More about Louisville (KY)

In the American state of Kentucky, Louisville is the largest city with a population near one and a quarter million. It is historically known as the Gateway to the South and features a mix of Midwestern and Southern confluences. Louisville boasts great architecture, a friendly and festive culture, and tasty cuisine. Reaching this destination is easy thanks to Louisville International Airport.

Throughout the city and throughout the year, there is much to see and do in Louisville. The parks found here were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the man said to be the father of American landscape architecture. Cherokee Park, Iroquois Park, and Shawnee Park are considered the flagship parks and his greatest achievements. A number of other parks make up the city’s Emerald Necklace and provide green escapes with incredible city views and landscaped lawns and gardens. Within Old Louisville is an architectural treasure trove, being the third largest National Preservation District and the largest Victorian district in the United States. If you are looking for something more indoors, there are several museums to visit, and there also several areas for shopping like the Highlands, Clifton/Franfurt Avenue, and Nulu. Planning your trip to coincide with the Kentucky Derby Festival will be incredibly rewarding, complete with hot air balloon races, one of the world’s largest air and firework shows, parades, and more.

Be sure to check out the interactive map of Louisville for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
