The Shiv Niwas Palace by HRH Group of Hotels was once the residence of Maharana Fateh Singhji. The rooms are strategically located around a classic courtyard that was originally used for the sake of providing entertainment for Maharan Fateh Singhji’s personal guests. The suites are ornately furnished, and each contains a private terrace. Be sure to make time to sample some of the music of the hotel’s Scottish Band! As much as the interiors are grand, it will be nice to get into town to explore the wonders and capture the splendid architecture of Shiv Niwas Palace by HRH Group of Hotels from afar. City Palace, City Palace Museum, and more all within a five-minute walk. Please enter your preferred dates of stay and submit our online booking form to make a reservation at Shiv Niwas Palace by HRH Group of Hotels.

Moore Room for Your Stay”
I can't recommend the Shiv Niwas Palace enough! The hotel served as the filming location for the 007 film 'Octopussy' and was specifically mentioned as the residence for Bond during his interaction with Octopussy and Kamal Khan. The staff are remarkably attentive and strive to be as helpful as possible. The hotel is well situated within the city with exceptionally easy access to the City Palace (same complex), as well as temples and good restaurants. Rooms are ornate and well appointed, although it must be stated that cleaning staff need to take time to do some deeper cleaning of chandeliers and other hard to reach spots. The furnishings could use some refurbishing (they should remain true to the style), and mattresses could also use replacement. In short, expect an old world style of accommodation--it is charm and character you will find, not ultramodern or recently updated fixtures. As a summary, I will def. be staying here again, and it is a must for anyone who is a Bond fan!
Exceptional service from each and every member of staff who could not do enough for us. Rooms were well serviced with complimentary fresh fruit and cookies daily, newspaper and plenty of bottled water. We stayed there for 10 nights and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The bar, restaurant and stunning pool area was a welcome retreat after sightseeing etc. I would highly recommend this hotel to any visitor to Udaipur, the location was fantastic and we had a wonderful, magical experience staying there.
Royal suite, room no.6 - A dream! ”
A beautiful property within city palace. Well maintained. Lake view from the room is a sight to wake up to. Great staff - understands the importance of customer service and would go an extra mile to ensure customers are comfy. Clean. Great water. Cdntrally located. Highly recommend!
Amazing Hertitage Palace to stay at”
Really enjoyed our stay at Shiv Niwas Palace hotel. We were kindly upgraded our room upon arrival. the staff were very helpful and kind to us during our stay. Will definitely return for another stay in the near future!
Great location to explore the local streets”
Set inside the famed City palace, overlooking lake pichola.. it is a great location to explore the abundant local handicrafts on the streets surrounding the palace on foot. The famous City palace museum is 2 min away. Rooms , although clean, are below expectations for the money you pay. Choice of restaurants offer excellent food.
Truly stunning! ”
We had a great time at the Shiv Niwas. The staff were all amazing. Fabulous spa at very reasonable prices. Lovely pool. Great food. Wonderful views and a great sense of history. Absolutely loved it. We will be back!
Felt like a king ”
Great location. Very spacious suites. Excellent service. One point - dinner and coffee are too expensive
The facilities are quite old but the view and location are great.
The friendliest and most helpful hotel staff I have ever encountered. Great location, a tranquil oasis in the city with easy access to all tourist sites. The pool area is a great place to relax and unwind after a hot day of sightseeing and a wonderful place to eat at night; the photos do not do it justice, it is simply stunning in the evening/nighttime. .The food is great too, top marks for the Laal Maas and the Paneer A special mention to Bazerin (apologies if I’ve not spelt his name correctly) and the Panera Bar. It one of the most atmospheric places I’ve ever had a drink in, a beautiful room overlooking the lake and Jagmandir island and if you visit in summer, to view the clouds of bats and monkey colonies in the trees below. Bazerin, the barman, will take care of your every need and provide a potted history of the Palace and Maharanas. Well worth a trip!
The hotel itself is pretty good but it has one major problem: the food is terrible. When we were there a number of people were complaining; Indian and western. We had two meals there and decided to return the Indian food on the second occasion as it was of a mediocre standard. The staff didn’t seem to be interested as to why this was happening which in itself tells you something about the hotel. We paid £270/ night and to be honest it’s worth half that in our opinion.
A royal experience with a very reasonable price tag”
Staying at Shiv Niwas is nothing short of magical. One of the true highlights of my whirlwind trip through India, the lake-facing suite was truly palatial—with top-notch service to match. The suite's sprawling layout easily accommodated three, and included a huge dressing room, drawing room, servant's quarters, bathroom and ante-bathroom. In addition to the enormous balcony, which afforded spectacular views of Lake Pichola and the breathtakingly beautiful Taj Lake Palace, the bathroom itself featured a glassed-in balcony. Truly stunning. Already planning my return visit!
A true palace experience”
A beautiful hotel in a magic setting. Make sure you upgrade to the suites; the additional expenditure is returned triple fold as the palace rooms are the old servants quarters. Wonderful to stay in the grounds of the City Palace and to walk through without the crowds when lit up at night.
The Reception staff needs to do a better job in making sure that the guests are well catered. They were almost indifferent. It would have been nice if they had enquired if we needed any assistance in our planning/sightseeing, etc. For instance, it would have been great if we had got some assistance in The City Palace museum and boat riding tickets since these were on the same campus. The Reception needs to do more than just check-in.
Simply awesome... Stunning... ”
We were actually living in a palace complex and it was amazing ... it looks soo beautiful when lit up ... the staff is very courteous ,the rooms are very comfortable ... it is sooo sooo centrally located to everything, their Paantya restaurant serves delicious food ... the Laal Maas was lovely. ... We have had the most beautiful experience living in Shiv Niwas Palace hotel ... Thank you so much for such beautiful memories.
The hotels in great location and our suite had a great view over the Lake. Its very oldy worldy and a bit rough round the edges as a consequence. The service though was great and the indian food is first class, and the best chilled beer anywhere.
Stay in a Palace”
Part of the old Maharajah's Palace; he and his family live in a separate closed off main part. Slightly faded grandeur in the rooms but cheerful helpful staff and very convenient and beautiful lakeside location. 5.30-6pm Maharajah's guards March to play bagpipes in one of the courtyards. Surreal and wonderful.
Holiday by the lakes ”
It was lovely and so convenient being right next the palace museums and old town. The only thing I would say is that the sunset restaurant food was not 5* standard. The shiv niwas restaurant was much better.
A hotel within a palace with great views”
We couldn’t have asked for more, allocated the perfect terrace suite in the hotel with view across the lake including the Lake Palace immediately in front. A great place to watch the sunset. The suite itself was clean in white marble and attractive furniture to match. The assistance and service from the guest relations was extremely courteous and helpful. The location of the hotel within the City Palace complex was perfect for visiting the City Museum and walking into town. The only negatives were that the restaurant was a little basic and rather tawdry/shabby in décor. The hotel also does not offer any accommodation for drivers, but they provided names of hotels where you can find accommodation for them including own room, dinner, breakfast and hot water in town for about 600 rupees.
