Exceptional”
A fantastic spot, and great budget accommodation. You will need to walk 5 minutes to your free car parking, but loading and unloading the car is fine if you park in the 5 mins loading bay outside in the mall area. It may not be quiet every night due to music outside, but it wasn’t unpleasant. We had the queen self contained room, and would choose it again!

Great place to stay. Staff are really friendly. Location is great. Close to Intercity bus stop, museum, park, coastal walkway, beach, shops and food. They have bikes for hire for only $5 -$10 for 1/2 day. Highly recommended.

Friendly hostel with good atmosphere ”
Had a great time here over New Year, hostel was perfect for mixing with other travellers and having a laugh and a beer. Great central location close to everything, staff are awesome and really make you feel welcome. For me it felt like a throwback to how hostels used to be. Not flashy but people integrating and talking to each other. Does get loud on weekends/bank holidays because it’s above a pub that turns into a banging nightclub so don’t expect a nice quiet weekend away. But other times it was pretty quiet.

Everything is great except the noise”
I think overall my stay experience was good. Rob was amazing, helpful and responsive. Sheets are clean. Bathrooms are clean. Kitchen are well equipped and clean. Only downside was the noise from the bars below is too much.

One of the most quiet backpacker stays I ever been to. Everything works out well. Food and supermarket are just nearby. Staff are friendly. Their local experiences can provide you some insights of how to spend your days in New Plymouth. You can rent a bicycle here if you need.

If you looking for good rest, then don't go there”
Pro: good location, close to i-site and intercity bus stop. Cro: too much noise from outside KTV and some long-term stay guests, they keep came in and came out untill 3AM. and the Kitchen just mess, dirty dishes left from last night. I only slept 4 hours, then left early morning, and canceled after 2 nights booking. I Have no ideal how they got such high score? unbelievable:(

I stayed here 3 times within 3 months. Ariki backpackers is located just in front of the New plymouth beach?Sea? Anyway, It has very nice location. and the staffs are fab. They are kind. There is a restaurant on the ground floor, name of HOME. They have a special menu everyday and night. I recommend you stay this backpackers and eat in this restaurant

Great place with a few quirks”
A terrific location in the heart of New Plymouth and close to everything; the coach interchange is nly 50 metres away. Comfy and clean. Super-helpful, staff. Plenty of nearby eating options. Good, lively pub right next door. A real bargain with a nice, friendly vibe. No parking at the hostel but the lot around the corner is free between 5pm and 9am; $2 an hour thereafter. Just a few little things to point out: The place has an odd arrangement whereby the ensuite showers for rooms 2 and 3 are separated only by flimsy shower curtains; it adds fresh meaning to showering with a friend! I wasn't over-concerned myself but it could give the unsuspecting or nervous a fright! Also, the TV remote took a lot of fiddling to switch between stations. There is only so much religious programming one can bear to watch!

Stayed at Ariki Backpackers from 23-26 Dec. Staff is very friendly as well as the rest of the peoples staying there. Near to lots of places of interests such as Puke Ariki, Len-Eye and Coastal Walk. Room are spacious and generally clean (we stayed in the Family room). However, it can be quite noisy as there is a bar located downstairs, which partied till 2am. No carpark around, so need to park at the nearest carpark near the Intercity bus-point.

Very pleasant, and despite not having a car we were able to see all the things that New Plymouth had to offer as the hotel was centrally located and close to bus stops.

This place really needs a bit of renovation work, as it looks quite worn. Even a new coat of paint on the walls would help a lot. The amount of posters and flyers on the walls in common areas and kitchen (and thus color and text absolutely everywhere) made me feel slightly uncomfortable. And the bunk beds were really squeaky as the metal ones unfortunately are. On the plus side, the location is really good (bus stop literally a minute's walk away), staff (including the dog) are really friendly, bathrooms and showers are nice and mattresses very comfortable. Having a fluffy clean towel is also an awesome bonus for a backpacker.
