Established in 1963, Atelefugne Hostel is simply antique and affordable. The hostel is located in Kera and is 7 kilometers away from the airport. It is composed of a local bar, a traditional restaurant, and 23 guestrooms. Atelefugne Hostel’s traditional restaurant proudly serves mouthwatering dishes such as the popular spicy Yebeg wot and Tegabino. The casual and friendly bar is where many local beers, local wines, and local gins are served. All rooms are clean and comfortable and decorated with traditional bedcovers, curtains, and local paintings. Most rooms share a bath and some are en-suite. Wi-Fi access is available in the bar, terrace, and rooms. Atelefugne Hostel is a work in progress, and they are constantly making improvements on the 50-year old property.

Good value, clean room with good food”
Clean airy room with a nice balcony, clean sheets and towels. Fresh good Ethiopian food and excellent hospitality and staff. 15 min walk to The AU. The lighting is dim at night and they need a curtain on the bathroom window. I will stay here any time. Really enjoyed my stay.
Reasanable place to saty”
The stay wasn't pleasant at all. The hotel still owe me money has I just stayed 6 pout pf the 13 days and I left without a receipt and without having my money reimbursed for the remaining 7 nights. However the hygiene for the level of this hotel was ok. Rooms are spacious with good conditions. The language is a huge obstacle for proper communication. No internet in the rooms
Water didn't work”
Water didn't work in my room. Even though, public toilet either. Therefore, I had to use my mineral water, and I had to carry a bucket in my room and had to have staff to draw water on it. Despite water problem, room price ware not so reasonable.
A place to sleep”
Unfortunately there was no water that night (I had a room with a private bathroom). Wifi didn't work for me. I felt safe and relaxed there. Even though it was a very basic room it was adequate size for one night. (I didn't try the food but they made me rate it, so I just gave it 3!).
A nice human experience. ”
It was a happy stay that I extended with a few nights. There's an abundance of helpful personnel. A temporary breakdown of the city water supply system was met with much energy and efficiency. The rooms are situated around a big open space (used as a car parking) which is embellished with palm trees and flowers. Like elsewhere in Addis, you can eat and drink here very well at extremely accessible prices. The weak point of the Atelefugne Hostel may be the location, though it's easy to catch passing minibuses to visit the more vibrant quarters of the city.
Excellent good value ”
A cheap mini bus ride away from the city, Atelefugne offers a clean good value stay in Addis.
one night not bad”
great value for money, but not located in the party area.
Nice for bed”
It was one night and I enjoyed sleeping there. Comparing to the money it was fantastic
Fulfills your basic needs, enjoy its simplicity!”
Atelefugne Hostel and, I cannot fathom why it is named a " hostel " when it is clearly a budget hotel offering great value. This HOTEL has replaced , for me, the Wanza Hotel in Sunshine, Addis which sadly, has been demolished. I arrived at 5:30 am on the first day and the night security was most helpful in allowing me to have somewhere to sleep until my room was ready later in the morning. The owners of the hotel are Ethiopians who have returned from the diaspora and whilst they are not invoved in the day to day management, they have delegated their standards through a friendly, competent manager. The staff are delightful and one or two can communicate in English but I , as a visitor, do not expect or demand that they should speak in English, that's part of the fun. Finally, the hotel offers good value and I hope the owners do not interpret this as "cheap". The key for their continuing success, is knowing and fulfilling the needs of visitors.
only for sleep”
Even though my stay was very short but every thing in this hotel was good except the bathrooms sharing. I didn't like it
Our first stay (arrival in Ethiopia) was okay- our room was ready when we arrived late at night and the bed was comfortable Our second stay (departure from Ethiopia)was disappointing- the room we reserved and paid for well in advance was occupied so we were 'downgraded' to a room which had just been offered to another guest even tho' it was only 11:00 am. The room smelled like backed-up sewer but otherwise was okay although there was no power or water until late that night.
Friendly owner & staff, tidy & clean, great value”
We were very pleased to find this quaint hotel. It was inexpensive but the rooms still have character. The rooms are very clean and the staff attentive and efficient. We stayed twice and the owner greeted us and engaged in conversation, as did the manager who was always helpful. Fast wifi was great and they had a popular and decent restaurant as well. Probably the only downside is that it is a $10-20 cab-ride there/back to the airport (15-20mins) which negates the budget cost of the hotel, but in my opinion it was still worth it for a safe, clean room.
More than amazing”
I spent there more than 3 wonderful days and nights.
Sencillo y suficiente”
