My visit to Ankara was just to get married, so had to go to US Embassy and another one as well for my Fiance.
I can not say to much about the city only that they have really nice parks and some friendly people and of course great food.
Ankara cannot hold a candle to Istanbul so do not expect much at all. Ulus is cheap but a little sleazy, Kizilay is nicer to stay as more food options but limited real restaurants.
Other than the Anatolian Museum and a swift visit to the old Roman sights and maybe the old Citadel not really that much to do either. An enforced stay for me due to transport delay.
A must visit is the castle. They are doing up the old town within the castle walls, some good shopping for nic naks here - did find a lovely jeweller across from main gate who produced replica jewellery reasonable price so you don't need to wait for the gold Souke in Dubai .
A fascinating city: a whirl of sights and colours. "Musts" - Museum of Anatolian Civilisations: Ethnographic Museum: Citadel and old town.
Drawbacks - traffic, state of roads and pavements, air-pollution.
Basically an administration centre for the great country of Turkey. Besides that and probably business, there's nothing much to do, see or experience.
I didn't get to the Anatolian Civilization Museum which was ashame. The Anit Kabir and Sengul Hammam again, is worth the visit. Shopping seems quite good also in Ankara. But that still doesn't beat Istanbul.
