The best restaurants are on the other side of the main square from the La Residence Hotel. Visit the 'Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière' on the hill but take the metro or cable car to the top and walk down, not walk up as we did, it's a hard climb.
I came to Lyon for its reputation as a gastronomy must stop over. It did not disappoint. My only advice is not to travel during August as most museums and public facilities are either under maintanence or closed for summer vacation.
Some restaurants weren't even open for the whole week we were there
Needs bigger rubbish bins, more free public toilets, quite a nightmare finding one and restaurants not friendly about it even if you offer to pay! Rubbish bins out of monument oo historical buildings as does not look good on pictures.
The city stinks sewage in many places....
Try to catch a movie at the CNP Bellcour if you have time, take the funicular to see the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière; take a walk down the rhone-saone river, and dont' forget to try the bouchons scattered across the city.
Lyon is the second biggest city in France. Rather unknown compared to the hotspots such as Paris or Nice, but it is completely worth visiting.
You can experience a french town that is not so crowded and full of tourists like Paris. It consists of both the old town and the new, which makes it a fascinating place to travel. Recommended to visit during the warm months.
best thing to do in Lyon is to walk around the city the daytime exploring the streets and buildings and then repeat that again in the night.
you will have a different experience altogether and let yourself enjoy the city life, food, culture and of course do some shopping as well.
Lyon is a big city, with 3 rather distinct parts in terms of for various tourism pursuits - ie. Shopping, cultural or food centric.
Lyon is a wonderful city to visit. It is not as busy as Paris so it is a great place to unwind and take it easy.
Visit the roman ruins or the art museums. Lyon is also famous for it's food and gourmet delights so don't bypass trying their many restaurants. Try the Le Val d'Isere for some local Lyon flavours (bouchon style food) or for a more fancy dinner go to L'Archange. Brilliant ambience, friendly waiter (that speaks good English) and fantastic food!
Try the local cuisine in a "bouchon lyonnais. Visit la fourviere, le parc de la tete d'or, la place bellecour.
Bars on the boats along the river rhone during night time. The weather in lyon may not be ideal most of the days during winter but when the sun is out, the city is amazingly beautiful as it is during the night. Best time is hence summer. If you are around during december, look out for the la fete des lumieres (festival of lights) and great time to be having vin chaud (hot wine) with a couple of friends while you enjoy the light animations on the streets.
It is a old city but the view is quite good. It is very peaceful and relaxed. People look very friendly.
And there are some good place around Lyon such as Annecy.
A much bigger city than some others that i have been to. Many more places to visit and explore in Lyon.
try the michelin restaurant here at Lyon..it is cheaper here compared to Paris and the food is on Par.
