Great Location and very convenient ”
Conveniently located in the bustling east side of Hong Kong Island. North Point MTR Station is a 2-minute walk away while the buzzing Java Road Market with many local delicacies offered can be reached in a 3-minute walk. Room is clean and cozy, bed is comfy. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel needs to be refurnished. It is an old hotel but can be renovated. Carpets badly worn and very dirty looking - in great need of replacement. Room has very very strong Clorox smell, when I informed the reception staff, the housekeeping and staff came to check and solve it out immediately. The shower head needs replacement as water is not coming out simultaneously. My dad and brother asking for Non-smoking room and yet the hotel staff gave them a room really smell pungent cigarettes. Overall good!
value but away from the action”
Great value and size for HK during busy season ...just off the main road but close to seafront and new developments ...plenty of food shops if u dont mind a small walk ......North point is very suburban and about 5 stations from wanchai ......but value for money bigger than most hotel rooms in HK and better value and just a 5 minute walk to subway and then a 8-10 minute train trip to wanchai.....overall worth the trip as great value if u dont mind being away from the action of bars and clubs!
Clean, Comfortable, Convenient location”
This hotel is old, but they maintained it well so is it very clean and bedding is comfortable. Non-smoking room had no cigarette smell. The check-in staff was nice to placed me in a room that had a gorgeous view of Kowloon when I walked out of my room. The size of the room was not too small.
Friendly & helpful staff, good location and overall good value ”
I was a little concerned about some of the recent reviews that were posted after I had booked but I can state that I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 night stay at the hotel. I was allocated a Deluxe room and found it to be really 'spacious' by Hong Kong standards. Well cleaned and serviced daily with toiletries and bottled water replenished every day. The en-suite bathroom was also spacious with an excellent shower area and plenty of hot water with good pressure. All the staff were extremely polite, helpful and friendly. The reception staff spoke English and were always ready to give helpful and accurate advise. The location is one block away from the North Point MTR station with plenty of local restaurants in the surrounding area. While a kettle and mugs are provided in the room don't forget to bring your own teabags and coffee powder! I am happy to recommend this hotel and would use it again, price dependent, of course.
A well located, comfortable & well maintained hotel in North Point.”
I was pleased I selected this hotel for my 3 night stay in Hong Kong. I was upgraded to a Deluxe Twin Bed room on the 16th floor. The room was very comfortable, well appointed and spacious especially compared to many hotel rooms in Hong Kong and the en-suite bathroom was most acceptable. There was always plenty of hot water in the shower which was also nice and spacious. A kettle and mugs are provided in the room but you need to provide your own coffee/tea and milk powder. The room was serviced daily and toiletries and bottled water replenished daily. All the staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly. Checking in and out was seamless. All three elevators worked well and the only disappointing aspect was the central heating in the room, in fact, there was none! I would suggest book a Deluxe room rather then the Standard room. I am happy to recommend this hotel and would consider using the hotel in future, depending of course, on the nightly charge out rate.
Great Value for Money and Location”
This location is great, especially if it's your first time in HK . We just took the bus from the Airport, A11 bus (North Point) and we went down to the South China Hotel station (Java Road) and just a few steps around the corner, you'll see the hotel. The area is also near the MTR station (Fortress Hill or North Point Station) so it is very accessible. The check in and check out is a breeze. The room is also spacious compared to the other hotels in HK. Within the vicinity: -There's also a wet market on the next street where you can buy magnet souvenirs for a good price (well compared to other souvenir places). -Lots of restaurants, shopping mall, some outlet stores around the area too. Enjoy!
A hotel with excellent location, good customer services and budget prices ”
You can barely find a hotel with good location, budget prices and excellent services in Hong Kong these days. South China prizes itself in all of these. Though the hotel is a bit run down, it is doing renovation at the moment to cope with the ever changing tourist environment in Hong Kong. Considering all good qualities above, I wish to recommend it to visitors who like to explore the deep quality of life of locals while enjoying good foods of all kind in the nearby district. One always hopes that breakfast will soon be returned.
Value for money”
Pros - big room for HK standard, they give good deals and breakfast is free, lots of food options around, near train station and airport bus stop is nearby Cons - hotel has basic facilities so dont expect much, a bit far from the tourist area of HK Tip - get the newly renovated rooms
Nice hotel, kind personal, good location & nearbij the mtr and bus stops.
Economical basic hotel”
The hotel is old but relatively clean. Good hot shower with lots of water pressure and best if you get the standup shower bathroom. Lots of eateries in the area and two blocks from subway entrance. Front desk is OK if you speak Cantonese. Room is good size for HK.
Repeat customers, four years. ”
Great location from airport, A-11 airport bus stop right at the front door. Close walking distance to trams, Hong Kong rail system and ferry station. Many restaurants close by from street foods to sit down restaurants.
I booked two night at this hotel. But as soon as I arrived at the room,I canceled two nights and booked another hotel. The room smells super musty. I could not breath. I am a man who don't care about cleanses because I live in Vietnam. This hotel is the best to enjoy musty.
It was near the MTR. Room was clean. They refilled our water everytime. Room was also spacious for HK standards.
okay hotel for me”
We have stayed in this hotel several times already since it is near our relatives' house in North Point. With breakfast and wifi service. Near MTR station and outlets in North Point. Easy to observe the locals also when they go to market. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Great hotel for its price”
I was so worried that it is a bad hotel because of the price. It is one of the cheapest in the area and the other are lilke 20% more However I got upgraded and the room is actually quite nice. Good size. The bed is a little too hard but I can live with that for one night sleep Older hotel but everything clean and functional.
Enjoyable Stay in Hong Kong”
Hotel is clean and staffs are friendly. Airport bus stops a short distance from the hotel, you can catch a bus to the airport near the North Point pier. Food stalls, convenience shops, supermarkets are available at every corner of the streets, there is also a wet market in front of the hotel. If you want a taste of authentic HK food and to get a view of how people live in HK, this is the place to stay.
Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The South China Hotel. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
a good average hotel staff very helpful rooms clean and tidy location out a bit but on A11 bus route MTR close by easy to get to price varies with seasons but usually ok has jug and glasses but no cups or tea/coffee otherwise satisfactory

A de facto 4 star hotel to be recommended in terms of its value, location and hospitality service”
We were very impressed with this hotel two years ago when we went to Hong Kong on holiday. We booked this hotel again when we had another holiday in Hong Kong this October. However, we were not disappointed. The location of the hotel is absolutely beyond criticism, being close to all amenities of traffic (trams, buses, taxi) accessible from the airport (the A11 route bus direct from the airport to the doors), eating stores of various kinds, supermarkets, department stores, and even local markets which are abound with fruits and food, bakery, and many many more stores for clothing and shoes. Staff at the hotel are very friendly, courteous and helpful. They all wear a smiling face with attentive manner. The hotel has been doing renovating work for some times and some of the rooms are 'well equipped' with modern facilities such as safety deposit box, fast wi fi internet and modern TV. Breakfast was good as the chef had tried to ring the changes well and other servicing staff were doing their best to help. While we were checking out but had to leave our luggage temporarily at the hotel store room because wheels of one of our suitcases were dislocated and broken. One of the female staff had graciously come forward to give us a helping hand and when we were back with a new suitcase, she has unconditionally accepted to dispose our old broken suitcase and helped us in the process of re-packing. We would like to thank her for this excellent service and manner. In summing up, we think this hotel ought to be ranked 4 stars in terms of those excellent things we just mentioned.
Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The South China Hotel and your valuable comments. As we always emphasize on the attitude of our staff, we delighted that our staff had provided kindliness and professional services to you. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
The hotel is a basis 3 star hotel and if that suits your needs then it is fine.the room had enough space to open up two suitcases but not much more.the breakfast is basic but fine and the room clean.i was sick and needed to find medical help and the staff were excellent and I rate them 10/10 for their help
