More about Bangka

Bangka is an island that makes up part of the Banka-Belitung Province in Indonesia. The land is sprinkled with a number of cities and is home to one million people. Both the provincial capital, Pangkal Pinang, and the regency capital, Sungai Liat, are located on this island. It only takes an hour-long flight from Jakarta to reach Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang.

A vast majority of travelers are drawn to the island of Bangka for beaches such as Parai Tenggiri Beach. Fine, white sands line turquoise waters and make for incredible views. Swimming, diving, snorkeling, and sun bathing are simple pleasures that can be enjoyed here. A number of offshore islands make for great day trips, and some can be reached by simply swimming to them. One of the islands off of Belitung has an 18-story Dutch lighthouse from 1889 that provides some exploration. Tukik Babel is located in a marina at the beach in the city of Sungai Liat, and this sea turtle conservation center is great for eco-tourists and wildlife lovers.
