We really loved this small, kind city. An absolute must do is the free city walking tour, it is 100% worth it and we learnt so much more than you can by just looking at a statue or a church.
It makes the city even better to explore afterwards. The only thing that could have been better: the weather. Avoid visiting during a rainy winter if you want an even better experience and a chance to go hiking nearby.
The old town is fascinating and attractive with interesting museums and a fort on top of a high that gives great views of much of Slovenia.
But Ljubliana isn´t a museum as it is a university town and the students give it a vibrant edge with art and music prominent. The nightlife too is worth going thjere for alone.
A very relaxing and interesting place. A mix of buildings - some very grand. The best way to describe Ljubljana is "shabbily charming".
Has a great market, so many cafes and interesting streets. You could probably see the Old Town in a day and a half but Ljubljana is very easy place to branch out for the day to places like Lake Bled, the Skocjan Caves and other attractions.
This city was a surprise. It is modern, lot's of facilities, historical, very friendly to tourists and so beautiful.
This is a wonderful city, with the best collection of museum and art galleries that I have seen in such a small city.
It is easy to get around, it is clean, you can get by in English in many of the places tourists visit, and people are helpful. There are too many attractions to name but: do a city tour (walking, 1 hour), a boat trip (1 hour takes you up and back the central part of the river and is cool and relaxing), go up to the castle in the furnicular and walk down, and then see as many of the museums and art galleries as you can. If you are a wheelchair-user it isn't that easy, you'd need to take a friend as many of the lifts for disabled people are up some steps! Buy the Ljubljana card when you stay, it gives you free access to more things than you can possibly see, plus the city tour, boat tour, and all city transport.
The old town is lovely, and there are nice restaurants on the river bank, good atmosphere with the live music.
