It's a religious and historical city. If you like these, you must pay a visit to Lhasa. PS. Please be reminded to Altitude sickness.
Walking around Barkhor with the tibetan pilgrims is one of the best things I did in my life. I could do it for days.
Lhasa is a very attractive city, as Tibet is the roof of the world, it arouses people to come and experience its nature and people.
Unfortunately the public toilets all over Tibet are very dirty and not tourists friendly.
Lhasa is a buzzing city where hundreds of Tibetan pilgrims come every day to walk around the main temples ,prostrating in front of the statues representing the Buddha.
Some of the pilgrims come from various parts of the Tibetan regions and the array of traditional costumes add a unique note of color to the already fascinating display. Some of the streets are quite intricate and narrow and it feels like going back in time.
Lhasa is the main city of Tibet. Among all cities in Tibet, it has the most developed. Main attractions of course is Potala Palace and the many historical monasteries around Lhasa area.
Security is pretty tight and there are many checkpoints in the old city areas. Well, good point is that at least it is pretty safe to walk around in the day for tourists. Food wise I would find the cuisine acceptable, main cuisines are Tibetan, Nepalese and Chinese (Szechuan). All itineraries of Tibet will start in Lhasa where travellers from lower altitudes would spend some time acclimatising to the higher altitudes. Shopping are mostly concentrated in the old city quarters which is currently undergoing facelift of the old buildings there.
wonderful city! Planing to visit in another time next year! Pro: terrific culture background, most of sites are priceless.
If you like history and art, you would definaly fall in love with the city. Streats are clean and people are highly educated. No need to worry about your safety(before I went, I really worry about safty issue. That's all because the news! They only shows the bad side of the world!). Cons: be carefull about the high sea level symdrome. Small cold may cause really serious problem. Most of the people here are friendly and kind. Prepare to break some changes (like one cent in Chinese currency.) some traveler may travel from really long way. Small changes will help them to get through. Some tickets are kinda pricy, but I think most of them are worth. One more thing. If you really want to get to the Facebook or YouTube...please at lease try to google them. For iPhone, it's simple and easy, just download from App Store..get sick and tired teach people how to do it...just google VPN.lol....
