Good service. Got upgraded to Topaz hotel.”
We did not stay at this hotel as they upgraded us to Topaz hotel which is next to it. While waiting to check in, we had our lunch there. The service from service desk and restaurant was awesome and they makes us feel welcomed. We went back there for breakfast, same food as Topaz but slight more expensive which we are willing to pay because of the good service. The service from Topaz cannot make it.
Perfect hotel and perfect service.”
Warm welcome and a great time. I was probably the only guest in the large hotel. Getting to Kandy center is a little complicated. Either by climbing the steep hill or by taxi taxi for more than 1000 rupees.
Hidden gem in hills”
Excellent hospitality, excellent, excellent view, good food and very clean. Wifi was good. Guest services were phenominal, they got me a cake for my birthday. Some of the other guests were loud. Tennis court needs maintenance service.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the review of your stay at the Tourmaline. It is our pleasure to hear that our team contribution has made your trip exceptional. Your comment about the Tennis courts is well noted, and regret for any inconvenience caused. Thank you once again and hoping to see you soon,
We were welcomed with the tradition of lighting the candles ceremony by their friendly staff in their traditional sarees. We were greeted with tea and hot towels to cool down after a long drive from Colombo. We were surprised though that there were no elevators in the hotel. The facilities ie swimming pool and tennis court of the hotel look weathered. However, the scenery and nice cool weather made up for it. Especially during breakfast overlooking the nice green scenery with mountains lay as the background, it is the best place for relaxation. The manager who was on duty during breakfast was very accommodating as he always check on his patrons and asked if we need any kind of his assistance. As our 1 year old baby is not able to take any of the spicy food, he gladly offered to get his chef to prepare non spicy food especially for her. Overall, we would definitely come again to this hotel.
Dear Guest, We wish to thank you for your valuable comments. We are pleased to note that you have been happy with the arrangements, relaxing ambience and the true Tourmaline hospitality offered to you. Hoping to see you soon!
Great Hotel & Staff but not close to anything ”
This is a great getaway hotel. The staff a very attentive and scenery around the hotel is just beautiful. The buffet is excellent both breakfast and dinner. Wifi is slow and restricted to the lobby. The hotel is a few km from the city centre and there is a complimentary shuttle but only about 5 times during the whole day. There are no shops close by and you will need transport everywhere. If you have a driver they also charge you for their accomodation. These are the only downfalls. Overall it is a wonderful place to stay and really is a great hotel.
Good location for leisure”
We Stayed in this hotel for 01 night. Warm welcome received from the hotel. Staff were very cooperative. Location is good with hill view . Food is good. Since this is a sister concerned hotel of hotel Topez some of the facilities are shared. Our stay was value for money as Agoda guest.
A Genuine Gem”
Our trip was 2 weeks between Sri Lanka and India and this hotel is by far our favourite of the entire journey (having stayed in around 8 different hotels). The location is spectacular - it is a mountainside retreat and to wake up each morning with a stunning view outside the bedroom window and to eat breakfast practically in the clouds was a beautiful way to start each day. The staff too were exceptional; the welcome alone was excellent and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. It is also far enough away from Kandy centre to be tranquil but also offer a great little walk down the mountainside. Thoroughly recommended - if we ever go back to Kandy it will be the only place we stay!
Best experience in Sri Lanka!”
I would really recommend this hotel to anyone! There was a magnificent view of the mountains from our room and the lobby. Also was welcomed by the staff (Niroshi) with an interesting welcoming ceremony of lighting up the candles since we were the first guests to check in for the day. She served us vanilla tea which was presented on this cool cartwheels and was extremely friendly and efficient! Ended my night here in the quiet lobby with a shisha. Breakfast was also good with varieties. Loved my stay here!
Nice honeymoon location, food could be better ”
We came for honeymoon and the hotel went to great measures to make it feel like it was our honeymoon- room decoration, special cake made for us, and very nice ceremonial welcome. The only disappointing thing was the restaurant, which didn't reflect the 5* quality of the rest of the hotel. That said, there are plenty of good places to eat out in Kandy
Fantastic stay while in Kandy”
We stayed here for 3 days and loved it. The room was great - clean, comfortable. We had the best sleep here while travelling in Sri Lanka. We stored our bicycles on the premises (we are cycling around Sri Lanka) and were told they'd be safe. However, the day before we left, we found that some items were missing from our bikes - front and rear lights, and a multipurpose tool kit. To the hotel's credit, especially Premesh Michel who's the front office assistant manager, they tried their best to resolve the problem and helped us find similar items as replacement and reimbursed us for those that couldn't be replaced. Thanks, Premesh. Your prompt attention and action to the matter was much appreciated. If I have to fault the hotel, it'd be their shuttle bus service into town. They could run more during the day (e.g. there are only two in the morning - one at 6ish and then at 7ish, and the next one is after 1 pm). And we dud try to catch one back to the hotel from the town but it didn't turn up. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
This was the best room we stayed in in Sri lanka; the views were spectacular and the room itself was gorgeous. We truly felt that we were living the high life at a bargain price. Although some way from the town (only about a 20 minute walk downhill or get the hotel's shuttle bus) the pay-off is the views. The breakfasts were great and the pool was lovely - don't listen to this needing upgrade stuff. The welcoming ceremony was a nice touch and the staff were helpful. We all loved it there!
The views from this hotel are amazing”
The hotel is beautifully located in the hills of Kandy and looks over some of the best scenery around. The lush green rolling hills are gorgeous to wake up to. The hotel is well maintained and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast restaurant has a fantastic view and serves a good variety of food to a very good standard. The room was spacious and clean with a good shower and a comfortable bed. The pool area could do with an upgrade and some attention. The sun loungers are hard and ugly plastic which have a cushion on top. The spa was very expensive so look around for a better deal. Overall, we would recommend staying here. We visited during the off season and therefore we got a really good deal of $80 per night which was good value for money. I am not sure the normal $170 would be as good value for money.
I regret not arriving earlier and staying longer. This is a hotel I will be booking again should, I be lucky enough to visit Kandy again. Loved the welcome, room was recently renovated to a excellent quality. If prices remain the same at £50 ish offpeak then a definite must. You Would need to get a taxi as it's not walking distance to the center. This has drivers quarters. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. Overall a good experience.
Good solid hotel just outside Kandy”
The Tourmaline is located about 15 minutes walk (uphill) from Kandy city centre, which is a good distance to escape the noise and pollution of the city. Being on top of the hill, the views were fantastic. When we arrived the manager greeted us with a nice cold drink and did a welcome ceremony by lighting candles. The room was a good size and the air conditioner worked well. The bathroom was nice and worked well, always providing hot water when we needed. The room service was also good and the beds were made up nicely and the room cleaned each day. At breakfast, the chef made delicious Sri Lankan omelette at the egg bar in the restaurant and we were also given lovely fruit and offered the traditional Sri Lankan curry breakfast, this was also tasty. The wait staff were lovely and talkative, sharing insights into Kandy and being very polite too. The pool is a little bit worn and you can tell that the hotel is a few years old but it is well maintained and we enjoyed our stay.
fantastic staff , lovely food, value for money”
we enjoyed the stay very much friendly staff , great food very close to kandy but in a situation in between beautiful hills. staff is always with a ready smile go the extra mile to look after the guest
Admirable staff service ”
Hotel staff did their best to provide us the special requests made on my booking (large room, high floor, mountain view, etc). They were well mannered and always tried their best to provide us a superior service. I love the city of Kandy for its noiselessness, weather, etc and would recommend Hotel Tourmaline for your short stays.
Nice hotel. Beautiful view. Nota 4 star”
The food wasn't great, the room was not very clean. The pool is far from the hotel, they share the same pool with the Topaz hotel so it was very crowded when we got there. Overall, nice hotel. But not a 4 star.
Extremely good service”
Stayed for 3 nights at the top floor of this luxury hotel with a beautiful view of the mountains and parts of Kandy city. Hotel service and friendliness was superb - probably the best we've ever experienced. Extremely good service in both the reception (especially at arrival), housekeeping and in the restaurants. Staff very helpful. Booking of taxis and excursions may be a little overpriced, but drivers appear to be competent and good at English. If you're looking for top service and a relaxing place to stay 10 minutes away from the Kandy rush, Tourmaline is a brilliant place to spend your days.
Great views from the top of a hill”
Friendly staff welcomed us, the lobby and rooms have wonderful views across Kandy. It's up a steep hill so you'll need to get a tuktuk up (you can walk into town in about 30 mins downhill). Comfortable rooms and good bathroom. Ate a couple of times at the restuarant which was good quality. Wifi is slow and free only in the lobby.
Superb service and quality”
We spent 4 nights at the Tourmaline during our trip to Sri Lanka. Staying at this hotel really made our trip to Sri Lanka the success that it was. the front desk executive was superb and took care of us like we were the only guests at the hotel. He not only helped us coordinate everything from going into Kandy for a beer to a rafting and cycling trip, but he ensured we had a good experience and saved us money in the process. The driver met us at the Colombo airport on time and took us to Kandy (about a 2 hour drive in heavy traffic and windy roads). We were welcomed by candles, tea and a cold cloth. Our room was beautifully decorated with flowers congratulating us on our anniversary. We also received such decorations during our stay and on departure. We had a huge basket of wonderful fruit in our room as well. We were also provided a fantastic cake for our anniversary. The room was impeccably clean and maintained, even on the day of checkout. The bathroom had a shower/bath with plenty of hot water (takes a few minutes), shampoo, lotion, bath gel, toothbrush, shaving kit, robe and slippers. Bed was large and comfortable (beds on this side of the world tend to be harder in general). The bedding consists of a sheet, but the ac worked so well, I had to grab the blanket provided in the closet. The minibar was extremely reasonable as was the drinks in the lobby bar. I highly recommend front desk staff for all your needs. He was the most professional and efficient individual I have ever encountered. He met us each day with a handshake and the arrangements all sorted out. Whenever we needed anything he was there to assist. Our rafting/cycling trip and local sites tours were wonderful. I can't thank him enough for making our trip to Sri Lanka fabulous. I also want to thank the staff in general. Everyone was amazing.
