The Area of Venice where is located Ca Luminosa is called La Marinarezza. Between the Arsenale and the Napoleonics Gardens, This part of the city is still full of heritage as it is inhabited exclusively by Venetians and this is why it constitutes a witnessing of the historic, architectural and anthropologic value of Venice.
There is little knowledge of the buildings in the Corte Colonne of Castello that include also the ones of La Marinarezza as they are out of the touristic routes. This is a complex of about 200 houses built between the beginning and the middle of the 16th Century. The Serenissima Republic of Venice granted these apartments for free only to the sailors that, during their service, stand with their value and fidelity to the Republic. These assignments represented a milestone in the achievements of a sailor and not only an economic result. In the centuries to come it has been a certain point of pride to be granted a home by the Republic for generations of sailors and an important relation that the Republic had with the common citizens. This is why it still is nowadays the houses of The Marinarezza host Venetians that preserve the traditions, dialects and way of life of Venice in a way as such that you will not find in other parts of the city and surely not for such an extended area. The colour of the drying clothes, the loud speaking in dialects from window to window. This is what Venice, as a whole looked like, in the beginning of the last century, and here it is naturally preserved and lived.
