On the east coast of Thailand’s Koh Samui, Chaweng is the leader in island development. There are far more hotels in Chaweng than anywhere else on Samui, and guests enjoy some of the best luxury options in the country here.
Chaweng Beach is the best on the island, and it’s at the heart of the Samui’s commercial hub. It boasts white, powdery sand and excellent facilities. This area has seen rampant growth in the past 20 years, and visitors enjoy water sports, seaside dining and exciting evening entertainment. Horseback riding, miniature golf and bungee jumping are all operated on or near the beach.
Chaweng is also a popular medical tourism hub, and outpatients find there’s no better place to recover from a procedure than here on the beach. Popular facilities include Samui International Hospital, Bangkok Hospital Samui and Ko Samui Hospital.
After hours, the beachside party follows Soi Green Mango and its adjoining side streets. The scene varies from go-go clubs to more traditional bars and discos. Young travelers flock here, but there are definitely venues to suit travelers of all types.
Chaweng Beach Road is six kilometers long and it’s flanked by boutiques selling jewelry, beach attire and souvenirs. There are also a few traditional bazaars where shoppers are expected to haggle over prices.
Hotels near Chaweng Beach are more expensive than those on the mainland, but there are still plenty of options for backpackers and package tourists. Opposite this are several exclusive resorts with spa facilities and access to secluded stretches of the beach.
