One of the must visit places is the Cijin Island for its sites, have a seafood meal and shop for dried seafood such as scallops, ikan billis, etc.
interesting city to visit. will be great when extension to KRT is finished. Ferry ride to Cijin Is is a must
During C.N.Y. to come here, u might go to 蓮池潭, they do have many venders such as a night market to enjoy TW local culture.
I personally love walking at the Pier-2 Art Center. There are some exhibitions every month. It's a good place to know about arts.
Kaohsiung is not small city, have KMRT and city bus to all Taiwan. This is portland city but it quietly, slowlife city.
But it have everything.
Rather boring place. Only worthwhile attraction would be Cijin Island and maybe the chill-out at The British Consulate.
Very nice city, many attractive place can go by Metro, or take daily tour to outside around the city, also Kaoshiung people are very friendly and polite.
Kaohsiung is a rather under-rated tourist attraction and often pales in comparison to other destinations in Southern Taiwan such as Tainan and Kenting.
However, my personal thoughts is that Kaohsiung has a lot to offer especially in terms of shopping, sight-seeing and food. The shopping here is better than Taipei in terms of pricing. The food here, especially vegetarian food is very savoury. Must visit places in order of ranking: 1) "Fo Guang Shan" Buddhist Memorial Centre - irrespective of whether you are a Buddhist or not, this place is a must visit. 2) Lotus Lake together with the Dragon and Tiger Pavillons, Spring and Autumn Pavillion and Confucius Temple - personal tip is to rent a bike as you'll be able to cover more in a shorter time. 3)Formosa Boulevard MTR station to see the beautiful Dome of Light ceiling decor
This is the second largest city in Taiwan, after Taipei. As a city, it has a many things you can expect, such as: 1.
Shopping - you can the shopping mall near San Duo commercial zone (三多商圈) where there a a number of big supermarket or go to dream mall (統一夢時代). 2. Night markets 3. Love river If you have more time and more adventurous, rent a taxi for a day (or 1/2 day) and they can bring you to more exciting places to explore various theme park or cultural sites.
Shopping - Dream Mall & Hankyu at R6 MRT stop where free bus shuttle is available - Hanshin Arena Shopping which could be followed by visit to Rueifong night market Night Markets - Don't miss Liouhe where plenty of seafood is available
It is a mdium size city and with sufficient size for various activities within reach by MTR, bus or on foot.
You will be so relax in such a nice place. People are not hurry and you can enjoy good food with a reasonable price.
One disappointing thing about Kaohsiung is there is very little information in English which makes getting to attractions very difficult if you need to get off the train then onto a bus.
We tried to see some temples got as far as the train station MRT and from there no one could help including the information center and the bus drivers all said we don;t go there. A major attraction outside Kaohsiung (Lotus Lake area) and no-one new. We even had someone write this down in Chinese to help us. After 2 hours we gave it up and went back to the hotel very disappointed our day was wasted due to lack of information and also been given incorrect information. Take your own info in English as there is none here.
It's a lot easier to navigate that Taipei as they only have 2 MRT lines. There were some touts insisting you go to Kenting at the Zuoying High Speed Rail Station so try to avoid spending too much time within that station.
Otherwise, food was at least 20% cheaper and the vegetables fresher than Taipei. Hotels are cheap. You can stay 2 nights at Kaohsiung and only 1 night at Taipei, assuming you stay 4 or 5 stars.
I've been to Kaohsiung twice to catch up with my friend. I always find the city so laid back and relaxing.
I really like this city. I didn't go to many places so I can't comment. There are definitely places to go so do your research. I will be returning next year so i will spend a few nights in Kaohsiung to explore the city properly and the areas around Kaohsiung e.g. KENTING.
nothing much at Kaohsiung city just shopping mall & night market. Have to go to sizihwan, fisherman wharf, love river, kenting beach.
A seaside city with the largetst port in Taiwan. The city didn't have many skyscrapers but good sea and port view from the hill.
Kaohsiung is a safe city where one can travel on his/her own. With the metro, one can reach the various places of interests easily.
night-market is must go - so many clothing, handbag, causal shoes, skin care product, food & drinks seafood is must eat - so cheap but fresh & yummy subway is easy to go
Koahsiung has so much to offer. It has all the usual city attractions like department stores, restaurants, museums etc, and also lots of options for nature enthusiast to enjoy, like the beach, the mountains and the lakes.
After spending 3 nights in Taipei, I found Kaohsiung very relaxing. It was rely nice to walk along riverside, sit down have something to bite and drink.
City tour very interesting and there is a lovely island just outside the city.
Good place to stay in with its history and scenic attractions. Further trip to the surrounding areas and neighbour cities is recommended.
local people are very kind, welcome a lot of quality food choices you would like to know more about their culture you will like this place, quite, clean, nice weather but not convience to get money exchange, not at all
Tips: - Buy yourself a one-day or two-day pass for MRT. - Going to Zuoying and Qiaotou by train is cheaper than MRT, but mind the frequency of local train.
Places to visit: - Former Kaohsiung Port Station, Sizihwan - Former British Consulate, Sizihwan - Qijin - Shinkuchan Shopping Area, near MRT Central Park Station - Sanduo Shopping District - MRT Formosa Boulevard Station and Liuhe Night Market - "Love River" - Lotus Pond, Zuoying - Ruifeng Night Market, Zuoying - Qiaotou Sugar Refinery
Our flight arriving at Kaohsiung International Airport hence we decided to take a night stay over at Kaohsiung.
Overall it is a pleasant stay over as the public transport very convenient and the culture is pretty attractive. MRT is just a few step away to major attraction. Another option = Taxi, which just a hand-wave away. Hotel are everywhere and the price offered is affordable and a lot variety. Went to LiuHe night market and love the papaya-milk & seafood porridge!
Nice city, I love it, the people in Kaosiung are much nicer than people in the North. They love to help.
people here are nice to tourists and they are always willing to tell you what to eat and places worth to pay a visit.
A place where you can visit for the night markets! In the morning, not much stuff to do actually. But the night markets here are really good!
If taking a direct flight into Kaohsiung, best to travel by train to Tainan for a day tour. Followed by train down to the south and stay at Kenting.
In Kaohsiung, the best thing to do is to visit the two nightmarket, one being the Liuhe night market and the other Ruifeng nightmarket. Cijin island is a 11km long island which serve cheap seafood. Renting a bicycle or a e-bike will be highly recommended and easier to tour the island.
