regional cuisine that is distinct from southern Thailand and great night markets.
The traffic is manageable, very different from the gridlock common in Bangkok. Elephant sanctuaries, mountains, zip lining, pagodas, temples, and many other sights are easy to visit from Chiang Mai on day trips.
Nice place and very different setting from bustling Bangkok. Beautiful Temples, Mountains to trek and lots os spas and massage.
I expected it to be cooler in temperature though, But it was hot (in last week of December). Up in the mountains it is chillier. With Fantastic Views. Must take the road trip to White Temple in Chiang Rai as well. Worth the visit.
I like this small city, it is quite and you can spend time in the city as you enjoy the local spa or you can walking around the mountain.
Very lively city, a lot to see and do. Great cooking classes. Main thing to know : tourist must stay in the city as city traffic management is verypoor : red lights take between 3 and 4 minutes, as a result it can take 45 MINUTES TO ONE HOURS FOR A MILE !
Beutiful city, warm welcome of local people, weahter is chilling during december and january. Relaxing.
A huge range of activities in and around Chiang Mai, which will suit all types. Rivers, Mountains, Caves, Gardens, Elephants etc etc Often changing, so best to consult local tour operators.
Chiang Mai is the base to go do many different outdoor activities in the mountains and the countryside: hiking, rafting, climbing, kayaking etc.
There are many spas and massages are nice and cheap.
Chiang Mai is a hub of many surrounding destinations. The airport is wonderful and modern and the transportation to and from is easy and affordable.
Chiang Mai city is rich and busy as any capitol city would be, yet somehow relaxed more than most. For example, when I was walking around the busy city I would hear very few horns being honked. I noticed how quite it was compared to so many capitol cities.
If have time, suggest to go up on hill in winter season and stay there for few days, natural view, weather, local food and friendliness of people
One of the most beautiful cities I have visited. Lots to do and see whether shopping, night life, dining, and massages for relaxing.
I particularly like the historical museums, a day trip by itself. Also visited an elephant sanctuary---wonderful working with the elephants. On a previous trip, I took a trek into the mountains and stayed with a Karen tribe. Very memorable.
Chiang Mai is most beautiful city, you can enjoy with every place and have many activities around there especially about cultural and traditional.
great place to visit the sites but I recommend renting a car with a GPS to get around in. The city can be a little confusing without a GPS.
If you like golf, there are a few nice courses in a 30 minute vicinity.
Love Chiang Mai but the decision to close bars at 12am spoilt this trip for me. During the day I am busy enjoying al the activities in the area and like my wee snooze before I go out socialising but by the time I had dinner then on to the bars I was left with about 2 hours max .
Just getting into the mood and bars close.
Nice place for those like to eat and enjoy coffee, there're a lot of coffee shop, restaurants and dessert shops in Nimmanna Haeminda Rd.
In the old city, there're a lot of historical places (especially temples). Lanna Folklife Museum is very interesting. Outside the city, there are a lot of Doi (mountain) for you to explore, trekking places and waterfall.
